I listen to anything falling under the rock/metal thing. Um. I can do some top tens? Haha.

Top Ten Fem Fronted Bands
Evanescence (THE BEST)
Flyleaf (Lacey screams better than the guys in the business...)
Paramore (they are so amazing live)
Nightwish (symphonic metal from Finland. They've had a signer replacement as of 2006)
In This Moment (again. Maria screams better than the guys in the business)
Within Temptation (I believe they're Dutch. Sharon's voice goes really high. Haha. And her dance moves are splendiferous.)
The Morning Of (technically, they're boy/girl. But they're amazing pop punk)
The Dresden Dolls (Damn straight piano kicks ass, and you know it)
The Vincent Black Shadow (I can only describe Cassie's voice as sort of cabaret style. They're amazing, aside from the fact she has the misfortune to look a lot like Tila Tequila)
Tegan and Sara (If Hayley Williams likes them, they're good.)

Top Ten Guy Bands
Chiodos (hardcore + piano=love)
Saosin (Cove has lyrical/musical SKILLZ, babes)
Angels and Airwaves (That's Tom DeLonge from Blink-182, and everyone already knows he owns.)
Panic at the Disco (say what you like. you've got both albums hidden under your pillow.)
Alesana (yaaaay screamo!)
Atreyu (I first saw them live last summer and got hookeD)
Dear and the Headlights (they were the opening act for Paramore/Jimmy Eat World's tour.)
Mayday Parade (they're simply amazing. I'm glad they hit it.)
Scary Kids Scaring Kids (who else could come up with such an amazing name? AND music?!)
The Early November (so sad they broke up...)

I love you for loving Chiodos. Of all of the music I used to listen to and don't really anymore, Chiodos is still one I can listen to and love.

Anyway, what I listen to now is very... well, random. I listen to pretty much whatever anyone recommends to me, as long as it isn't rap or country. Almost every music file on my computer is either folk/alternative, video game soundtrack and remixes, and anime soundtracks.

Mainly indie, rock, alternative rock. Maybe some punk and metal, too. :P

Bands are:

MUSE
System of a Down
Arctic Monkeys
Bowling for Soup
Barenaked ladies
AC/DC
Andrew WK
Radiohead
Gallows

I think that's about it, though. I don't listen to a lot of music, and just flat out don't like it if there's no guitar. D:

Edit: I forgot Barenaked Ladies. xD

Scary Kids Scaring Kids (who else could come up with such an amazing name? AND music?!)

Well they actually took their name from a song by the far superior Cap'n Jazz.

Their music is far from amazing. It's actually the opposite.

Both traditional and contemporary folk music. The acoustic singer-songwriters of the 60's = <3. Though I shouldn't necessarily say "of the 60's", as most of them are still around and putting out material that's just as good. Those who started during the 60's.

Top ten? Mmkay.

1. Tom Paxton
2. John Denver
3. Phil Ochs
4. The Kingston Trio
5. James Taylor
6. Pete Seeger
7. Joni Mitchell
8. The Chad Mitchell Trio
9. Judy Collins
10. Gordon Lightfoot

My favorite songs include "Thirsty Boots" by Eric Andersen, "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell, and "American Pie" by Don McLean.

Gorgoroth
Pig Destroyer

I mostly like metal, but give me techno and I'll listen to that happily.

Power and avant-garde metal (Sonata Arctica, Wintersun)
SIDcore and VG metal (Machinae Supremacy, Powerglove)
Symphonic metal (Nightwish, Within Temptation)
Gothenburg metal (In Flames, Dark Tranquility)
Metalcore (Still Remains, As I Lay Dying)
Pretty much any trance, electro and general techno

Top Ten.. Ever? Because it's a weird list.

Pearl Jam
Smashing Pumpkins
System of a Down/Serj Tankian (Personally, I like Serj being solo more than anything)
Kamelot
Sonata Arctica
Opeth
Arch Enemy
Goo Goo Dolls
Nine Inch Nails
Marilyn Manson

Basically, with the above, I could listen to them at any time and be perfectly content. While I might not like their newer stuff *cough*Manson*Cough*NIN*cough* I'm still a die hard fan of their older.

Pearl Jam, Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Opeth, Goo Goo Dolls, and Soad/ST are an always good though. Basically saying, I like 99% of what they put out music wise, and I unless I just heard the song, if a song from one of the bands comes up on the radio or on my playlist, I won't change it.

Top Ten favorite songs? I can't freaking top them but I can list ten of my favorite from each band.

Pearl Jam - "Black" (Actually, this IS my number one favorite song ever, I'm an emo kid at heart. <3 )
Smashing Pumpkins - "Ava Adore" (I wanted to name my daughter Ava Adore but then my sister was like "NO BECAUSE THE SONG SAYS "YOU'LL ALWAYS BE MY WHORE" but you know what, if I have another little girl, I'm going to name her Ava Adore because I like that!)
System of a Down/Serj Tankian - *sits and thinks for 10 minutes*
Kamelot - *sits and thinks for 20 minutes*
Sonata Arctica - It's either "Fullmoon" or "Replica" or "Last Drop Falls"
Opeth - "In my Time of Need" and "Black Rose Immortal"
Arch Enemy - *sits and thinks for 10 minutes*
Goo Goo Dolls - "Iris" and "Slide"
Nine Inch Nails - "Ruiner" and "Reptile"
Marilyn Manson - "Snake Eyes and Sissies" and anything on the Mechanical Animals Cd.

