Ok, there is a high high chance I will be able to make this now.
But, I'll be arriving Saturday. Don't know what time yet. Lets work on that.
Bring the Dabrowskis with you plzkthx
I wouldn't mind doing that. If they are ok with the idea. =P
Well, the question still is, are you?
If this works, I'll be impressed. People never have the energy anymore. Especially in the UK, and we're small.

Well, it's been kind of a technological nightmare getting here but I'm sortakinda settled in RI now and I have my class schedule. JKTrix is good to go for Oct 24-26... except not with the Aunt as anticipated. I'm gonna communicate with Ko Ko to see if she'll let me in there, otherwise I'll have to sign up for the hotel room.
As for the 'technological nightmare'... My computer died. I'm using my dad's computer right now but he heads back home in like 2 days, and it's a pain checking this site on my phone. Hopefully I can keep updated on this event through the contacts.
Also, I have a pretty nice camera (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=DSLRA300K), so I can be one person in charge of photos. I'll just have to link up with someone else's computer before we split up if my machine isn't fixed by then.

Our motivation is the successful Chicago meetup that happened.
Wow, sorry for not posting in this for a while, I was hella busy.
Yeah, I'm really excited for this. I'll book my AMTRAK soon.
Also, Chelsea Star is a pretty cute hotel, though it'd be a lie to put it up to a Holiday Inn standard. If you guys don't mind a weird funky hotel for a night, then Chelsea Star is great. It kind of put me off at first, but Hux and I grew to like it somewhat. It is a pretty big walk though to Central Park and Time Square and other things like that. I would understand if you guys would want to make a reservation to a hotel closer to CP that's more expensive, but not so bad if we split it all between us. I think I'd prefer that, tbh.

We are nearing my self-imposed deadline and I only received confirmation (written or oral lol oral) from like 6-7 people.
While I don't mind a 8 person meetup, the proposed list had a lot more.
Therefore, I have PM'd the whole lot of you. In order to make this easier (ie more stressful) on everybody, I demand, nay, command everybody who reads this to harass the remaining members who have yet to confirm.

So I'm going to handle this just like the Chicago meetup.
Address
Comfort Inn Central Park West
31 W 71st St
NEW YORK, NY, US 10023
212.721.4770
32.50$ per person, assuming 8 of us show up.
26$ if Misfit/Jowy show up
Arrive: Saturday, around 3-4pm
Leave: Sunday, around 11a-12pm
I am not willing to arrive on Friday for reasons I won't get into (financial) so it will be a Saturday/Sunday affair. Feel free to talk to Ko Ko or Denmark about Friday night accommodations. I am under the impression that we will be staying in Manhattan on Saturday, and Ko Ko is in Brooklyn, which is ~30 mins away (doesn't appear to involve freeways) by car. Either way, you guys figure it out.
Closer to the meetup day I will PM everybody who I have listed as confirmed with my phone number in case it is required. I have talked to my cell phone provider and they told me I just have to power cycle the phone when on USA property and it should work. Failing that, I suppose you will have to call the hotel (phone # above).

Yeah, I dunno where you guys are staying Friday, but I'm going to come on Saturday, because I don't like not knowing where I'm staying. I dunno when I'm coming on Saturday. I'd like to come once the check-in at the hotel is done, so that I can drop my bags off. The New Yorker is nice and close to Central Park, but also close to Penn Station, very good location. I'd like to meet everyone at Penn Station, since a lot of people may be coming out from there.
Exciting!

If anyone else is coming on Friday, let me know. Faris and I are gonna meet at the bus station where we'll both be coming in, then what we'll probably do is take the subway to somewhere near Ko Ko's place (by far the best mode of transportation imho amirite). And then we'll probably all head back into Manhattan the following morning. (someone correct me if there's a better (cheaper) way to go about doing this)

After talking to Jessichu, we have decided to go with the New Yorker Hotel (http://www.newyorkerhotel.com/index.html) rather than Chelsea Lodge (I personally would like to stay at the Ritz Carlton -- there's enough of us that it would only cost 200$ a person!). I will reserve a room and we'll sneak in all 8 (maybe up to 10) of us in there.
Only $200? Dude, I'm a broke college student. I don't even have $20 most of the time. xD Regardless, just let me know beforehand how much money we'll need for the room. I definitely like the New Yorker Hotel better tbh.

