I just want to find out what kind of people check out the ff8 forum pretty often. If you see this thread and don't mind or like to play ff8, please respond. This can be as simple as a "." or an essay on the matter.

If you hate ff8 or have not seen this thread, then please do not reply. Any negative posts will be taken as a nonreply because they will be deleted 8)

I like FFVIII, but I always find that my enjoyment drops after the first two discs. Put simply, I really enjoyed the storyline around Garden and fighting the evil Sorceress who has taken over another country. While there was the "oh man we were all at school together" twist that I don't like, I find that it's probably less annoying than some of the twists on the final two discs are. Never found the characters that special. Music is fantastic and - I must admit - when I first played it at about 11 or 12, I did find it pretty cool, but less so now. Probably one of my least favourite entries in the series, but still a very good game.

I don't really like FFVIII but I don't really hate it either. I have no problem playing it again to pass the time though. I honestly just come here for the conspiracy threads because... well that's all that exists here. Forum wise, that's really the only thing it has to offer because overall FFVIII seems to present the .. uhh.. least lacking of making sense out of all the games, therefore being the most able to make threads based off completely nonsense and speculation.

Honestly though, the threads about the various theories make me wanna play the game less, because I can't take it seriously.

That's my thoughts on FFVIII and the FFVIII forum.

I love the game, even though I may criticise some aspects of it now and then. It's a neat story with an interesting cast of characters, and some fun challenges and innovative gameplay - what more could one want?

well... I like FF8. I like triple triad. I like junctioning. I like the gameplay. I HATE THE STORY! I really dont like the love part of the story line or the part where thay say "the gfs are making us forget everything". This game would have been very good if they would have just put a good story in it.

FFVIII is my favorite in the regular FF series (next only to FFT). I love almost everything about the game: the heroes, the villains, the monsters, the world design, GFs, junctioning, and Triple Triad. I have minor issues with the plot and the SeeD ranking system.

Final fantasy VIII is alright. It's lacking in some areas like the battle system and story, but I love the characters and the soundtrack.

Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite from the PSX generation, and ranks very high in my arrangement of my favorites. The junction system is well thought-out, and not as cumbersome as lazy people make it out to be. I loved the story; I've seen it analyzed more than any other Final Fantasy.

It frustrates me VII fanboys say "VIII sucks junctioning is too hard, why isn't Cloud in it kissing Sephiroth, wah wah wah." I hated VII for the longest time, then I made myself sit through it. I came to realize that "hey, it's not that bad." It still isn't my favorite (I rank it second worst), but it's not a bad game, and I could definitely see playing it again in the short future.

Maybe when I'm done playing through VIII again. :p

I think VIII had elements that people either loved or hated. I enjoyed the battle system and triple triad. I also enjoyed the story, while conceding that there are areas where it could be improved.

Some of the conspiracy theories here are absolutely awesome. How people can think of something so obscure based on one or two lines is amazing.

I love FFVIII--in large part because of what I felt was a cohesive, well-developed world that, even discounting the main characters, was interesting. Most, if not all of the locations in the world had stories of their own, and had hooks and scenes that shows that there was mroe to them than simply a place for Squall and company to visit. It had history, and it showed.

VIII was my introduction to the FF series, and even after playing all the other titles it's still my personal favourite, although the flaws of the game have become more apparent with each playthrough.

The main plus points for me are the graphics, music, cutscenes, and triple triad. The story for the most part is absorbing, although the plot twists did take awhile to accept. The junctioning system was mostly enjoyable too, but at times it can get cumbersome, especially when switching between different characters. I also think the rest of the playable characters should have been developed much more, especially Quistis who after the first few hours of the game is barely involved in any meaningful way again. Considering there was only six to choose from in the first place, it was a little lazy from the writers to neglect them so much.

The R=U and other conspiracy theories are fun to read as well, I like the fact that VIII has so many hardcore fans who think so deeply about the plot to come up with these theories.

