Yeah, sure is a debacle. What with the game going exclusively over to the 360 and all.

Wait, what's that you say? It's still coming out on the PS3? At the same time at that?

Console fanboy baaaaaaw is hilarity at it's finest.

I'm glad they went back to the technological fantasy look/feel that was back in FFVI-VIII and not the not-so-techno-fantasy Star Wars look/feel that was in XII

Oh god, if you think it's bad here you should have been in the G4 E3 chatroom x.x

WHY DID I GO THERE?

Once again Square let us down with another pointless trailer. We've seen 95% of that trailer already and the remaining 5% has already been shown in leaked pictures. Please Square, don't waste your time with another trailer unless it is all new footage. Ill wait years just not the same crap over and over again.

I think it's great that we finally got our third public trailer. I didn't like the music in the trailer though. The new footage that I see in this trailer(that wasn't in the first two public trailer, but much of it was in released photos), I liked. The best part was the very attractive red-haired pigtailed main character girl, I wish I knew her name. The trailer scene selection and/or "story" didn't seem as good as in the first two public trailers though. I want to see more important Final Fantasy XIII news at the Square Enix event in early August. But I thought that I read that this event would be something like a warmup for the Tokyo Game Show in October.

So today's news was the biggest Final Fantasy XIII news since the game was announced. Although two years have now passed and we don't know a lot more about this game. A downside also is that maybe the release of a Xbox 360 version in Usa and Europe will delay the release of the game in these territories. I want the game in Fall 2009 in Usa! :)

Square needs to change up their design style. I feel like they've been doing the same designs (only with updated graphics) since FFX. Pointy chin, feathery hair, outfits that look oddly put together, etc. None of this excites me cause I feel like it's the same ol' same ol'.

Maybe they should change character designers from Tetsuya Nomura to somebody new, not sure though, right now I like him...check out his resume...
Tetsuya Nomura - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya_Nomura)

As far as art directors go, they have newer guy Isamu Kamikokuryō as Final Fantasy XIII, although he did some work Final Fantasy XII.

What game would you prefer it look like? I'm excited that Toshiro Tsuchida from Front Mission is the battle director. :)

I don't want them to mimic another game, I want to them to change things up with each game rather than having the same look time and time again.

I think your right. Its time Nomura steps down or changes his approach. Its too anime-like. It worked and was still fresh with VII and VIII, 9 was someone else, but it was pushing it with X (even though I still greatly enjoyed the game).

I guess they are trying to give it a broader appeal?
A broader appeal can greatly water something down. So how do games like SotC do it?

My hope lies in the battle system and the storyline. I like the themes so far.

P.S. No stormtroopers please.
Also the music was the best in the first trailer, in this it sounded too much like star wars/FFXII. They are leaning towards scores rather than soundtracks. Like pieces in epic movies where the music is used only to accompany the film but is completely forgettable once the movie is over. This was different with Nobuo, who made some truely memorable pieces.

I think Nomura's character designs are one of the few things that make an FF game FF...without it it looks like any other JRPG...

I don't know if thats a good thing or bad thing. I'll stick with the other JRPG's if it's Nomura's character design's that make FF what they are.

Exactly.
Whos in charge of the story btw? I hope its not Nomura as well. Kitase is miles better.

Ouch!

Never mind the fact that 75% of the main titles in the series utilized a different character designer. Nomura defines Final Fantasy!

haha... priceless.

I love how we have seen like all of the stuff in this trailer. The few new parts were nice.. but... why not give us something ENTIRELY new?
Come on, Square. I love you! :)

The game's looking visually amazing, but I'm still not that worked up over it. The character designs are re-hashes of what we've seen before, and the combat seems to be trying to emulate all the fantastical acrobatics seen in any recent science-fantasy gunfest.
Still, the landscapes are pretty. They're definitely going a step further than earlier games when it comes to blending technology and magic... summons that appear out of magic DVDs? The concepts have potential.

Also: Star Wars didn't invent the concept of stormtroopers. Those weirdoes in the trailer with the ridiculous uniforms seem to have helmets modeled on hockey masks more than anything else.

