Uh-um no! We're not talking about it! Well we are but...

Okay. I have an English project I need to do. But I think this is fit for this place.

I'm asking you this:

"What songs would fit Romeo and Juliet?"

And it can't be an overall thing. It has to be a particular scene.

So please, state your song, your scene and your reason!

Watch the movie and pay attention to which songs are being played when. That should do the trick.

I would do that but I'm not allowed to copy any of the movie songs... which suck. BUT I will give it a try and if my english teacher doesn't like it... well that's why I made this thread I guess. For a back-up plan.

It's a good idea. Thanks.

There's a song from the original by Nino Rota. I think it's called A Time For Us (or the Love Theme), which is pretty much awesome. I think it's used in tomb, but not entirely sure (it's been a long time since I saw it).

I've not really got any other suggestions - I just wanted to post because I really like that song. :)

I suppose I could be really obvious and dense and suggest Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits and also Sergei Prokofiev's ballet/orchestral suites of Romeo and Juliet. :p

Otherwise, I suppose I could suggest some general songs about love. Without You by Harry Nilsson might be one, referring specifically to the ending. And I suppose, because it just happens to have come on WinAmp as I'm typing this, Girl Like You by Edwyn Collins might work for when they first meet. I'm terrible at this sort of thing though xD

Coincidentally I had this exact same assignment a few weeks ago. My soundtrack consisted of Uematsu, some stuff from Chrono Trigger, some stuff from Neon Genesis Evangelion, and a bit of Dream Theater. I went for how the song fit musically, rather than lyrically.

There's a scene in the play, after Tybalt's death, where Lady Capulet requests her musicians to play Heart's Ease. I guess she wanted a mood-lift, since Heart's Ease is a lovely English dance tune. That music would work well for the ball scene - it's sedate, but upbeat. Good balance of formal and informal mood. Since it's a period tune, and expressly mentioned in the play, it'd be a good choice.

If you want an FF tone to things, then Aerith's Theme would work well for Juliet's discovery of Romeo's body and her death.

If you're looking for something to punctuate the duel between Tybalt and Romeo, then Carl Orff's Estuans Interius (from Carmina Burana no. 1) would fit nicely - the lyrics and rhythm would be perfect.

"I Will Follow You into the Dark," by Death Cab for Cutie would be good for the end because it's all "OMG u ttly don't have to die alone k?."

Muse's "Invincible" is pretty good for the scene where's all "swear not by the moon". Well, I'm sure there are better songs for that scene, but Muse belongs in every playlist ever.

Yeahh, I was pretty surprised it took so long for it to be posted.

I used to listen to the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack all the time. Absolutely loved it. I think that piano music would suit Romeo and Juliet. Oh I would sugest this but it might be a bit too different. Shigeru Umebayashi - Lovers (Title Song) (http://youtube.com/watch?v=WRWo8848cSU)

I can see a lot of Japanese songs here. Don't worry, I AM japanese (half)- I listen to songs like that from time to time.

HOWEVER I don't know to what extend my English teacher will be checking 'for originality' shall we out it nicely. Here are some rules, although for the sake of this thread you can chuck it in anyway because it can be interesting.

1) HAS to have lyrics. The music does matter but I need to look at songs as poems.

2) And apparently I can't just nick them from some soundtrack or the movies and add a lot of detail to the meaning and reason of the song.

3) I'm pretty darn sure foreign songs are a bit complicated when it comes to marking. So try to cross that out a little.

Thank you for your help so far every one. I really appreciate it!

As mentioned before, I Will Follow You Into The Dark would fit pretty well.
