What kind of arcade games do you like? I prefer shmups and 2D fighters myself, though I also like games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong too.

Recently I went on a downloading rampage for my MAME folder and now I have plenty to keep me busy. However, none of them match up to the CAVE shmups Necronopticous sent me (DoDonPachi, ESP Ra.De., Guwange, Progear, etc.)...

Anyway, what are your favorite arcade/arcade-style games, and what would you recommend for someone (me) looking to expand their collection? :D

2D fighters for the win. For a good time, pretty much all of the Capcom vs. games are a good bet. Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter... I don't know if there are any more. xP

EDIT: I really need to start logging out. xD

Capcom vs SNK 2 is the game i play competitively so i would say thats my favorite game by far. If an arcade doesnt have that its kinda of a let down for me since i really love that game.

Other than that Guilty Gear series and most 2-D fighters are a hit for me, as well as shumps as i grew up with them...i dont know why there arent more of these. Other than that i would just watch people play DDR, thats pretty exciting. ^^ Time Crisis is also pretty exciting.

Side-scrolling beat-'em-ups forever. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, all that jazz.

2D Fighters and games like Metal Slug for the win. Although, I used to love playing random NBA games as well. And the Hyper Bishi Bashi championship game is the best arcade game ever

Fighting games, I like 2-D more but 3-D fighters are fun too. Especially side stepping away from attacks and annoying a stranger xD.

I dunno what they're called, but games like House of the Dead and Area 51.

Light gun games. Which yeah are really awesome, though not many come out these days that have much personality to them. Also, the new ones are usually the most expensive ones to play.

DDR is pretty fun in an arcade environment, too.

I like going to the arcade but i dont have the money/time/freinds to do so. Most of my freinds arent arcade people.

I like the driving games with a proper gear shift. I dont have names though.

Also Pump it Up > DDR

Can't argue with a bit of House of the Dead or Time Crisis. I used to quite like some of the old Star Wars arcade games. The podracing one was pretty good, as was that one where you could pick between a film and play out a scenario from that film. I do like going to the arcade with some friends, even if it is pricey.

What the heck is a shmup. Sounds like an insult. Crazy kids and your new fangled lingo

Most fun series of beat 'em up games was Ninja Turtles in the arcade

I've spent a lot of money on fighters, especially Virtua Fighter and Soul Blade. The Vs Street Fighter series was good too

Last racing game I played at an arcade was probably Cruisin World

And light gun games are a blast, but there were never many to choose from. I played a newer Time Crisis game last year at some arcade about an hour away from where I live. We probably spent like ten bucks on that between me and my buddy

Try and pronounce shmup out loud and you'll probably guess what it means :P

Shmup is an insulting term that should only be used when you wish to denigrate the great genre of shoot-'em-ups.

2D fighters. I will go into an arcade and if there are no 2D fighters around I usually just leave.:p Thats why Im glad for the selection at my local arcade. (Street fighter III, Melty Blood, Capcom vs. SNK 2, SNK vs. Capcom.) I have wasted many quarters there. :choc2:
