Amazing that this great thread was made. In the past few days all I can think about is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I had the Xbox 360 version of the game last fall. I thought it was great and played 10 hours of it. Then I got rid of it since I didn't have time to play it. Now that I've cut back on the number of games I'm playing, I have time to get this game. I will upgrade my computer and buy this game in a couple months.
The game is legendary!

Just watch the last link(and the next ones in the series), to see the game being played through, with funny commentary! I want to get the pc version and play 300 hours of the game!
Please answer me these questions...
1. How many hours does it take to complete all random dungeons in the world?
2. How many hours does it take to beat all the Guild/Faction stuff?
3. How many hours long is finishing the Arena?
4. How many hours long is those random quests you get?
In order to finish Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and The Shivering Isles with 100% completion rate, does it take 450 hours? :)

Have it for X360, I love it when I'm playing it, but I find it hard to actually motivate myself to start it up. I have no idea why that is, maybe because it's such a huge world with so many things to do, it's a little overwhelming.

Illusions; it's a small, closed-off world with alot of dungeons and side-quests such as: "Talk to the whole population in the town and find out who is the murderer," or "Find me _____ item/room/person."
All it is; is Diablo with better graphics. :-/

They are not random dungeons, but there is alot of them.
It'll take alot of time to do them all(Few days, maybe). There is alot of Side-quests, but only few of them are worth doing in my opinion.
All you really going to get from Dungeons is either:
A) An Easter Egg
B) Boss Battle

Hehe, I thought Gothic had higher reviews, but I see only a 63% average critical review score. I also see a 65% for the pc version of Two Worlds. 82% for Neverwinter Nights 2. Also a 81% for The Witcher. I expect higher reviews for Fallout 3 and Fable 2.
:)!

I'm approaching 100 hours with my Dark Elf (skin dropped to pitch-black, and hair as white as snow like Drow SHOULD have) and her name's Liriel. 2-points to the first person who can guess where I got the name from. :) Anyways, it's been a while since I've actually played the game, but here's what I've completed, off-hand:
-Mages Guild: Archmage
-Fighters Guild: Guild Master
-Dark Brotherhood: Listener
-Arena: Grand Champion
-I've closed 2 Oblivion gates
-Athletics: Expert (75+)
-Acrobatics: Master (100)
-Sneak: Master (100)
-a bunch of other skills in the Journeyman/Expert levels...
The Mages Guild is the most time-consuming to get through, simply because of the Recommendations you need to get from each of the guild halls in each town. For my relatively high Athletics skill, I made a ring that allowed me to breathe under-water, swam out to the far south of the map and left it swimming for a few hours. I tried to limit my progress to 5 levels per day because it does take a LONG time to increase your athletics. Sneak was the easiest and quickest to get to 100, and I had it before I left the beginning dungeon. Acrobatics was another easy one at that low-ceiling Inn in Bravil.
Oh, and this is with NO mods, NO cheating, and is the PC version...

4. Arena
5. All quests
6. Knights of the Nine
7. The Shivering Isles

I've spent many, many hours on Oblivion, and I don't doubt there will be many more. I have GotY edition for PS3, so no mods for me (I just bought Morrowind for PC, though, so I can download some mods there).
I've finished the main quest, gotten to the top of all the major guilds and have done about 120 quests (all of this in two files, though, so it's a bit difficult to get an exact number of the quests I've done).
I've also bought three houses and have bought just about one horse from every stable (they keep dying on me), and am at level 30-something with my main save. I have no ambition about doing absolutely everything in the game, but I will keep playing and see how far I can go.

How many hours for a 100% completion rate on Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and The Shivering Isles, 450 hours?
I need more money, to upgrade my pc, and buy this game!
Eh, Fallout 3 I'm getting more interested in now. It's a first person rpg in a huge world which is very open ended and non-linear, and it is from the same development team as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's got a different story and setting though, and the battle system is closer to a 1st/3rd person shooter, but that's still great though.
I'll probably end up buying Fallout 3. I'm at a super exciting stage in my life, my first time really playing Western rpg's. How could I have missed out on all these great games all these years?! I like these dark tones and mature storylines.
Who is really interested in Oblivion and is going to buy Fallout 3? For those people, who of you are going to buy Fable 2? :choc2:?!

