View Full Version : First Official EoFF Mornington Crescent Competition

Welcome all to what is undoubtedly a momentous occasion in the history of these fine forums. We will get under way shortly but first of all I'd like to make a few announcements:

* Firstly as a result of Boris Johnson's ban of alcohol on London public transport, the old Southwark-Kenton feint is not possible any longer. Anyone attempting to use this strategy will find themselves without an Oyster Card and will have to miss a go until they roll a seven.

* Also important to note is that due to technical and logistical shortcomings, we will be unable to play geographical Mornington Crescent. I realise that some of you may have already booked tickets and be patiently waiting at Euston Station, but I did put up notices all around North Wales and it's not my fault you missed them. As a result, we'll be playing from the comfort of our own sofas or - indeed - office chairs.

* Aces are high. Hats are tipped. Soda is on the rocks.

* Because qwertyxsora is competing, I thought I'd give one of the new contenders a boost by declaring Green Mornington Crescent. This means that pedestrian precincts count double and that bus lanes are wild.

* Circle Line is considered the Fairway for the purposes of the first five moves.

* Might be worth making your moves in bold just to make the game a little less complicated. I know that it seems ridiculous to make the game any simpler than it already is, but y'know.

* One final plea: Please stay within the spirit of the game. We don't want a repeat of those disasterous events in Bath back in '09.

Our contenders are as follows:

1. Heath (also Chair)
2. Psychotic
3. Levian
4. DK
5. Denmark
6. Old Manus
7. Jojee
8. I Took the Red Pill
9. leader of mortals
10. I Don't Need A Name
11. Big D
12. Bahamut2000X
13. Jessweeee♪
14. qwertyxsora
15. Goldenboko
16. Shauna
17. Cz
18. Death By Moogles

I've attached some reading materials to help you along. And while I'm here, I'll kick the game off:

Going to make my START at Heron Quays with the move to Canary Wharf. Target? Shepherd's Bush.

That's right you sons of bitches. You're about to witness a textbook "Two birds in the bush" move.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's brained just imploded from confusion.

I must say I feel oh so British now. :monster:

I think I'll wait to attempt anything till someone more experienced does something I can follow. :p

Right then, if that's the case my START will be at Waterloo, right next to that most famous Big Wheel the London Eye. Moving up to Embankment with a view to end up in South Harrow. Oh yeah thats right bitch, I'm going to take your little bush move and dump it into your pigs pile of compost with the fabled "Wheel-Harrow". Now what? Huh? Huh?

Heath
07-22-2008, 08:52 PM
You know I had a perfect strategy worked out until you changed that. I'd normally insist on you being forced into Shade, but I'll let it pass this once.

Since you've gone to Shepherd's Bush, the only move I can make is Gospel Oak - via Bank.

I usually like a little seclusion at the start so I can develop a solid Rooking Line a little later in the game. I usually don't straight up give my strategy away, but as I'm sure most of you are amateurs, I don't think it'll be much of a problem. START at Ickenham , MOVE to Ruislip. FORTIFY.

Psychotic
07-22-2008, 09:04 PM
For the opener, look at the pinner and choose a start station and where you want to move to (it must be next to it) from there. You can state a further destination if you so wish, which you will gain bonuses for reaching. Simple!

I'll start at Earl's Court and move my way up to Gloucester Road and I'll just Wait.

That work for a move? =P

And Gloucester Road, eh B2KX? Interesting. We'll see where you're going with this one.

No, my brain just exploded too. WTF can someone explain that whole post and the game in American English?

Why the hell are all of you people moving?

07-22-2008, 09:40 PM
Just do what Shauna does and you'll be fine, Sephy.

Jojee
07-22-2008, 09:44 PM
Well maybe I could get a better idea of strategy so I don't get eliminated/killed/run over/whatever happens in this game right away if I could actually find any of these places people are moving to and from xD I just found Psy's place and it took me literally 10 minutes to do that!

Shauna
07-22-2008, 09:44 PM

You can't start at Mornington Crescent. Try again!

Jojee
07-22-2008, 10:00 PM
Can I start at Eluston and move to Mornington Crescent? ;)

I like the place! Anything that's the name of the game can't be bad.

Oh, and I *can* do soda on the rocks? xD

DK
07-22-2008, 10:02 PM
You can only do Soda on the Rocks every 3 turns though. The toilets in the underground system are in such <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> state going in more often than necessary would result in health complications.

