I didn't see a favorite album thread, so here's one. What are some of your favorite albums? For the sake of having a number, let's say pick 3, but I don't think anyone will care if you go over or under.

Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
The first rock album I ever bought, still one of my favorites. There are just so many reasons this album kicks ass. Pretty much the only things I can think of that I don't like about it is Sweet Child of Mine (Guitar Hero nerds killed it, same with Through the Fire and Flames) and the fact that the album doesn't end on something cooler (Rocket Queen's cool, but all the cooler songs were in like the first half of the album). If it weren't for this album I'd probably never have picked up guitar.

Cradle of Filth - Midian
Say whatever you want, Cradle of Filth was a good band before Dani let the attention the band got from this album get to his head. This album made me realize that there's more to metal than just thrash. This opened the door for obsession with black metal. Yup, blame Cradle of Filth, the most sellouty band in extreme metal. Well, except Cryptopsy. Kickass riffs, awesome synths, and poetic lyrics that actually tell a story of sorts or revolve around a central theme, unlike Dani's lyrics now which have degenerated into a retarded sea of gothic imagery.

Chthonic - Seediq Bale
This album is just badass, there isn't a bad song on here, if you like symphonic metal, melodic death metal, or black metal, definitely check this out.

And

Hard one. For now I'll say Kamelot - Ghost Opera. Not a single track I don't like, and theres quite a few songs on their that are plain awesome, like Ghost Opera, Up Through the Ashes, Love you to Death, Mourning Star, and Rule the World.

I like Cradle! I especially like Nymphetamine and Babylon AD.

The Rasmus - Dead Letters
It was the first Rasmus album I bought, and it was their 5th. It was the album with 'In The Shadows' and 'Guilty' which are still my favourite ever songs, even after so many years. I must have played this album a million times, but I just love every single song on it, it's amazing and still one of my favourites; my family have learnt the words to most of the songs now. I even prefer this album to their latest album and their older albums, The Rasmus themselves even branded it "a monster album that would be hard to beat".

There are other albums which I really like, but that one is like the ultimate one.

I wouldn't say fav, but it's an awesome one.

The Downward Spiral - NIN

Wrap your brains around the subtext and story of that album.

Joanna Newsom - Y's
Of Montreal - The Sunlandic Twins, Hissing Fauna, Coquelicot Sleeps Alone in the Poppies
Devendra Banhart - Smokey Runs Down Thunder Canyon, Nino Rojo, Cripple Crow

sweet.

See, you started off good, then suddenly derailed :P

My favourite album of all time is Illusions by Micael Graves and Damon Echols. It was mostly written by Echols and performed by Graves. Michael Graves put the project together to help raise money towards Echols appeal to be released from the death penalty and prison on wrongful acuations of murder. He and two other people were accused of a murder because they were in the area at the time and dressed in goth clothing and listened to heavy metal music.

Hahaha, Cradle of Filth. They are about as extreme as O.P.M's skateboarding. Awful band.

Anyway I couldn't really pick some concrete favourite albums 'cause I tend to get bands entire discographies or close to it at a time and listen to them all in one go and then just play whatever I enjoy from them. I will randomly pick some albums I remember being quality and run with those.

DJ Shadow - ...Endtroducing
Enslaved - Mardraum/Below the Lights/Isa (cba to pick one of the three, all awesome Black Metal albums)
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape
Dälek - Abandoned Language
Nick Drake - Pink Moon

will do for now

I want to add another one. Damien Rice has been the staple of my dreamlife and sleeplife. So "O" is one of my most favouritest albums and deserves its own post, especially since it isn't a double post. ;x

In our opinion. Anyway, this isn't for bashing people's tastes.

Another favourite of mine is Alkaline Trio's Maybe I'll Catch Fire. The whole album is great songs.

Hail to the Thief, by Radiohead.
I know everyone says Kid A is their best album (except for this crazy friend of mine who thinks it's Pablo Honey but she's crazy) but I've sinned and haven't heard the whole thing. Still, I bet even after I have, Hail to the Thief will be my favourite. I love every single one of the songs (which is rare for me), the lyrics, the alternate titles; I even love the album art.

Except for a handful of others, there are very few albums out there where I can actually listen to the whole of it without skipping a song, let alone loving the whole thing.

Judging by my last.fm and my own personal beliefs, and in no particular order (not even alphabetical):

Sufjan Stevens - Come On, Feel the Illinoise!
Elliot Smith - Either/Or
Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Radiohead - OK Computer
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Animal Collective - Feels
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

Yeah, I like Radiohead.

The Eagles - Hotel California
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
Nobuo Uematsu - FFVIII Piano Collection

Not that many, I suppose. Really enjoy those in on the whole as albums, though they don't necessarily contain my favourite songs. Just albums I enjoy listening to in their entireties.

Bloodline666
07-19-2008, 07:21 AM
Cannibal Corpse - The Bleeding (I especially like the first four tracks)
Slayer - Reign In Blood (though Hell Awaits is quickly taking over as my favorite from that band)
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Death - Symbolic
Testament - The New Order

Joanna Newsom - Ys
The Microphones - The Glow, Part Two
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
Clint Mansell/ Mogwai - The Fountain OST
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane, Over the Sea

Coldplay - Parachutes
For some reason that kinda surprises me. I guess you always came across as the type to hate on Coldplay.

Picking favorites is hard, because albums I love start to become overplayed after a time and I move on to new things. Plus it all changes with my moods and the season (seasons play a lot into my musical preferences).

last.fm isn't that helpful on this apparently, so...

Basically the Radiohead discography, minus Pablo Honey
Killers - Sam's Town
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
mc chris - mc chris is dead
Amon Tobin - Supermodified
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
Brand New - Deja Entendu

No particular order there.

Au contraire, my friend
Muse - Black Holes and Revelationsis much more of an album I would hate on. The lead singer's voice annoys me. He tries to do a Thom Yorke and just sounds as if he's singing in the shower.

I don't even know if you're male or female but I can already tell that we would make sweet sweet love together :choc2:

RHCP - By the Way
Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
Aqua - Aquarium
Golden Earring - The Continuing Story of Radar Love
Coldplay - Rush of Blood to the Head
John Denver - Farewell Andromeda
Jewel - Pieces of You
Radiohead - The Bends
System of a Down - Toxicity
AFI - Sing the Sorrow
Alan Parson's Project - Tales of Mystery and Imagination

that's more of a complete list of entire albums I have loved through the years, but atm I think I could probably narrow it down to Radar Love, By the Way, and Black Holes and Revelations.