I recently bought this game for the 360, and it rocks.
So far, I've escaped the prison. That's the only main storyline I've done. Besides that, I've completed the Dark Brotherhood and Fighters' Guild questlines. I'm now working on the Mage's Guild. I wish I'd saved the DB line till last, because it's a great little story. Oh well.
Dragonsoul: I'm definitely buying Fable 2. Can't wait! :D

I'm considering Fable 2 but I don't know because I'd probably buy Fallout 3 instead.
I want to finish FF I(PSP) and FF Tactics A2(DS) by late September. Then in October I can have my computer upgraded and buy The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Mass Effect at the same time. I'll play both of those at the same time and hope to play a lot of Mass Effect and beat it by the time Fallout 3 comes out in early-mid November I think. Then I can buy Fallout 3 and play it at the same time as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I'll be playing these games for a while, and eventually add Starcraft 2 and Final Fantasy XIII in 2009. I've decided to beat only the best new games(2006 and newer), this frees my time up to play the best new games. Look at my playlist for my upcoming games, they are all blockbuster! ...
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Mass Effect
Fallout 3(???)
Starcraft 2
Final Fantasy XIII
...those are huge games! :) I wonder if Fallout 3 will be better than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? I don't think so, since I love The Elder Scrolls storyline and setting, plus the battle system seems more interesting. I don't like shooter type battle systems as much.
I been researching Fallout 3 today, I watched all the trailers on Gametrailers.com, I'm getting a bit more interested in it. The trailers show the character walking around and battling. I want to see story gameplay and footage of the character talking to people and picking up stuff. :choc:!

Nope...a HINT: it's not from a video-game.

This game is like FF8 in that the game gets harder the higher your level gets. I'd suggest doing the Main Quest before you get too high. Being a Master of Sneak at such a low-level is fun, and it gives you the extra edge. In the first gate, at Kvatch, I was killing scamps with my bow, in plain view, and they never detected me long enough to locate me. All critical-damage shots ftw!
Although, unlike FF8, you do need to level-up to be able to use some of the more powerful spells and enchantments. Although, during the end of the Fighters' Guild quests, I managed to get a full-set of Blackwood Company armor, which is insane-quality armor for low-levels, and I enchanted everything but the gauntlets with 7% Shield...I enchanted the Gauntlets with strength and endurance(i think) bonuses. The enchantment decreases the durability, but my defense rating is at 85...LOL...oh yeah, speaking of armor, I remembered I'm also a Master of Light Armor and a Master of Heavy Armor too...and I think I'm an Expert Armorer as well so repairing the armor really isn't a problem as long as i can get out of hostile areas long enough to repair it.
[edit] y'know what, i'm just gonna load it up and see exactly what i have in terms of skills...

Great pics! Thanks for the tip about the iso.
Last night I bought on Amazon.com The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(PC, Collectors Edition) and the Game of the Year version of the strategy guide. My pc can't run this game but I'm upgrading my pc now and should have it ready for the game by late September at the earliest if things go well. I'll be able to read the game manual and the special features and the strategy guide, this is great! I'll buy the Game of the Year version of the game in late September, it's the complete version. I'll just use this version of the game for the bonus features it has I think.
I'm upgrading my pc, I'm going to get a Ati Radeon HD 4850 video card, and possibly later add another one, using Crossfire X. All my other pc parts will be the same quality level, and I'll be getting a near top of the line Ati Phenom cpu.
What's your reaction to this? :choc2:?!