It's odd... the PS3 gives them the best opportunity to create a real, believable fantasy world - but instead they're making it pretty while detracting from the realism. I'm just not interested in heroes who never break and sweat and never get injured, or whose clothing and armour has no bearing at all on their movement or defence. In future, they really ought to consult an expert or two who knows about modern weaponry and tactics, and historical weaponry and tactics. Armour and technique, and the appropriate use of each, can make a huge difference when you're trying to construct a realistic setting. Sure, teenage boys probably like the sight of a bikini-clad girl leaping through the air upside down while shooting up army tanks with handguns, but that basically fails as anything more than sensory porn.

Well Lightning was asked to be designed like Cloud with a vagina... (Maybe not that crudely, but that's what was asked.)

I'm just glad it isn't yet another male protagonist.

I'm not sure if it's announced yet. The traditional scenario writer for the main Final Fantasy games is often Kazushige Nojima(VII, VIII, X, X-2, VII:BC, VII:AC, VII:DoC, etc), so he could return. But it could also be the producer Yoshinori Kitase(V, VI, VII, etc), but this is less likely. It could also be director Motomu Toriyama(XII:RW, etc), who for some reason is listed as the scenario writer on the Wikipedia page. There is no source for this that I found.

Some places say it's Toriyama and some say it's Nojima. Another place says that Nojima wrote the base mythology and background for all the Fabula Nova Crystallis games and that each specific game will have stories written by their directors. Final Fantasy XIII is directed by Motomu Toriyama who has recent writing experience, so this could make sense for that game. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is directed by Tetsuya Nomura, who has no official writing experience I know of(although maybe he had input but wasn't ever a scenario writer), so this may not make sense for that game. Final Fantasy Agito XIII is being directed by Hajime Tabata, who doesn't have scenario writer experience that I know of. His two released games are FF VII: BC and FF VII: CC, both by Kazushige Nojima. He has Final Fantasy Agito XIII and two other upcoming games. Those are Kingdom Hearts: Coded(unknown scenario writer I know of), and The 3rd Birthday(directed by Motomu Toriyama).

This is interesting topic. :)

Wow, it's like they combined Star Wars with something from every other game.

For some reason all the flying ship things SCREAM FFVIII to me. While the "storm troopers" SHOULD scream Star Wars they scream FFVI because of the trooper steam punk setting... which.. FFVI ironicaly screamed Star Wars at times.. because of the imperial troopers.. storm troopers. :(

Just by looking at the trailer, I have NO FREAKING IDEA what the plot could be. All those pretty places are really nice to look at but for some reason I can't imagine them all being on the same planet.

Eh, I dunno, I still don't plan on getting this. It looks pretty, but that's it.

I agree. Personally I like the simple clothing designs we got from FFVI and down. Somehow random metal, belts, and lack of clothes seemed to have made their way into the designs FFVII and up. Looking at things logically, casts from FFVI and down would prolly have a better chance of lasting in a battle solely because of their clothes, I can't imagine someone being able to fight with 13 belts on their arm, or scarves flying everywhere, or giant metal boots, and not only that, the one wearing giant metal boots is the theif for some reason!

Maybe that's why I've been turned off from FF for a while now, it's becoming annoyingly unrealistic. With FFXII I couldn't get my mind past how Ashe was a fighter and only had random plate armor. I can only imagine the kind of wounds she would have really been recieving with such a lack of clothes. I also couldn't imagine her dodging that well because her boots are freaking metal.

I don't really mind all this, final fantasy is fantasy after all. As Bob Ross once said: "anything goes in your world". :choc:

You can still do fantasy and still have it rooted in reality.

The costume design for Lord of the Rings is a great example of this. The costumes were stunning in the movie, and if you've ever watched the behind the scenes footage, you can see just how much thought they put behind every element of a character's wardrobe. Everything had a purpose, every color palette had a meaning, even the type of stitching that was used was carefully considered for each character, depending on their background and culture.

Now I don't expect Final Fantasy to put the same amount of work into costumes as a movie would, because obviously, the costumes in a game aren't meant to be wearable in real life. So things like stitching patterns mean nothing.

But it would be nice if they considered things like, "What would someone be wearing if they were a fighter? A princess?" Rather than just trowing things together because it looks pretty or cool on paper.