You can't do that LoM. That doesn't follow the Winston Churchill rules :O

DK
07-22-2008, 10:54 PM
No Sephy, the Churchill rules don't come into effect until the 40th turn and then they last for 5 rounds, when they stop again until turns 51-55. Get your facts straight, darlin'

Jojee
07-22-2008, 10:55 PM

I still maintain that that's a terrible move though. You should consider changing, LoM.

07-22-2008, 11:19 PM
If he's moving to West Ham, then it opens right up for me to jump into Heathrow Terminal 4. King me. It also lets me invoke Brunel's Fifth Variation which means that no one can move to any station beginning with the letter R during the next four moves after this one.

Jojee
07-22-2008, 11:21 PM
No way, you're moving too early. >:\ At least 9 people haven't made their moves yet.

Heath
07-22-2008, 11:23 PM

Jojee
07-22-2008, 11:25 PM

Seeing as I'm a veteran of this game I'll handicap myself a little by starting at a Third Tier Interchange, Stockwell. I shan't stoop to gamesmanship and box Heath into Zone 3, but I will move to Bayswater (District Line, not Central) in order to prevent him from sweeping the West. And since it's Off Peak, I can do so without forfeiting my No-Change Bonus.

Oh Cz dear, not so much the veteran as you'd think. Stockwell to Bayswater via the District line is 11 moves. Kensington rule. It's the 23rd of July today, which is a prime number. On prime number days, your total movement can't equal a prime number, which 11 clearly is. Bet you wish you'd have taken the Central route now huh?

I'm gonna move on down to Gloucester Road

Old Manus

And with that done, I'm going to put three red tokens onto Canonbury and one purple token onto Bethnal Green. Just in case.

Since all you damn Brits had to start this on a Wednesday rather than a weekend when I'd be able to focus on this more. It's already hard enough finding all these damn places you fools are choosing.

Heath
07-25-2008, 07:25 PM
I'm going to use one of my frequent flyer miles and go from Heathrow Terminal 4 down to Canning Town via London City Airport. As a result of that, I must hand over two green tokens to the next person who uses the Dockland's Light Railway (DLR).

Psychotic
07-25-2008, 07:48 PM
I have decided that in order to establish a foothold into the direct and circle lines, I must launch a direct assault upon the two Tower stations.

Using my bonus points and unspent Orange tokens, I have purchased seven thousand melee soldiers, and a further two thousand archers. In addition to this, using the Dean Holdsworth Rule of Siege Warfafe, I have spent money on my siege engines thusly:

Sixpence on a battering ram.
Nine shillings on five catapults.
A crown on two siege towers.

The hero units will be as follows:
General: Psychotic.
Captains: Mr Motivator (Morale bonus +6) and Pat Sharp (style bonus +2)

They will be assembled in such a manner:

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/photobucketamazingness/STERTLESIEGEYEEEHAW.jpg

Green are foot soldiers (divided into 7 batallions numbering 1,000 each) red are siege towers, blue is my battering ram, catapults are white and archers are pink because they are pussies.

The plan is for an initial bombardment upon the walls by the catapults, which will be loaded with both heavy rocks and Vanessa Feltz clones. Archers will also give the wall defenders a good solid peppering. Upon running out of ammunition, the lackeys will then push forward the siege towers and ram the gates with the battering ram. If they get tired, Mr. Motivator will pump them up to the next level.

Some battalions will storm the walls and secure the escalators of the station. Meanwhile, once the gatehouse is breached, other soldiers will quickly move in to pillage the enemy's ticket dispensers. If it is one of those poncey fancy stations with a gift shop, their supply of gritty spy novels and yucky romance novels will all be burned. Come on. We don't need that.

With the Gateway taken, we will clamber Tower Hill, there to duel with the evil Count R.L. Stine and raise our banner high over the ramparts. The Two Towers will be claimed as dominions of the People's Republic of John Barnes.

I expect some casualties, although not heavy. Their sacrifice in the name of freedom will not be forgotten.

I Don't Need A Name
07-25-2008, 07:58 PM
I take travel to Embankment, picking up a large army of disgruntled tube riders, and then use my Purple Tokens to buy armaments and a canon.
we then commit a flanking movement on Psychotics army

Psychotic
07-25-2008, 08:01 PM
Hold up a second! You can't move from Tottenham Court Road to Embankment because of Toby Anstis's fifth law of dynamic rail movement. You can't move sequentially to adjacent stations on the Bakerloo line. It just cannot be done! Andy, are you trying to pull a fast one?

I move from Parson's Green to Fulham Broadway.