I'll fill in the one's I have to think on in a bit.

6. Judas Preist - electric eye
7. Shadow's Fall - The light that blinds
8. Trapt - Headstrong
9. Linkin Park - Breaking the habit
10. Slipknot - Before I forget

And my favorite songs from each are there too, but the songs aren't really my top ten. Just the bands. Hanger 18 is probably my favorite song of all time.

I obviously like metal and hard rock

I guess I don't have similar tastes to anyone here! :p Besides like Cz. My favourites are:

1. Devendra Banhart
2. Joanna Newsom
3. Of Montreal
4. Female singers such as Feist and Emily Haines and throw in some Broken Social Scene there.
5. Man Man.
6. Sufjan Stevens.
7. Xiu Xiu.
8. Clint Mansell (one of my favourite composters)
9. Alexandre Desplat (another one of my favourite composers)
10. It's a throwup between Bright Eyes/Brand New for the last one.

That should give you an idea of what I listen to. It's out of order for the most part, I just filled it in as I thought of it.

As for songs,

1. Joanna Newsom - Only Skin
2. Clint Mansell - Death Is The Road To Awe
3. Brand New - The Boy That Blocked His Own Shot.
4. Mirah - Recommendation.
5. Of Montreal - We Were The Mutants Born Again With Leafling.
6. Xiu Xiu - I luv the valley, OH!
7. Man Man - Van Helsing Boombox.
8. Sufjan Stevens - Palisades/Decatur/whatever's on Seven Swans (I forget the whole name)
9. Bright Eyes - Messenger Birds Song.
10. Cliff Martinez - Don't Blow It.

These are the songs I listen to the most I think.

My tastes are quite predictable. A large base of popular modern rock music with some indie leanings and a smattering of post-rock, folk etc. I'd love to flesh out my library a bit more and get some more diverse music, but I don't really have the cash.

I can't rank my favourite bands, but the list would definitely have to include The Beatles, Radiohead, British Sea Power, Interpol, The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Bright Eyes, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Velvet Underground...gah, starting this list was a bad idea.

There's no way I can come close to picking a list of favourite songs. :p

"SIDcore and VG metal"

Genres I never heard before! -Whips out notepad-
Anyways, about the Alesana, if you think that's screamo, listen to this little-known band named Saetia.
Sounds a lot different. ;)
It's really raw, they basically don't alter their music through machines in the studio.
I guess "definitions" chsnge over time, but it's always good to look back on the pioneers and roots; Becuase without them, we wouldn't have bands, and artists, at all.

Back on topic, I can NEVER have a favorite song, or an artist/band. I'm too ecletic. :P

Hip Hop and most urban music from the UK. I'm open to everything else except crap like Death Metal and the like.

DK
07-22-2008, 06:54 PM
I listen to pretty much anything that isn't part of the "mainstream" here in the UK and I suppose the US, by which I mean stuff that gets played most regularly on the most popular channels. Not because I have some sort of elitist bullshiets that means whenever something is popular I have to hate it, just because the stuff I like is either not really suitable for the mainstream or popular enough anymore/likely to be popular enough. And most of the stuff that gets played on the radio and TV doesn't appeal to me either, I find it boring, unpassionate and soulless. Stuff like your generic pop bands and then things like U2, Coldplay, Muse etc. Just horrendously boring nothing music to me. Pap.

But yeah I listen to all sorts of from Extreme Metal, mostly Black and Viking with a fair amount of Folk Metal in there as well, bit of Doom as well. Jazz and Acid Jazz, weird Industrial Post-Hip Hop madness like Dalek, fair amount of classical and some opera, post-rock, heavily getting into ambience and noise lately (bands like Hammock and Stars of the Lid), Reggae, some Lounge music, a lot of OST's from various types of media and then just stuff I can't even classify like MCM who are gods. and I have a few filthy terrible J-pop/rock/rap artists that makes me feel dirty that I listen to them but I love them anyway, like Shocking Lemon (Hajime no Ippo's fault), Dragon Ash (genius band, don't actually feel dirty for listening to them but wanted to mention them), Ketsumeishi and Happatai :aimkiss:

I'll listen to almost anything, not counting rap, country, or hip hop. That reminds me, I just saw this hilarious kid show called "Hip Hop Harry" this morning, and it truly shows that Kids shows just aren't what they used to be.

Back on track though, the main bands that I listen to are usually alternative or rock. Third Eye Blind, Eve 6, Bouncing Souls, Goldfinger, Angels and Airwaves, U2, Less Than Jake for a few examples.
