There would be a bunch of sketches as well but, alas, my scanner ist still kaput.

I really like them. Especially the last one.

I adore your style/way of drawing. The loose-ish lines really appeal to me, and bring some personality to the drawings :) I also dig that you were able to draw that many emotions :thumb:

Soz fo' double post...is neccesary to be noticesd

FuRuBa's Kagura Sohma! Birthday present for a friend, I need to get it finished for thursday. I have to say, I am particularly excited to see how her necklace turns out.

It was originally going to have Tohru in as well, but she just looked awkward with the way i'd placed Kagura.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k274/scrumpleberry/fdfdf.jpg

I'll put the finished version up on Thursday

*must finish by Thursday...must finish by Thursday!!!*

I FIXED MY SCANNER AFTER LIKE 2 YEARS!

Result? Freaking. MASSIVE. Sketchdump.

MASSIVE. This is only part 1.

Sorry about my writing, the text tool in PSP is officially retarded and I h8 it 4eva. I tried doing the introductory bit with it and spent about 15 minutes trying to get it right before I was like "SCRU DAT." Seriously, can anyone tell me why the hell they made it so useless?

Lookie here (http://scrumpleberry.deviantart.com/art/Massive-Sketchdump-pt-1-93928112), photobucket has filesize limits ;)

>>> Not bad, I used to paint with watercolor pencils before I got the tablet..
As for the drawings, if you are aiming for a cartoonish style, then you are making a great job.
If you want to go for a more realistic style then you should try drawing some human anatomy.

I have to say first that your style is very unique and it makes your art really pop out. I love the first one, her dress is just gorgeous, but she looks a bit too thin.

For the second, well the idea behind her design looks like a great concept, her head and hair are just too big for her body to support. So you might want to either shrink her head or enlarge the rest of her body, probably a mixture of both. Once that is done she will look absolutely stunning. :D

scrumpleberry
01-16-2009, 09:30 PM
The first is a model x) So yeah, she's a bit of a coathanger. And the second one was meant to be sort of super-deformed :o but if she still looks a bit weird I can thicken up the rest of the body next time.

Rantz
01-16-2009, 09:42 PM
Okay, here is my attempt at constructive criticism for your last post, although I've already told you I'm not very good at it. xD

The first girl has a very nice outfit and hairdo, but her pose and expression are both sort of uninteresting. She's not really doing anything, and it makes the picture a bit dull to look at, which leads me to the second girl:

This one, on the other hand, has a more dynamic pose. Her hair gives the picture gravity and pull and clearly defines one main point of interest, the face. Her face, however, is a bit bland. The expression tells no tales, so to say. The differently coloured eyes give back some visual interest to the face, though. I love how you coloured this piece! The hair ornaments and overall quirky drawing style are great, too.

Thanks to everyone who's posted! I really really appreciate all of this, so thank you very much

Rantz, I tried to make the second look kind of, I dunno, apathetic and tired? Maybe I didn't push it enough. I'll keep that in mind.

I went through your Dev Art there to look at your gallery. I'll give a go at analzising your stuff.

Hilda; This is a great piece of work. I love the expression on her face. Its like shes silently content about something. That to me has to be one of your best assets. You can sketch faces with the ability of leaving a lingering emotion. The colours complement each other perfectly. The thing above her head is ace, the dress immaculate, and likewise hair. The whole package is, to put it simply, great.

Theres a couple of other ones there that are excellent also. I'm happy that you did Boudica & another one in watercolour pencils. If theres a medium that suits your flowing style, then watercolour pencils (& pen) are it IMO. It gives them life.

You know... a lot of your drawings look like something you'd find in a fashion designers sketch book.

Thanks! I'd love to be a fashion designer, and yeah fashion figures are so much fun to draw, they're wonderful.
You should really look into that. Your drawing style suits it too.

Anyways... Your style is very distinctive, while still being great. That's hard to do. Its clear that there is a stellar progression in your ability since you started posting here. Its more consistant. I remember when you did Maria a while back and just lovin' it. However, some aspects of your work tended to be slightly off in places. Now your drawings are smoother, also the proportion and everything is spot on. But theres always room for improvement. I'm guessing you put in an effort to work on this. Keep up the good work, i'll be checking back here! :monster:

SD3 Angela in ms paint: to practise my patience, ms painting, scrupulous attention to detailing and colour coordinating, also because my OC 4.5 demo ran out and I am not yet rich enough to buy the full thing, also because Psy accused me of drawing girls with skinny legs (THEY ARE MODELS OKAY) and even though Angela looks skinny in her character art I always imagine her to be packing it rather in the behind :O so yeah there we go. also it is small because photobucket >( and i forgot to customise the options

edit: oh yes and before my demo died i did some more to the sucky emmy picture and i had a tiny bit of relm done xDD

I didn't know a spoiler tag could hold so much awesome. your style is fantastic. Grandia pic is magical and I think the internet would break from awesomeness was colored.

only issues I have is that Tonks only has half a neck D: But other than that she is stunning.

Is the Castle pic based on the book or the movie?

scrumpleberry
06-24-2009, 10:37 PM
Thanks everyone, you're all far far too kind and lovely! Working on 6 more things, I'll post when finished.

Qwert: yes her neck is weird, I didn't notice until I'd sent it to Rye. I cropped out half of the weirdness actually xD

It's a mix. I cannot imagine a ginge Sophie, or one with lots of hair, so this one has the short hair of the movie and has either very very dark brown hair or very metallic silver. Also Heen is there because he's brilliant and I love his little sticky legs and feet. Also, Sophie isn't wearing the film dress because it's terrible (Howl would never let her wear it tbh), and she doesn't have the film face because Miyazaki's girls, while fabulous, all have really boring faces.

This (http://taka0801.deviantart.com/art/Howl-and-Sophie-88114064) is the only believable ginge Sophie I've seen. I'll give you this (http://littlecrow.deviantart.com/art/Howl-s-Moving-Castle-WIP-67326659) as well, because it's fucking awesome.

Here is something I did ages ago, more watercolour phail to put you on until the next piece (lmaozers) also what the hell way to totally lose my original face designs and turn her into some sort of plastic trollhag. I would fix it but cba to face her again and then rescan her. Also I am acutely aware of all the hideous errors present because it was rather a few months ago, so thx but don't bother yourself with anatomical critique if any comes to mind.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k274/scrumpleberry/terra.jpg

here is a recent Terra. Tried to evoke some sort of emotive feeling or atmosphere or wildness or ethereal wondrousness with that - failyard >Z

What's that? You'd simply love to hear my emo blargh incompetence rant? Well here you go then!

I really want to get good at watercolours. I just don't think anything works for me apart from pen or pencil and it's so frustrating. I love using OC and and all that jazz but the end product is always so awful when I try to do something properly. It feels so boring and clunky. I can't take anything past doodles and simple lining without killing it.

Well, none of this will matter once I've figured out how to steal people's talent. Dynast, Slade, Rocket - you're first on the list. Bewear >)

Have a lot of digital stuff in the works. Also, I need to do less fnarts - it's not that I don't have any ideas, I just never follow through with them because I get sick of them. Fnarts you have a template which is lovely and sort of dissapates most of my cba.
