Well, the release date on the new Etrian Odyssey is June 17, but all the local Gamestops in my area tell me it's shipping to them tomorrow. I don't know about you all, but I'm very excited.

I have a nice long flight to kill time on, come Tuesday, and this release couldn't be more perfectly timed for me. I still think that the original Etrian Odyssey is one of the greatest games the DS has to offer.

Anyone else psyched for this?

I've never heard of either of these games before. I just checked out Etrian Odyssey on Wikipedia and the game style sounds very interesting. I'm starting to move towards portable gaming these days and these games look like they can be very engrossing. I'll have to look into picking them up.

I'm still on 1. I've been playing it on and off for months and I've barely made it to the second floor.

I will dust my DS off for this.

Yeah, a lot of people (self included) haven't even finished the first game :P It's pretty hardcore. This video sums up my--and I'd imagine many people's--experience extremely well. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM5MMqNgUzM)

Personally, it's not my style. But it's ok, Summon Night was my Atlus DS game for the month.

The fact that IOSYS made a song about this game makes me want to buy it.

I, personally, could not get enough of the original. I beat it pretty early on and raised many extra characters thereafter, just for the fun of it.

I found the difficulty to be very refreshing. It was nice to play a modern RPG that was developed with a comprehension and invocation of old-school gaming mechanisms that are too often regarded as dead or outdated.

My friend got the first one and it looks really good. I like the artstyle. He gave it too me for a little while and instead of doing anything productive. I the floor he was on very annoying and stuck monsters everywhere. Now I feel bad for doing that after watching that video xD

I never played the first one, but I want to give this one a go.

What in the smurf eating, cabbage crushing, nipple twisting, horse swaddling, finger twisting, nail biting, marsh gassing, flower gagging bloody buggering hell is an FOE!??!?!?

F.O.E stands for Foedus Obrepit Errabundus, which is latin for "the vile, wandering one sneaks up". I almost knew that from memory, just had to Google to check the spelling.

Basically, incredible ridiculous and often cute monsters that can KILL YOU IN ONE HIT if you are not prepared. Which you most likely will not be the first few times you encounter it.

I liked the style of the game and how everything was put together, but I don't really want to play it :P It had bonus points for having Trauma Center's Dr. Hoffman in it. I think Etrian 2 features Dr. Stiles from Trauma Center as well.

The official website (http://www.atlus.com/etrian2/) has some comics exploring the new classes and other game elements. Did it for the first game (http://www.atlus.com/etrian/) too.

I've pre-ordered it, and I'm patiently awaiting it's arrival any day now.

I imagine it will suck up all my free time for the next few months, as the first one did. I'm just hoping the gameplay has been freshened up enough to keep it interesting, considering it's barely been a year since the original EO was released, I'm a little concerned it's just going to follow the exact same formula as its predecessor, which would lower the enjoyment factor of the game for me.

The main addition I'm looking forward to are the few new Classes to choose from, and the improved difficulty as from what I've heard there'll be no Immunize or Defender to rely on anymore, plus FOEs give no Exp, and Bosses hit harder and can cause more status ailments than any in the previous version, so it will most likely require a more tactical and thoughtful approach in order to safely progress, all the better IMO.

What in the smurf eating, cabbage crushing, nipple twisting, horse swaddling, finger twisting, nail biting, marsh gassing, flower gagging bloody buggering hell is an FOE!??!?!?FOEs are enemies you can fight from B2F downwards. Their basically mini-bosses and should be avoided unless your party is fully prepared for them as their much stronger and hit alot harder than any of the monsters you'll fight during random encounters.

FOEs are also the only enemies along with bosses that are visible on screen, so you can decide if you want to fight them or not.

Even though it kept saying FOE on screen, I thought they were singing "it's froggy" instead of "it's FOE".

There are Trauma Center characters in this too?!

Damn it JKTrix, now I HAVE to buy it. ;-;

I knew they were saying F-O-E; I enjoyed imagining they were saying "It's Froggy". :p Of course, it really would have been great had they shown a frog on the screen for a FOE.

This thread has made me very curious to try out the original Etrian Odyssey but you can't get it anywhere besides eBay. I checked out all the local game stores over lunch today with no luck.

Sometimes you can get lucky with a used copy in Gamestop. Keep checking, I'm sure something will turn up.

Just got this game earlier today and wow it's awesome! Now to rub in the face of my friend and let him draw all over my map. I also get the F.O.E. song now. Totally shouldn't have poked that lizard with my sword. :D

I'm a bit tight on money at the moment
my one game of the month is FFTA2, plus I want the summon night DS game more, and I never finished the first Etrian Odyssey.

I made it to the sixth floor finally. I don't know what I did, but my Traubadour hits harder than my Protector. Even still, this game is hard. The F.O.E.s don't show up on the map anymore!

I hear that the game pretty much assumes you've beaten the first game, so this one basically starts as 'hard mode' compared to Etrian 1.