I thought it was a great game, story, gameplay, graphics and music wise.

I check out the forum b/c every now and then a decent discussion thread gets started and other than that there's plenty of entertaining light-hearted threads to pass the time, too.

I lost my FFVIII. But I'm still gonna play it. I still haven't completed a perfect game yet.(does not include PocketStation available only items)

Ouch!

I think FFVIII features one of the most poorly developed plots and casts of characters in the series.

I also think it has a pretty damn spiffin' battle system as well as some rockin' mini-games (specifically the Triple Triad). The only FF title I've replayed more than FFVIII is FFIX. It's one of the few games I've ever played where the gameplay makes up for its other faults.

FFVIII is my favorite out of them all and also the first FF I ever played and bought. I liked the characters more than the characters from other games and I liked the storyline and battle system more as well. The only thing that can be done to improve it is if it was remade with voice acting. That would be soooooo cool.

FF8 was my first FF and still remains one of my all time favorites to this day. Junctioning, Triple Triad, the music, and the GFs were all awesome. The battle system is a nice refreshment from the usual MP and equipment setups. I loved the GF abilities and the fact that they were more of a tool to make your characters stronger than weapons to be used in battle. It was just the general uniqueness of FF8 compared to the other games in the series that made me enjoy it so much.

I know that VIII isn't known to be the best game in the series, but (sigh)...I love the game. This is also the board I watch over the most on EoFF.

Disc four scares me, though. Ultimecia's castle gives me the chills.

*shrug* i had difficulty with the junctioning.. probably took me half and hour to plan for a difficult boss fight, then i wouldn't bother touching it till i get KO'ed along the way..

But what i do rmb while i was at it.. was the Triple Triad.. probably wasted half my gametime playing that xD

I couldent agree more. Theres somthing about FFVIII's atmosphere that really "feels right" to me.

FFVIII is IMO the most well thought out FF of all time, and the most well thought out game of all time again IMO. FF6 was also extremly well thought out and is my second favorite.

It took a tremendous amount of thought to create a story as that of FFVIII. It really makes you think. FFVIII is my all time favorite period and is simply a work of art

I loved the game. I played it when it first came out, and I was one of the first people in my group to like Final Fantasy "." then when I borrowed the game from one of my friends they seen the opening scene and was completly amazed by it. The said the graphics were kick @$$ and they wanted to play it too. Thats when we went down the store and bought our own copy. there were about 4 or 5 of us. We spent a month playing it cause we couldn't play without everyone being there. in the end after we beat the game I leveled all of the characters up alone.

I don't like the magic system, or the fact that monsters level with you, or the level 100 level cap(L5 Death rips me everytime...), and I don't like that magic only does like 1/10th of normal damage compared to other PSX FFs.

Overall though, I liked the story, the characters were cool and diverse; I liked Zell best; it had nice plot twists, was fairly easy to understand after thinking for anywhere from a moment to a few hours, I liked all the side quests, Gilgamesh killing Master Tonberry for me was cool too(Got lucky as Hell, eh?), and I LOVED Triple Triad. I dropped 20 hours into it before I even left for the Fire Cavern. I also like the conspiracy theories people come up with. Oh, and by the way, R doesn't = U. U=R.

If I was to score FF8 1 to 10, I'd give it a 7.

I love Final Fantasy VIII. :kaolove2: :hello:

It was the first Final Fantasy I ever played and is my favorite video game ever. I love everything about it...the story, characters, soundtrack, gameplay etc. and I think it has a nice balance of action, comedy, drama and romance. I felt it was more touching and emotional than some of the other Final Fantasys. Thinking about it brings back so many good memories of when me and my younger sister played it for the first time, and that point in my life as well. No game has ever made me feel the same way as Final Fantasy VIII has. (Kingdom Hearts is a close 2nd though) I doubt I would be on this site today if I didn't play it but more importantly, I probably would have never met my boyfriend if it weren't for that game. There are so many reasons why I love Final Fantasy VIII, and it will always have a special place in my heart.

Like many others here FFVIII introduced me to the universe that is the FF series. I love VIII for this. There are some deep flaws in the games system, drawing magic for example was capped at 9 spells but it'd give only 9 max even if you'd bothered to get magic stat to 255. Still per spell if you could guarantee 9 spells drawn thats only 11 rounds of the beasties beating on your ass, try drawing 100 ensuana or 100 double in the dollet mission, thats damn hard!

The atmosphere of VIII is brilliant, theres something that even when the characters do something stupid you end up feeling for them, when Irvine cracks in Gabaldia what Squall said to him really makes you feel for the party because Squall doesn't expect to win against Edea face to face let alone against all the G-soldiers in the vicinity and Seifer but needs Irvine to signal the assault. He essentially asked Irvine to sign their death certificates as far as he could tell. In this little action Irvine goes from being a shallow "ladies" man character to a lot deeper he has troubles and issues too and has to face these every day. To compensate he tends to act like an ass. Zell also has his moments in the prison and esthar where he proves himself to be more than a blonde airheaded jock. The characters of VIII truly progress and divulge these weaker or stronger sides in the storyline the world adds to this and encourages the player to engage in the story fully.

The forums contain lots of theories, some have merit...many do not. I've repeatedly clashed with writers of the theories in here, I mean not to be strange or a hater of the story but the story if you look in to it properly has lots of information and is far more explaining than it first seems, a big comment of note here is: Ultimecia most R=U theorists say theres no information about Ultimecia, if you pay attention to the game and speak to everyone more than once you eventually realize the game tells you all you need to know about her. You learn everything the people of your time know about Ultimecia, she is only known about because of her actions so Edea, Odine ect can only give limited perspectives, they can't say "Ultimecia is 30 standard years old, she was born in timber and is in fact SELPHIE!" what they know of her is what they learnt when she possessed Edea and in the time she has spent trying to get to Ellone. So they know Ultimecia is from the far future, her goal is time compression, they know and understand what time compression does and they know Ultimecia is willing to hurt anyone to do so. SeeD was not prophecised to destroy Ultimecia speciffically by Cid, they were in fact created to stop ANY sorceress of great power who got out of control...including Edea his wife. As far as Squall being the Legendary SeeD, by the time passes til Ultimecia's natural time Squall could have become legendary for many things not in the least destroying Ultimecia not that Ultimecia would be able to see her own future in the past. Squall led SeeD to over all victory against the G-Army, he stopped Edea, he got Esthar to re-open it's boundaries he done many things before we even hear the name Ultimecia. Ultimecia obviously knows of Squall because he was stopping her but changing the past doesn't mean you automatically know how it plays out because it's still your future.

It's not my favourite, but it's a good game and I love playing it. Especially when that nostalgia sets in, it's good to play through all the events again. Though drawing 100 magics really sucks, but you get used to it after a while :D

FFVIII took my RPG's virginity, so it has a special place in my heart. :jess:

No seriously, it was the first RPG I ever laid my hands on, because I thought them being kinda complicated to understand and they didn't quite appeal me. But when I happened to see some screenshots from the CG cuts on a magazine, I was overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the graphics. I just had to have it.

I know it has flaws (I mean, mayor flaws), but in the end it's a very cool game and the proof is that when I finally beat Ultimecia, I ran to the store to purchase FFVII and after that I have played almost every FF game that has been released, along with other games not only made by Square, like Capcom's excelent Breath of Fire.

I believe that if Square had taken a little more time to develop the characters and some points in the plot, this might have been their greatest creation, because it has everything: gorgeous graphics, innovative battle system (even if its annoying sometimes and makes the game overly easy. But FFVII had this flaw too: when you have Counter Magic paired with Ultima, plus Final blow with Phoenix, 4xcut with counter and so on and forth, the game is pretty easy too, it all depends on HOW you use the resources you've been given), good characters, a nice plot, awesome music and it took the PS' capabilities to its maximum.