I also scoff at Psychotic's elaborate defences, since British Rail would not allow such armed silliness on their platforms. Also, the kiosk could never serve enough tea to keep the soldiers happy, and mutiny or desertion would break out within hours.

Heath
07-27-2008, 10:14 PM
Incidentally, I can pull something special. I'm going to invoke Tobermory's Strategem:

Players can rush the opponent by calling the same destination immediately after them - the Cross Blocker - and then sending them to the nearest free base, usually Ongar, from where they cannot expect to make a winning strike in less than four moves. King’s Cross is wild.

Old Street.

Cz will now find himself stuck at Grange Hill. Unless he manages to push the headmaster in the pool, I should be able to stop him from winning in the near future.

On my walk I find a small metal ball. I carry it with me and upon reaching Willsdale Junction I drop it causing the train to be jammed, shutting down the entire National Rail and Backerloo lines for two days. I pay 3 Yellow Tokens that I found in a bush as payment, and decide to walk again to Warwick Avenue.

I hope that eveyone paid attention to the votes because it'll have such an obvious effect on the game. In light of the vote, I'm having to rethink my strategy a bit. Who would've imagined that the Glasgow East rules would've come in? I've just had a 22.5% swing to the Bakerloo Line.

In accordance with London Transport Regulation 156b (Schottenheimer's Rule), all those who achieved the 5% voting threshold must return to their constituencies to collect their deposits within the next seven turns. Of course, if you've been planning ahead like I have, this ought not to pose too many difficulties.

I didn't want to have to do this but you forced my hand. Time to invoke Frank West's Ninth rule of resurrection.

Psychotic and scrumpleberry drive up to Mornington Crescent in their fancy white Cadillac, but halfway there...
"Honestly, we're out gas! :D" says Paul.
"So...what are we going to do now...?" asks scrumpleberry. The two decide to walk. "I'm sorry I didn't believe you." apologises scrumpleberry.
"Can I ask you something?" says Paul, ignoring scrumpleberry's apology.
"What?"
"You know I like you, don't you?"
"Yes."
"And I hope you like me the way I like you."
"Yes."
"I was wondering if you would be my girl."
"Oh Paul." :lovers: With an embrace and a bit of giggling, Paul puts a ring on scrumpleberry's finger. "It's beautiful", she says, admiring her beloved's gift.
"Now it's official" says Paul, grinning, before getting serious. "I have something I wanna tell ya."
"Yes, Paul?"
"I'm not like other guys."
"Of course not. That's why I love you."
"No, I mean I'm different."
"What are you talking about?"

This is where it gets a little bit hazy. See the moon comes up and I transform into, for a lack of a better word, a furry. And scrumpleberry, well, she just can't stop god damn screaming. And I swear she feels her breast at one point too.

So she runs and I pop out (and switch into first person seamlessly) every now and then, roaring like a badman. Then I gobble her up whole. THEN IT TURNS OUT IT WAS ALL A MOVIE LOL HA HA HA I'M NOT REALLY A WEREWOLF. scrumpleberry runs out because she is a pussy and I act like a condescending prick. Possibly because of the shiny red get up I have on. Who knows.

Anyway we walk home and I serenade her but I am obviously trying to get into her knickers and she is eating it up. I don't know why me talking about evil cinema beasts arouses her but hey I aint complainin', I'm a playah.

But I have a surprise for scrumpleberry. Oh yes I do. You see, she thought she had killed me. And she was right. I brought along a gang of my undead brethren for a bit of a boogie. So we dance. Oh how we dance. To a funky 80's beat. And we break into miss berry's house and...we eat her. Yes. That's what we do. I'm retconning this crap.

Then Andy and Dale try to get into Mornington Crescent. Well try to get into a station guarded by an army of zombies. It's not the mall or creepy abandoned mansion house that we're used to, but now that we're here, you'd better turn back, or else your brains shall be devoured.

YouTube has a dramatisation of the events I just described. I suggest you check it out! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtyJbIOZjS8)

Honey you're not being rezzed now whether you want to or not.

I skip back to the cadillac quickly - not because I'm a pussy, but because in a stroke of genius I recall that lychees make an excellent emergency fuel. I drive off into the distance, leaving zombie!Psy in a cloud of city grime and dust, and make my way back to Bethnal Green, as roadworks close off the way to Mornington Crescent. I throw the ring over my shoulder as I do so - I'm sorry Psy, but no matter how much of an ass-kicking zombie you are, you're still blond.
