I don't quite understand everyone's views.

First of all, we can all agree that FFVII was a great game regardless of what trolls say. It was big, beautiful, emotional, and adventurous.

When I first beat the game a long time ago it was the first time that I'd ever seen a story end with such an open ended conclusion. I loved how Eaerisu's face was shown at the end, right after the lifestream magically appeared to save the world from Sephiroth's meteor. Even in death she was able to use her power to save the world. We can guess from the final scene after the credits that Cloud and co. lived the rest of their lives in peace and Nanaki grew to be 100s of years old and even had children of his own. As the camera rises above the edge of the cliff we see the ruins of midgar, technology succumbed to nature. Geese fly overhead. The world is safe. The cycle continues. Cloud and his friends are all mixed in with the lifestream now, part of this fresh world. After /everything/ this is what has come.

Years since then, I've enjoyed the games many times over. Then something happened. Square Enix realized that they had fanboys. They started producing things like Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and /everyone/ bought into it. Everyone was /so/ happy that they'd get a little more Final Fantasy VII. But these games aren't final fantasy vii. They're sarsaparillaty spinoffs with sarsaparillaty storylines. Advent Children did /not/ correspond with FFVIIs storyline. And to be honest, that doesn't bother me much. What really sucks is what a sarsaparillaty story it had. It was totally pointless and it didn't feel like ffvii it all. It was like a really lame chinese kung fu movie except with ffvii char faces pasted to everyone. =/

Crisis Core was the same, although I have to admit I loved the last scene. 8D

Dirge of Cerberus ... who the hell would even /want/ to play that.

And /now/! /NOW/, after all of these sarsaparillaty spinoffs (although I bet most of you guys loved them. I don't know how you could if you truely loved the original FFVII.) Everyone is asking for this /remake/. Are you all eyeless moneys? Why the /hell/ would you want something like that? You know what you're asking for?

"Hey SQUARE ENIX! Yeah, you! Hey that game you guys made like 10 years ago that everyone likes. Remake the game with good graphics! Yeah, change all the camera angles, make midgar bigger, give us really sarsaparillaty voice acting, and make sure the voices dont match the characters at all! While you're at it, change up the dialoge as much as you can! add some things to the story! Get new music! We dont want old stuff!"

Why the hell would any self respecting Final Fantasy VII fan want them to /remake/ a masterpiece? Would you ask for a remake of the mona lisa, or a remake of Spirted Away? No. Why? Because they're great the way they are. You know what I say? I say, smurf remakes! If you want a remake, prepare to be seriously dissapointed. If you're a real fan, you'll take Final Fantasy VII-the original game for PS1- and you'll cherish it for what it is. You won't ask for any sequels. You won't ask for any prequels. You won't ask for any remakes. Why? Because you don't need anything else besides the original masterpiece to make you feel the way you first did.

Seriously. Find a different game. Play it. Get over FFVII. I don't want to see it suffer any more than it has so far.

/Well..../

I certainly wasn't praying for a IV /remake/, but it certainly was a nice surprise. I thought the original game was fine, and it still is imo.

But, even though there still isn't a remake and that was only a /tech-demo/, people are still begging for a remake of VII. I doubt a remake of VII will make me like it anymore, but I'm sure that if enough people are willing to whine about and pay for a remake of VII, Square would be insane not to remake it.

Frankly, in all the remakes Square has done, they've tainted the original game in some way. Whether it be I's doubling bosses' HP or III's allowing bosses to attack more than once a round, or even IV's augments.

Re-releases are good enough in my opinion. Fixing bugs in a re-releases is necessary, but a remake /isn't./ I've been more satisfied with the GBA re-releases of IV-VI than I have with any of the overhauls of I-IV.

There's just something about playing with 16-bit (or in VII's case 32-bit) that is lost in a remake. It's called nostalgia. You'll never get enough //of// that from a remake than you would from a re-release, or the original.

Remakes seem to be used to get these /Generation Z-ers/ to play games that are less based on hype and flair and are more based on gameplay.

Remaking it will not ruin the original. You can still play that, it'll be available on the PSN as well. So what's the problem? I didn't bother reading the boring post because so many people keep coming up with lame opinions as such.

Also not everyone wants to relive the boring 8-bit, 16-bit or 32-bit era all the time, and just because someone loves FFVII doesn't mean they can't appreciate other great games new and old. It's not a matter of "FFVII is the only great game, remake it because I can't play anything else", it's more "FFVII is a great game, I'd love to see it become more immersive with newer technology". So not everyone is still hung up on playing the game for nostalgic reasons, they want to get more out of what is a world with heaps more potential than what they were able to fit in originally.

I don't know why people keep wittering on about the damned remake anyway, there hasn't actually been anything to support arguments that there will be one.
Besides I wouldn't want one anyway Square have milked the game dry.

Out of all the things I actually wouldn't mind from this series (yeah thats basically what they've turned a single video game into), I wouldn't mind a remake. The initial game's availability is becoming less, and less. And, I would probably enjoy going back and giving the whole thing another whirl if it had revamped graphics and new detail/dungeons. As long as they made the game significantly harder too xD

Having a different opinion then someone doesn't make you a troll.

