I keep changing my email addresses. I just want one that I can use for everything. I used to hate those boring emails that are just like, your name, but I've realized that I do need a "professional" email. It's not like I can email future employers/school administration, etc. with an email like monkeigirlie@hotmail.com (not my email, never was xD Just MSN name) or something, right?

So a few months ago I registered an email with gmail that included the first initial of my first name, my last name, and my year of birth. But now I'm like, "Gah, maybe the year of birth thing was a bad idea" because well, what if there's situations where I don't want people to know my year of birth? :p So now I'm considering changing my email... AGAIN... because it's better to do it now than in 20 years, right? People are going to get annoyed at me. I change my emails as often as I change LJs!

Anyway ^_^ What type of email address is a good one, in your opinion? Is it dumb to include your birthdate in your email? What email service provider do you use?

Gmail has the advantage of not having a "little kid" reputation and still being free. Do you ever use the webmaster/missress@neskaya.net? You probably wouldn't for something whoaprofessional, but it might be good for semi-professional. Your own domain always adds that extra something.

I registered redacted@gmail.com a couple of days ago out of fun, and I think it was probably a good idea.

You could also use your ISP e-mail if you want someone to have very little idea about who you are. (so long as the username is not hottieazn4098)

A Most Loved Mans e-mail addresses are:

lean_mean_love_making_machine@gmail.com

love_monster@gmail.com

bringer_of_pleasure_2_women@gmail.com

best_man_in_the_world@yahoo.com

A Most Loved Man uses any of these 4 e-mails when contacting employers or for professional reasons. He always gets a response of the positive kind ;)

That's funny, because gmail doesn't allow underscores ;) :aimkiss:

Yeah, I've considered using my domain for professional purposes, but seeing as how it's not a professional domain and if they ever went there they'd be like "Whoa pink girly 3 year old" I didn't think that was a good idea. xD

Yah, they do ;)

Or did maybe. A Most Loved Man registered his e-mail addresses back in 2006.

Dunno if they changed the rules now

I have a ton of email addresses. xP I've only ever changed my main email address once, from Hotmail to Gmail. However, I've set up about a zillion other ones for various reasons. xP I have my resume email address that automatically forwards everything to my main address. I also have a few dummy accounts for signing up for things I don't trust. :P That way I can just close the account if I start getting bombarded with spam.

Did gmail even exist in 2006? I don't remember. It's fairly new isn't it?

EDIT: It was released to the public in February 2007.

I'm fairly sure it's older, only with a stricter invite system before. I remember when everyone was like OMG GMAIL 1 GB I WANT INVITE =n.n= back in like... 2005 or something.

"Gmail, officially Google Mail in Germany and the United Kingdom, is a free Web-based email (webmail), POP3[1] and IMAP[2] e-mail service provided by Google. On April 1, 2004 the product began as an invitation-only beta release. On February 7, 2007 the beta version was opened to the general public.[3] With an initial storage capacity of 1 GB, it drastically increased the standard for free storage.[4]" ~ Wikipedia

So unless he got an invite, it would be all the more impossible. :p

I've had a gmail account since before 2007. I'm pretty sure they also had an open invite for a while when it first started. Hence people having invites to give out. ;)

I have one email account as my name for profesional purposes and one for whatever.

No one invited me. I guess that's why I never started using it until last year. :p

A school email is always going to look fairly official, especially if you play it safe and use your name or your first initial and your last name. I'd avoid numbers if you're trying to do anything professional with it.

I mainly use azar42@gmail.com, but I also have a University of Georgia email for school purposes and a couple other ones I don't use much.

How about joytheazn@gmail.com?

Back in the day, you had to hunt down Gmail invites!

Gmail is my favorite, though I also enjoy my college email address. I'm trying to get people to email me through that more.

I also like the email system I have at work, through Microsoft Outlook.

I used my school email up until now, but now that I graduated the email is expiring in another month or so.

I'm getting a new school email when I go to law school, but that'll expire in 3 years too. D: I'm so sick of my emails expiring. I'll probably just end up using the school one anyway though. xD

Also, it's not good to lie. joymonkey69@gmail.com? >:[

Well, all the more reason I never had it.

