Those weapons are tools, designed to carve Nethicite, so it's to be expected that they won't be as powerful as weapons that are intended for combat and nothing else...
I found the Sword of Kings fairly useful the first time I got it, since it was relatively powerful compared to the rest of my arsenal at the time. However, I never use it in my newer games.
I don't recall exactly, but it stands to reason that both the Occurian swords will be gone from your inventory after the incident withe Sun-Cryst.

I thought they'd be pretty strong weapons as well, given that they were made by the Gods and that if they were able to carve Nethicite, then armour and scales would be no problem at all.

Would it be better to give you the best weapons in the middle of the game? Even at the end if you get one of the best weapons (orlandu) then it ruins what you've done or what you will do. Now if anything they could have had power ups later on to make them good.

I did not think they'd be mega powerful, but powerful enough to be a few attack powers more than the rest of the inventory. I mean come on, it IS a great sword.

You never lose the Treaty Blade but you lose the Sword of Kings when Reddas uses it to destroy the Sun-Cryst.
I don't get why they're not very powerful either. My guess is that the blades are enchanted, which allows them to destroy/cut Nethicite, rather than their attack power.

You never lose the Treaty Blade but you lose the Sword of Kings when Reddas uses it to destroy the Sun-Cryst.
That is probably the best scene in the game.
It doesn't really make sense that something that can cut through Nethicite, which nothing else can, can not chop someone in half with equal ease.
It is a let down, and it would seem that the developers didn't think it through. Just like when they thought that having 10 hours between any story would be a good idea (Sandsea/Trip to Archades/etc). Or that Vaan should be the main character.
Let me stop before this becomes a full on rant about XII.

Or that Vaan should be the main character.
Vaan's not the main character though... The developers said they wrote it to have no main lead.
