View Full Version : My courses are scary~

I'm going to law school and was looking through my courses for the semester when I start. ^^ All of the 1L students have all their courses picked for them, so I don't actually get to do any choosing.

This is what courses I'll be taking:

Legal Writing and Analysis
Legal Research

Then three of the following:
Contracts
Property Law
Torts
Criminal Law
Constitutional Law
Civil Procedure

It looks really scary and I'm totally psyching myself out right now ;-; I heard that our ENTIRE grade is based on just one thing in these classes - the final exam. One thing = entire grade = NO PRESSURE. NONE AT ALL. Plus, 1L grades are so important, because your class rank in law school is like, what you live for or else you'll fail at life or something. At least job hunting, summer jobs, and internships.

What classes are you taking. :|

Constitutional Law is the only one of those courses I'd find interesting.

I'm taking East Asian Civilization 1A (basically Modern China), Medieval Europe 2A (High Middle Ages), and Medieval Scotland.

East Asian Civilization 1A (T, R 4-5)
Medieval Europe 2A (T, R, F 10-11)
Medieval Scottish History (T, R, F 3-4)

I'll be in class for 8 hours a week and get 15 hours of credit. Seriously.

ENG 290 - Fiction Workshop
ENG 410 - Old English Literature
MCY 131 - Introduction to Musicology
BIL 106 - Elementary Zoology
POL 212 - Introduction to World Politics

Note: despite its title, ENG 410 is actually learning the language Old English, not a class focusing on Old English texts.

As soon as I'm back on campus, I'm going to be dropping POL 212 and adding APY 204 - Linguistic Anthropology. My university doesn't offer a linguistics major (or alternatively a linguistics focus in the English department as other universities do) due to a lack of student interest. My English professor from last semester--who is the professor for the Old English class--told me to take APY 204 for an introduction to linguistics when I expressed an interest in the subject. He said if I'm still interested afterward, he'd teach me himself.

Fall:

History of Japan 1 (Basically early up to Tokugawa)
Second Level Japanese
Shakespeare
Space, Time & Matter

Winter

History of Japan 2 (Tokugawa to Present)
Second Level Japanese
Japanese Esoteric Buddhism
Japanese Religions
Theory of Religions

Might change my fall semester because I am thinking of up grading my East Asian Cultural Studies minor to a full blown East Asian Studies major. With the second language credit, all I need is three more classes, though two have to be higher level.

I'm taking...

Math 1103
Engl 1102
Classical Mythology
Linguistics
Geology

and I need a foreign language but neither of my first 2 choices are open. Maybe I'll just take Vietnamese...

If I could choose my classes, I would pick a lot of English classes and maybe a drama course or something. Maybe math if I was assured that I didn't have a <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> teacher that read everything out of the book instead of teaching anything.

My very least favorite class was cultural anthro; very interesting subject, not when taught by pretentious ladies~

My first semester of college is pretty easy thanks to AP credit.

Genetics
Intro To Profession - Biology - Basic freshman class they make us take. Not too excited about it :/
Intro. To Programming
Mind, Behavior, and Human Growth
Calculus 1

Calculus is my only "hard" class I guess. Hopefully it won't be too bad but its been awhile since I took a hardcore math class seeing as I took Statistics my senior year. I wanted to take Organic Chemistry but it didn't fit with calculus 1 and my advisor (and I agree) suggested I take easier classes first semester to ease into the new process of college life.

A lot of you seem to be into the humanities which surprises me :). You'd expect video game nerds to be more into the sciences and engineering majors/computer science. I've always enjoyed reading, but not writing. Always good for debate, though, those humanities classes.

Chemisty
Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, & Statistics
Spanish IV