No one emails me anything anyway-- I use my gmail address for applications and stuff and forum/eBay updates and that's pretty much it. :D

Most of my email accounts that aren't my "main" one are loaded down with spam. That's why I try to avoid posting my main ones anywhere. I've had a ton of email addys throughout the years though:

Aside from my "professional" one,
my school one,
strawbee{at}neskaya.net is my domain email for website purposes.
strawbee@gmail.com
borealis.auroras@gmail.com
joyberrie@gmail.com
monkeigirlie@hotmail.com
monkeigirlie@yahoo.com
i_anomaly@yahoo.com
tifaleonheart@hotmail.com
raineff8@yahoo.com
tifalockheart99@yahoo.com

The list goes on xD tifalockheart99@yahoo.com was my first email, though, back in 1999! I still use a lot of those for registration type things.

Sometime shortly after I got an invite, they gave out 99 invites to everyone and it was just as good as an open beta. I had to earn mine though.

You could just set up all the emails you use with any regularity in Thunderbird. You can also configure the accounts in such a way that when you send an email you can choose which address it goes out from. Convenient. :choc2:

you can do that in gmail too! I've almost completely replaced my school's mail page like that. It started just by downloading my school mails into gmail, and then I learned how to well, I guess spoof the address so I didn't have to go there to send mail :D

*goes there to delete mail so she doesn't have to worry about her account getting full again :X*

they unsubscribe you from the honors college listserv when you bounce too many mails ;.;

Usually something combining "jesse" "jessweeee" or "limabean" with the numbers 053 if I can't get them on their own. I haven't registered anything with limabean since I was like twelve, though.

(Well, except that one time I got bored and made a second account, but that doesn't count.)

I have two e-mail addresses that I use. My school e-mail address, I've never gotten a single piece of spam in 2 years. Yay! My hotmail address I've had since 2001, and that gets its fair share of spam, but nothing too bad. I use that for LJ and to get my Newberg Reports, which is what fills up 80 of the 113 pages of e-mails that I have saved.

I have a hotmail one that I use for MSN and anything likely to get me a lot of spam or unwanted e-mails that I need to sign up for (forums, for instance), I have a college e-mail address that I used extensively while I was there and I also have a personal gmail one that I use for important stuff like applying for jobs, applying for university and the like.

I use le_vian@hotmail.com for all sorts of crap I need to enter an email address for. So that's where all the viagra emails go. My actual email which consists of my first and last name only, I use for more important stuff.

I'd like to say I use a hotmail address from 1998 for everything that I know will result in spam; a gmail account from 2004 for social purposes and a work address for work related things.

In reality I just use my work address for most things I know won't result in spam. :p

I've had a Hotmail account since 1999 that I still use regularly. Got Gmail in '05 and have been using that more frequently for more important/serious stuff. Had/have an AOL account that I've used all of maybe 3 times in the 5 or so years I've had it, and had/have a Yahoo account as well. I've had several other joke accounts for various purposes, but these days I just use Spam.la (http://spam.la) for that.

Then there's the one I use for work, and my address from my first ISP that I stopped using 10 years ago, but I still get e-mails from it (it was linked to my Hotmail). Hotmail and Gmail are the ones I actively use.

I've had gmail for longer than world of warcraft has been around; though my first email is from being warned by the 2nd day of it being live xD

Joy it doesn't take a lot of money to register a new domain name (say, Joyproductions.net), which should allow you to have a customizable email address from it. Failing that, I don't see anything wrong with neskaya.net =)

I wish I had a less gay email. intense.firetruck is gay and I don't know why I used it. Oh well. I might just make a new gmail account eventually. I think the professional ones are boring too. But I honestly don't think many people are going to take me seriously with intense.firetruck.

I change my msn hotmail username frequently though! :)

I got invited to Gmail before everybody got lots of invitations. That makes me cool, right?

I also registered an extra two Gmail addresses typed in slightly different ways than my main, which all forward everything except spam to my main. This to prevent losing mail because of misspellings. :-]

Additionally, I have a school address and one for sign-up forms. Also a barrage of addresses I don't use.