Personally, I'm an nVidia guy...I haven't used anything else since my first 3d-vid card (which was ATI)...From the sounds of things though, since AMD bought-out ATI, it seems like the quality of vid-cards coming from ATI is improving so who knows...I personally have no use for and no desire to run a Quad-Core...which is why I bought the X2 6400+...I usually don't have anything more than 2 memory-hungry programs running at once...the Quad-Core is more for REAL multitaskers...not to mention there are still plenty of games/progs out there that still don't support multi-core CPU's...if you're just building the PC for gaming, I'd say either stick with X2's or maybe even spend a few extra bucks for the FX dual-cores (maybe get a mo'bo' that can support Quad-Cores for future upgrades)...get the fastest memory that your motherboard can handle, preferably dual-channel as well. And if you're contemplating going to SLI/Crossfire, make absolutely sure your motherboard has TWO 16x PCI-E slots...a lot of them still have the 16x/4x configuration or other variations on the 2nd PCI-E...the last (and most important) thing you'll really need to look into, is how you're going to cool the system...the CPU and the vid card(s) do run hotter...I have to open nVidia Control Panel everytime I turn on my computer to turn up the fans on my vid cards just to keep them down around 60 degrees C (under load). They run a few degrees cooler now since I now have seven 120mm case fans sucking-in and blowing-out air, but I'm still looking to replace the stock fans on the 8800's but i gotta make sure the fan(s) will fit an SLI application.
One last thing on the CPU, if you're going to be using this computer for ANY heavy-duty emulation (ie. PS2), I'd actually suggest you look into Intel CPUs, because of SSSE3. All I know about it is that it really helps with the framerate. And since AMD stormed onto the scene, Intel has improved the efficiency of their CPUs significantly, so unless you're brand loyal, there's no reason to ignore them.

I found the main quest in Oblivion to be very short, probably because I am used to FF-games. ;) I didn't mind at all, though, as evey guild is almost like a small story within itself, not to mention all the independent quests there are as well.

I think Elder Scrolls Oblivian is great. It takes all the things that most people like about MMO's (exploring new worlds and doing quests) and eliminates all the things a lot of people don't like about MMO's (constant random battles and having to spend 50 hours leveling up before you are able to go 10 minutes away from your home base).

Today I got in the mail the Game of the Year edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion strategy guide. I read it for 90 minutes! I love it!
I'm worried though that when Fallout 3 comes out I may not have time for it since I'll be playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Mass Effect! I wonder, plus I'm less interested in Fallout 3 than Oblivion.
Sometime from now to Friday I get in the mail The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(PC, Collectors Edition), this is great!
Peter Hines says that he and the development staff at Bethesda think that Fallout 3 is a better game than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion! What's your reaction? :choc2:?!

Just play them both to your leisure. If you don't like playing more than one game at a time just play one of them to your liking and then start playing the other when you either get done with it or bored with it.
One of the best things about the Elder Scrolls game is that it has alot of the same characteristics of online rpg's yet it doesn't have a monthly fee so you won't feel like you are wasting your money if you don't play it for awhile.

I'm thinking, maybe I'll delay Mass Effect but I'll probably just play 2 hours a day of Mass Effect so I can finish it before Fallout 3 comes out. Then it will be months of Oblivion and Fallout 3! But I still need to finish FF I and FF Tactics A2! :-D

This is so ultimate right now! I'm currently reading the Game of the Year edition of the strategy guide! I'm on the section for "Spellmaking and Enchanting"! I love the maps section.
There's good news for me today on the internet. A new Fallout 3 interview says that to get a 100% completion rate for the game should take about 100 hours. That's much lower than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which may be 250-300 hours? Plus there's more time for all the downloadable content and The Shivering Isles.
I don't have time for too many games that are super long. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Starcraft 2 I'll play for hundreds of hours but nearly 200 for Final Fantasy XIII, about 100 for Fallout 3, and nearly 50 for Mass Effect. I was getting scared that Fallout 3 would be too long. I'm interested in it but so far I'm not interested in having a super long game like that for Fallout 3 since I have The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion! :choc2:!!!
Atleast I got the strategy guide now. The game arrives Friday at the latest in the mail. :)

Today I got in the mail The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(PC, Collectors Edition)!!! This is so great!
It includes three items as bonus features...
1. Septim Coin
2. Pocket Guide to Oblivion(mini-book with info)
3. Dvd with bonus features(The Making of Oblivion documentary, E3 2005 trailer, screenshots, artwork)
The package itself is ultimate, it is wrapped in plastic and the actual package has like a cover and you take the package out of it, the main package folds out. There's the two dvd's(game disc, bonus features), the bonus stuff, good artwork on the packaging, game manual, map of Cyrodiil, and a registration card, and an advertisement for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on cellphones!
I have the strategy guide(Game of the Year edition) and it's huge!!!
I can't run Oblivion on my pc yet, too bad. I'm upgrading though.
Does anybody else here have the Collectors Edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? What do you think of it? :choc2:?!

