Seriously. Is there anyway to level in this game other then continually failing missions (which is quite a lame way for me to level :weep:). I'm very, very stuck on mission 9-2 (or 9-3 or something the one where you have to continually defeat the spawning Carbuncles, Diablos, and melee-thingys). Does anyone have a good strategy or esper lineup for this mission. (I've tried a few, I have basically all the Espers available, I just can't win.) My average level is about mid 40s, and I normally use Vaan, Llyud, Penelo, Kytes, and Balthier.

I was at least Level 49 to 55 when I did that one. I always used a party of this:
Basch (With Shining Ray)
Penelo (All Moves available)
Kytes (With Flare)
Filo/Lloyd (I don't know if Lloyd is forced to fight)
"Your Choice" (I choose Balthier)
Espers should be those with a type Majority. So say there were 3 melee types and 2 flying types. Have your rank 3 and two espers be flying to kill off the melee types (except make space for Carbuncle) and have the lower rank for the other TYPES, yes, still have the type which ain't strong against both, youd still want all three.
Of course, include elements as well.
With equipment, you should make sure to do the side quests as Most of the characters Best weapons and clothing are there. Crafting the best weapons you can with the best materials owes more attack power than the "Best weapons".
For the actual battle, I have no clue. Its been a while since I finished this game so, ask someone else that.

I have the strategy guide, here's their strategy for 9-3.
Use ranged units with large area attack abilities, of any element. Shiva is a good Rank III esper. Kytes is good with Blizzaga. Use a good balanced unit mix. Take control of both summon gates, then move to the sport in front of Feolthanos, finish them. Good luck! :)
After trying that strategy, I request that you watch this video please...

Golden, doing most side missions helped, as well as doing monster melees as well.

I haven't done that for a while but I remember Basch being useful all the way through.

I haven't got that far yet (I'm only on chapter 4 ;_; ) but doing monster melees for a few areas would probably help. That's what I plan to do when I need to level up.

I've done most of the side missions except a few which I just can't beat (Zalera :(). How do you do monster melees? I've done one before because it appeared on Tomaj's list but other then that I've never done them. :o

They make it sounds so easy. Shiva did work quite nicely but not enough to win :o
EDIT: You can fight enemies just by going back to old places... No wonder why I was constantly underleveled xD

Yeah Zerase was impossible, I don't know if I did her myself.
It was all the zombies she summoned.

I tried to distract the zombies and send in bombs like I did against Mydia but Zalera would instantly kill the bombs before they'd self-destruct :o

You do them by going to, say, Tormelados island, then go to any destination, once you get to the place ( like the shrine) tap the location and you can fight in monster, summoning and more.

Midlight's Deep is a very good place to level. However, its also kinda hard. But even if you lose, you still get great exp there.

It gets so annoying, especially when your travelling and there are no power sockets near by.

I had solved this issue, I have a car charger. I don't know where it is though. :weep:

Apparently if you turn the brightness setting on the DS right down it depletes slower.
But then I can barely see. :choc:

I'm completely stuck on 9-2 myself. I think it's 9-2, anyway. The one with Belias, Mateus and Chaos I think.
However, I found Zalera really easy. Although, it took me a good 45-60 minutes to finally do it, I never struggled with life, it was just the endless Zombies. As long as I dealt with them I survived and eventually I just sent Basch and Penelo over to Zalera and had Basch hack away while Penelo healed him. The others were killing Zombies with Carbuncles for healing and whenever they got a free moment, I had Kytes fire off Flare on Zalera.

With the Zalera mission, I recommend using Ultima as your rank III esper. It makes healing and attacking easier, as the zombies are weak to holy.
Hi, I need help with another mission but I didn't want to start a seperate thread. I can't beat mission 8-4, in the Feol Warren where you have to beat Chaos and then Mydia. I've leveled up like 10 levels so everyone is right around 55, but Mydia still decimates me within 30 seconds of engaging her. Everything else in this game is so easy but this is so ridiculously hard, and no faqs contain anything that's helped.
Please help me!! My party is Basch, Penelo, Fran, Balthier, and Ashe, with the gambits Shining Ray, Curaga, Ward of the Wood, Armor-piercing Shot, and Hastega, respectively. For Espers, I'm using Odin, Shivar, and Carbuncle. Help!!!

Don't send in your characters
throw bombs at mydia and have them self-destruct it works like a charm.

Take Fran out and use Kytes instead. Isn't he required for this fight though, it is his quickenoiong battle? Blizzaga is very useful for taking out groups of enemies. Also remember that Chaos is a flying type, so ranged attacks will work wonders.
Characters
Kytes (Blizzaga)
Penelo (Curaga)
Basch (Protectga)
Ashe (Hastega)
Any character, I used Llyud for his revive skill.
For Espers I recommend
Bomb
Carbuncle
Shivar
Mateus
A rank I esper of your choice,Sagahin works nicely.
As soon as the battle starts capture the summoning gate to the left by where Mydia later appears. This gate will be important once the battle begins. Once that is captured summon Mateus followed by more espers. Once your summonings are done proceed to the treasure and clear out the enemies on the left side of the area, also grabbing the treasure. Make sure you fortify your espers whenever you get the chance.
Make your way to the other side of the area, taking the summoning gate and hopefully not attracting chaos yet. Once the gate is yours, make sure you have many Carubuncle and Shivar, and open the attack with a Blizzaga from Kytes, while sending in Mateus to take Chaos's attacks. Keep a Gambit on Blizzaga, and have Kytes throw lots of spells to take groups while everyone else keep attacking Chaos, buffing when necessary. When Chaos finally falls, Kytes will recieve his quickening, Natures Wrath.
Mydia will apear on the left side of the area, and will summon more espers to fight you. Capture the final summoning gate and dispel your Shivars, as they will fall fast here. summon a lot of bombs in their place. Kill all the espers Mydia summons, but do not approach her yet, otherwise she will cause a lot of pain. Make you way to the summoning gate, and send in Matues and a horde of bombs at her, with the Caribuncle and Ranged characters at a range out of Mydia's reach, but still able to cause damage/heal.
As your bombs blow up in Mydia's face, she will attack Mateus, who will be constantly healed by your Carabuncle. If Mateus falls, resummon him from the gate, and whenever someone gets a quickening, use it Keep summoning bombs as they explode, so you are constantly blowing them up. Some enemies will respawn, so send Kytes and a few espers to get them before they cause too much trouble. Keep Mydia away from your main characters and she will fall eventually.
Ok, thanks for the advice- but I have a question: How are you supposed to so intricately control your espers in the heat of battle?!?! I know all about all the ways to control them...but it's so ridiculously hard. Won't Mydia come and attack my main party members if she's being attacked? It sounds so hard but I'm going to try. Thanks for the help!

Mydia has a range around her that she will not move until provoked.
Yes it is difficult, but it is very possible. Also some more advice, keep trying. You will get some experience even if you lose, so eventually you will level up. :p
Woo-hoo, it worked! Finally after 6 months of being stuck there I can move on with the game. Thanks!