Quick question: What time will we be going our separate way on Sunday?
Denmark
10-07-2008, 04:23 AM
Ko Ko: I'll probably give you a call closer to the event (like during the week leading up to it), I'm pretty busy until then.
I guess we'll probably be dissipating whenever is most convenient for us? There's a bus at noon on Sunday which would probably be best for me, since if I miss it the next possible bus wouldn't be until 3, and it's likely I'll have a decent amount of work to do.
EDIT: People coming Saturday, try to get there as early as possible in order to maximize funtimes! (This applies most directly to those who live relatively close to NYC whose traveling time will be short.) Also, protip: sleeping Saturday night is not a priority for me. I'd much rather hang out with awesome folks than sleep, considering our limited time together.
As the event draws closer (it's only two weeks from this coming weekend!) I'd like to acquire (and I'm sure PG would too, but as I'll be there earlier I'll take charge for the early crowd, so PG has a contact with some organized knowledge) some contact info and info on when you're all planning on arriving. Oh, and also your real names. :shifty: If everyone that's coming has a cell/mobile phone that would be of utmost convenience.
Oh here, I have a cell number, take it: 518-610-1191. If you don't feel comfortable putting your cell number in public, PM it to me & PG sometime.
We should organize a meeting place, also. Later! (Someone who somewhat knows the city pl0x)
So, too long; didn't read: I use a lot of parentheses. And I have a lot to say, and I bet there's more.
JKTrix
10-08-2008, 01:50 AM
For what it's worth, I was gonna stay with Ko Ko the whole time, so 'minus one' person for whoever is going to be in the hotels.
I'm gonna be making a 'test run' trip this Friday to see what it's like (because I can), so if all goes as planned I'll be arriving on the Friday of the event as well.
Penn Station would be a good place for us to all meet!
Peegee
10-08-2008, 06:01 PM
On Sunday we'll just check out in the morning (check-out is usually 11a-12pm) and do whatever we want.
I will probably leave asap unless people need rides to places.
A word up to the folks in this thread that I might have trouble coming because I'm running very low in the bank right now, and this meet up is going to cost me about $200-$300 dollars between all of the costs, that I just don't HAVE right now. I'm going to see what I can do with the money, and I'll try my best, but I'd figure I'd warn people sooner than later.
Peegee
10-12-2008, 03:45 AM
Again, hope you can make it Rye. But no pressure for anybody to show up (I do hope however that I don't end up seeing 3 people show up - Denmark, Ko Ko, Shiny) I mean it would be wicked to have a meet up with a small amount of people -- I just hope it will be larger.
Closer to the meet up day I will try to figure out what people will be doing and if they need a ride from Penn Stn to the New Yorker Hotel (I don't know anything about distances). I'd like to be able to just go to the hotel and get all of that nasty business out of the way but if not, I'm okay for chauffeuring people to the hotel.
We'll see.
I'll do my best. And it's a very easy walking distance, 5 minutes at most, from Penn to The New Yorker. =O

Update:
- Chelsea Star is unavailable
- New Yorker rooms cost 400$, and I rounded down. That works out to about 50$ a person. 40$ if Misfit/Jowy shows up
What to do? We could split up into two groups and some of you can take Ko Ko's hospitality. The rest of us can find something affordable out of the area (I has car after all)
Or I can keep looking. Or you can suggest a room. I'm just the organizer here ;p
Denmark
10-14-2008, 03:21 PM
Maybe I'm just wealthy but that isn't really a terrible price per person imho. But what do I know ^_^
Peegee
10-14-2008, 03:23 PM
Well it's not affordable for everybody. I know for a fact that a certain somebody who I'd like to meet would find the price tag of staying troublesome.
There's definitely going to be better options but I don't know if we'd like to settle. There's places I can get that are as low as 30$ a night, with availability. But do we really want to stay at a 2 star hotel? o_O
Denmark
10-14-2008, 03:35 PM
2 star hotel really probably won't be as bad as it sounds...maybe. Yes I can understand the price thing being a problem for others.
What's the name of the other places you've looked at?
Peegee
10-14-2008, 03:46 PM
Will edit this as I get more
Comfort Inn Central Park West
31 W 71st St
NEW YORK, NY, US 10023
$260
Pan American Hotel
79-00 Queens Blvd
ELMHURST, NY, US 11373
$239
Millennium Broadway Hotel - Times Square
145 W 44th St
NEW YORK, NY, US 10036
$279
edit: Ultimately it's up to you guys what to do. We could delay the meetup (I won't be able to meet any that happens after Nov 21st) or you can tell me what you think. Ultimately I saw the 50$ a person for one night and freaked. However the other prices aren't that much better. There simply aren't any hotels in the 150-200 (20-25$ per person) range that I can find. The 24$ room just screams 'ew' to me, even if we're just going to sit there.
The hotels above works out to be around 30$ a person. The New Yorker is 20$ more than that. It's your call guys.
Judging from Denmark's reaction we have two people who are 'game for anything'. I'll be spending so much money driving to NYC that it doesn't matter where I stay (ie I can stay at the new yorker, as that is the most we're going to pay)
Faris
10-14-2008, 04:01 PM
I don't mind where we stay at (soooo helpful, I know :p). I think it would be best to find a place that is affordable, decent and easy to get to. if we have to vote, I vote Pan American
Edit: I already bought my bus ticket for next weekend, so I'm kinda stuck coming.
Denmark
10-14-2008, 04:05 PM
Next weekend is the only weekend that's good for me until next year, so I'd like to keep it to then.