But then you'd get people moaning about how the original was 'better' and nostalgic and crap like that.

You pretty much can't win. I feel sorry for SE, they have such a picky group of fans.

SE would make extreme amounts of money, people want the remake would be able to play it (and this would be a high amount), people who don't like it would be able to bitch (this would probably be a lower amount then the first group anyway). Everyone wins.

EDIT: When it really comes down to it though, availability is important. FFVII isn't really available outside of Ebay and Amazon now, and you know your just going to get ripped off there, if someone wants to try FFVII for $70 they may as well get a nice remade version for that price right?

I wouldn't mind a remake because it could be used to fix all of he problems the original version had and make it into the great game it's supposed to be.

Yes, because everyone who doesn't like Final Fantasy VII is obviously a troll. Go die in a fire.

I loved how Eaerisu's face was shown at the end, right after the lifestream magically appeared to save the world from Sephiroth's meteor.

And people call me a wapanese.

First and foremost, stop saying "sarsaparillaty". Not only do you say it five smurfing times, it isn't a word. When I googled it, the only result was this thread.

Second of all, as Rhody said, just because someone doesn't like FFVII doesn't make them a troll. And no, "we all" can't agree that FFVII was a great game regardless of what trolls say, because some people legitimately dislike it, like myself-- and I say it is flagrantly flawed game that gets WAY too much attention.

Also, not "/everyone/" bought into it. Plenty of people didn't.

Take your rants to /b/, please.

I'm not wapanese. I'm suck of people complaining about whether is Aeris or Aerith.

Sarsaparillaty is a filter on this website.

Anyone who doesn't like FFVII is a troll because they all go out of their way to point out what a horrible game it was.

Example:

Toastyfrog.com: Compendium of Useless Information : Games - Final Fantasy VII browse (http://www.gamespite.net/toastywiki/index.php/Games/FinalFantasyVII)

And, if you wanted the remake so you could play a /new/ game instead of the old FFVII, that beats the purpose of a /RE-make/. You should just play a new game.

And you guys are so stupid for bringing up nostalgia so much. Son of a bitch, shut up! Of course there is nostalgia in playing the old game. That is the /only/ reason people want a remake. Because of nostalgia.

And quit saying the only reason people think its such a great game is because of nostalgia. I played tons of games before I played FFVII and I don't feel the same way about them at all.

And /you/ Momiji. I'm sick of people bringing up that website like its some kind of god. Its a stupid message board with a bunch for 12 year old kids and porn. Quit acting like you're so great for knowing about it. Everyone knows about it. Its the stupidest website that ever existed. If you ever visit it, you're an idiot and you deserve to burn more than I do.

No. Someone makes a thread on I don't know uh, "Should Yuffie have a spinoff like Vincent."
I'm a member of this forum, therefore I have every right to respond and say 'No. Because ________.' I'm not going out of my way. I read a thread, I have an opinion on what I read, god dammit I intend on posting it.

Function:

Inflected Form(s):
re·made Listen to the pronunciation of remade \-ˈmād\; re·mak·ing
Date:

: to make anew or in a different form

No one has suggested to completely revamp everything about the old game, but new locations, clarifications, etc, etc, thats the entire point of a remake.

Anyway, I think you should calm down. People bring up what they think is a valid point, you don't need to go crazy because the view is different then yours. Lose the anger dude :sing:

Wow, flaming. How classy.

No, people who don't like FFVII are not trolls, and they don't go out of their way to point out how horrible the game was-- they're as entitled to their opinion as you are.

And I never brought up any website like it's a god. I only mentioned /b/ because that's where one-sided rants like that belong.

I hated VII. I don't start thread about how bad it is. When people ask for opinions, I give them. Stop generalizing/trolling.

Whoah, whoah. How does not liking a game make you a troll? Do you even know what a troll is? Not everybody who doesn't like a game romps around trying to bash FFVII. Basically, by what you just said, you could say that someone who doesn't like, say pizza, is a troll. Your logic is faulty and makes you look like an ignorant fool.

Yes, discussion is for trolls. If you don't want to accept that there are plenty of people out there who don't like the things you like, and that they have every bit as much of a right to say so as you do, you can get the hell off this website, because it's a FORUM, and that's what it's for.

More like what's the point of a remake if it's just going to be the exact same game you already played? So you can spend an extra $50-$60 on prettier graphics?

And you guys are so stupid for bringing up nostalgia so much. Son of a bitch, shut up! Of course there is nostalgia in playing the old game. That is the /only/ reason people want a remake. Because of nostalgia.

Or my reason, so they can actually do it right this time.

Because people can't have varying opinions about a game? FFVII isn't a perfect game, and compared to games today it's quite bad. The graphics have aged horribly, and the controls are clunky and tedious.
That said, it's surprising to me how so far SE has avoided releasing a FFVII remake. They've released so a handful of side games, but how they can't realize that and FFVII remake would sell like hotcakes (and probably convince quite a few people on the fence about purchasing a PS3) is beyond me.