Man, i have the collectors edition on Xbox. But i'm playing it on PS3 atm. It's fucked up three times now. :(
I'm a vampire so I decided to do the quest to cure myself of it. After getting all the items, the witch that creates the cure wont accept the final ingredient off me - Bloodgrass. I'm stuck being a vampire.
The second glitch happened when i was travelling underwater and found a door. I was low on oxygen and when i entered the other side i died. And as it autosaved there was nothing i could do.
The third time I exited a tower in the Imperial City and it just freezes on the load screen. And once again it autosaved locking me in this situation. I then had to revert back to a previous save where i was a couple levels lower and had a lot less cash. :(
Other than that, I love the game. For the record, i never experienced any annoyances like this on the xbox version.

For Western rpg's I'm thinking these are my choices for the different settings...
Medieval fantasy: The Elder Scrolls
Modern near future: Fallout
Sci-Fi future: Mass Effect
Have you tried the pc version? I suppose with patches, it'll have the least error. You going to buy Fallout 3? :choc2:?!

Almost done reading the manual. When I'm done I'll start reading "The Pocket Guide to Oblivion"!
I think what I'll do is play Fallout 3 but in a couple years when I fully finish Fallout 3. Both games are very similar and made by the same team and super super long. I don't want to play both simultaneously. What's your reaction to this? :choc2:?!
...
I'm upset that my pc can't run The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's taking a while for my pc to get upgraded and ready. What I may do tonight is watch some of my 12 disc dvd super set of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Lord of the Rings is similar to The Elder Scrolls.

I'm using the pc version and I'm trying to clarify the order of the pc releases, I think this is it...
PC Releases
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
!The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(Collectors Edition)
Downloadable content 1-7(over time)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of Nine(DLC8)(Also includes DLC 1-7)
Downloadable content 8
The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles(Also includes DLC 1-8)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles(Also includes DLC 1-8)(Another version also?)
!The Elder Scrolls IV: Game of the Year Edition(Includes Oblivion, DLC 1-8, and SI)
!Downloadable content 9(Fighter's Stronghold)
Knights of the Nine itself is more than a downloadable content and less than an expansion pack, it's unique. It's not actually downloadable content though. Knights of the Nine package for pc also came out in retail for, and included all the downloadable content with it(DLC 1-7). If you count Knights of the Nine as DLC 8, it also got out by itself for pc the following month, December 2006. Later Shivering Isles disc came out, including DLC 1-8(including Knights of the Nine)......but I think there was an error and a 2nd version came out for the disc possibly. Later Game of the Year version game out, including DLC 1-8(w/Knights of the Nine), and Shivering Isles. After this they released one more DLC, DLC 9(Fighter's Stronghold).
So if you want pc version, get the ones I put a ! before the name.
This is the listing of all the downloadable content...
DLC 0 - 02-xx-06 - Dashboard theme(s), 2 Picture packs, Trailer(2 versions, free/seperate?)(Xbox 360 only?)(02-22-06?)
DLC 1 - 04-03-06 - Horse Armor
DLC 2 - 04-17-06 - The Orrery
DLC 3 - 04-24-06 - Wizard's Tower
DLC 4 - 05-22-06 - Thieve's Den
DLC 5 - 06-14-06 - Mehrune's Razor
DLC 6 - 07-13-06 - The Vile Lair
DLC 7 - 08-31-06 - Spell Tomes
DLC 8 - 11-21-06 - Knights of the Nine(Retail)(Not DLC?)(Later 12-04-06 as PC Download)
DLC 9 - 10-15-07 - Fighter's Stronghold
DLC 0 came out for Xbox 360 Live only, not a pc download, and possibly not for pc. It included some stuff, but PC/PS 3 don't need the Dashboard theme, and the trailer came out on the collectors editon(PC, Xbox 360) also. I'm not sure if the picture packs came out elsewhere. Then we got DLC 1-7. Then DLC 8 Knights of the Nine, which came out in retail boxed form including DLC 1-7, but not sure if Knights of the Nine is actually considered DLC 8....possibly, can you download it by itself through Xbox 360 Live? A month later it came out as a pc download. And 10 months later we got DLC 9(Fighter's Stronhold), which wasn't in any retail form.
I hope that clears up some stuff, but this is all only for the pc version. Xbox 360 and PS 3 have their own information. :choc2:!!!
