View Full Version : Creepy Wonka
Huxley and I can't agree. I adore the old Willy Wonka. I think of him as cheery. I am horrified by the new Willy Wonka though. I like Johnny Depp, but in that movie, he scared me. The whole new version terrifies me. ;;
However, he thinks the old Willy Wonka is a scary and is a total kiddie toucher. He much prefers the new one.

I like them both to be honest. The new Willie is funny as hell, the old one, not so much. The old Willie is much more happy, though, which is nice.

Gene Wilder was an excellent choice to play Willie Wonka and his appearance is exactly as I imagined Wonka as looking when I read the book. I really didn't like the new version, partly because of how Depp portrayed Wonka.

Old Willy Wonka is terrifying bizarre and wrong. New one is awesome, valid, and justice.

They're both creepy as hell and I hate those goddamn movies.
The newer one is at least pretty to watch though.

Man, when gene wilder got on that paddle boat and went through the tunnel of psychadelia, that was the creepiest thing in the world.
depp is probably creepier overall though.
The old Willy Wonka does nothing in his spare time except touch children.

If you didn't find the acid trip boat scene in the original Willy Wonka creepy, I don't understand how you judge humankind.
However, I will take Gene Wilder over Johnny Depp any day.

That was very creepy. Both versions are creepy. But Johnny Depp's version horrified me.
Johnny Depp's version horrified me as well. Not because he was creepy but because he was <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" />, utterly destroyed the character of Willy Wonka. One of the worst remakes of a film in the history of cinema and he deserves to be put down for it.
I've only watched the older version, but I actually cannot remember it for the life of me.

I have to agree. Everything about it unsettled me. I hated that dentist story. I hated the creepy Danny Devito-look alike oompa loompas. There was nothing that had to be changed about the original at all. ;;
I've only seen bits of the new one with Depp but the bits I have seen were all like OMG NO!
I love the Gene Wilder one with all of my heart. I think my class watched that movie every month in third grade, it was fantastic just the way it was and it was my childhood.

I prefer the old Willy Wonka because he was alot more posimistic. He was in it for the chocolate.
Though the creepiest thing to me is how this thing somehow has two names where half the people I know call it charlie and the chocolate factory and the other half call it willy wonka and the chocolate factory
I don't think the second one was even intended as a remake. It was just another movie of the same book. And from what I've heard its a bit more accurate, what with black oompas being creepy instead of cute. I haven't read the book though so I can't judge either for their credibility to their source
I much prefer the new one though. I couldn't stand the kiddie-ness of the original. Even when I was a kid. That movie upset me for some reason. It was just too BLAH!
It was like it couldn't make up its mind, too. Whether it wanted to be creepy, childish, stupid, or boring
The new one just sorta veered everything toward creepiness. And I think it worked out. I like the creepiness

I agree wholeheartedly and quite fervently so. The original Willy Wonka movie is one of my all-time favorite movies; I hated the remake. The creepiness of Gene Wilder is what made the movie so great in my eyes.

Heeeee, don't you know it. They had the old one on, which of course I watched, but I had to change the channel as soon as the new version came on. xD

And yes Gene Wilder was perfect for the part Johnny Depp seemed like he wanted them all to DIE!

The old one is great, but the new one is more like the book which makes it also great.

I seem to be part of the minority here. I like the new movie better. At least this time they actually got the name right! :holmes:
But, I don't deny that Johnny Depp's Wonka is horribly creepy. Although, that's why I liked the character. Creepy in just the right way. xD
Gene Wilder is not creepy in the right way. :(
I can't watch Johnny Depp's portrayal of Wonka without feeling like Tim Burton is in front of me, jumping up and down crashing cymbals together and yelling "I'm Tim Burton! This is a Tim Burton movie!!!" Wilder seems to me very much like the Willy Wonka from the book, so I prefer his performance.

Look man I can't be there to save you every time you fail at life. This is your own fault. Wallow in your own failure, Deppfag.

Bwhahhaah. xD I felt much the same. I mean, I like his movies, but this one was just... over the top.

Yeah, this is why I didn't like the new one.
Plus, I love Gene Wilder for all the other stuff he's done.
I love the old Wonka, wasn't a fan of the new portrayal at all.

Do you know why the old Wonka's better? The flips when he's first shown. I love that bit. It shows that Willy Wonka is a big liar and can't be trusted.

I have never seen the original movie, but I liked Johnny Depp's interpretation a lot. Sure he's kinda creepy, but in a good and peculiar way.

As much as I loved Wilder's version, I still wanted to keep an open mind when I saw the Depp version. Unfortunately I didn't like the new take on it. Although I have to give Johnny Depp credit; he's willing to take risks with his characters. It was just a miscalculation this time.
