You should probably narrow down your search as asking for a game recommendation from the PS2 library opens you up to hundreds of choices.

I'm going to throw in a completely random one, Silent Hill 2. Good game.

Well, I would suggest the Disgaea series, Persona 3 FES as well... the Valkyrie Profile games are okay, and you should definitely get Tales of Symphonia if you don't already have it for GameCube.

I did narrow down my search I asked "Do you have any PS2 RPG recommendations for me?"

RPG stands for Role-Playing-Game you didn't know that did you? I don't care about games like Silent Hill 2 I just want more role playing games but I only want good role playing games.

Hahahaha Dreddz got pwnd :D

Final Fantasy X is definitely worth getting. X-2 probably is too. The Shadow Hearts games are quite great. Persona 3: FES is a correct recommendation as well. Suikoden III and, even more, Suikoden V. Rogue Galaxy is fun. The Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games are Roguelikes (Think Diablo), but they're awesome. Anything from NIS.

Don't be so aggressive towards Dreddz just because he fails :(.

Anyway, I'll recommend Persona 3: FES too, like several others did.

If you're already a fan of Suikoden you'll want to get IV just for completion's sake. If you're not already deeply into the series, and willing to forgive or overlook a pretty flawed game, steer well clear.

I'm not into KH or SO and I haven't tried SH, but FF XII was great. Try Final Fantasy X, and probably try FF X-2, although I haven't played it but people have mixed feelings about it.

Just get a great pc and buy The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion! :choc2:!!!

It wouldn't be the first time I bought a flawed RPG because I bought Okage: Shadow King and that game was god awful in my opinion.

Shadow King tried so hard to be funny but in the end it didn't make me laugh at all but Paper Mario 2 made me laugh my ass off.

I'm not saying that Suikoden is BAD, per se. I chose flawed specifically. There are significant flaws to the game, and you need a reason to overlook them. For a lot of longtime Suikoden fans, simply seeing more of the world is enough - seeing the plot through to completely suffices. That's why I say a fan of the series might find it better than someone who isn't, and why an uninducted person would be better off starting with III or V (Or if you can get them, I or II on the PSX).

Do I need Suikoden I & II to understand the plot in Suikoden III, IV and V?

No; the plots are all related, but it's not at all necessary to play any of them to understand any of the others.

Don't go off on someone just for misreading your dumb thread.

Final Fantasy X and X-2 (not so much X-2) are absolute must-have rpgs for PS2.

I didn't go off on him I just told him what an RPG was because I thought he didn't understand my thread and he got pissed off for some reason.

And my thread isn't dumb I just wanna know what PS2 RPGs are considered to be the best around here because IGN, X-Play and Gamespot reviews bore me to tears.

Disregard this, Okage is the single greatest RPG ever made ever. Ever.

Says who? Final Fantasy X was more fun than Okage even though Square Enix had horrible voice actors...By the way I hate Final Fantasy X-2 the way The Red Skull hates Captain America.

FFX, check.

FFX-2, the gameplay outweighs the plot flaws.

Suikoden III is nifty. Epic plot, although I found the guy tending the castle more interesting than the three main heroes. Two honorable villains worthy of Rubicant.

Suikoden IV is quite a change from the rest, especially in the way a boat becomes the home base instead of a castle. A lot of time spent traveling. I liked a lot of the characters, although a few are very hard to recruit without a guide. It's also one of the few Suikoden games where you can max most of the characters (leveling usually becomes ineffective above level 60).

Suikoden V is a return to the core values of the series. A lot of royal dynastical infighting and intrigue. Some very loveable secondary characters.

There are several others I recommend that date from the PSX console: Breath of Fire III, Dragon Warrior VII (although mastering is recommended only for the masochistic), Suikoden I & II.

Thanks for the advice but I'm still not buying Final Fantasy X-2 because like I said before I hate X-2 it's a crap sequel like KOTOR II.

I am a pretty big KH fan, so they are good games. So is SO3, though I have yet to beat it.

FFXII is a must. You will hear many fans argue either way for it. But despite its flaws, it is still a great game. By flaws, I do not mean that is really broken rather there were some area where they could have done better.

And Persona 3:FES is simply amazing. It is a must have for any JRPG fan.

Returning to FF. I suggest FFX if you have not played it yet. As well as FFX-2. Despite my feelings towards it from a simple philosophical point (just trying to milk money out of a strong fanbase with girls in skimpy dresses) there is still some value to be found in FFX-2. The Dresssphere system is quite interesting and the battle system is fun too, foreshadows what is to come in FFXII as far as battle mechanics are concern.

Since PS2 is backwards compatible with PS1, I'd go for Final Fantasy Tactics, unless you have a PSP then go for remake on the PSP. It is a great game, though it is an sRPG. Dunno how you feel about them.

Dark Cloud is fun too, though I have yet to finish it. I assume DC2 is good too, from what I hear they made good improvement on the first game.

If you like the battle system in SO3, then you will most probably like Rogue Galaxy as well. It is by the same developers as Dark Cloud 1&2. Sure, the dialogue kinda sucks but it is a good game.

If Okami were a RPG, I'd tell you to buy it without hesitation but it is not. Still worthwhile though.

Been playing Xenosaga Episode 1 lately. Mixed feelings about it but there seems to be a really deep plot to the whole series.

FF X and XII are both must-have games if you like FF at all. You could also take a look at LotR: The Third Age, which is basically a FF-X rip-off in LotR wrapping.

If you like mediveal rpgs, you could take a look at Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 + 2.

No. DA is a fun game. It's not trying to be Baldur's Gate, it's trying to be a Roguelike. And it succeeds.

If you can manage with tactical RPG's (well a light tactical, this ain't no FF: T deep tactical game) then I suggest Arc the Lad series. They have a nice slew of characters, and interesting world concept (modern world mixed with fantasy, magic, and kingdoms) and a lovely story. If you can shell out the cash and find the Arc the Lad collection you'll wind up with 2 awesome RPGs (Arc the Lad 2 and 3) and one ok RPG (Arc the Lad the First) plus there's a squeal to them on the PS2 (Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits) although their all continuity based you can still enjoy the games in any order, it just gives a lot of nostalgia feelings if you play it in order.

If you can deal with action RPG's then I suggest the .hack// series. Especially G.U. which did everything the first game series tried, and did it much better. It's a fairly fun game series, although each volume is a bit short if you play only for the story, but there's plenty of just random game things to do unrelated to story strewn about.

Oh and as was mentioned earlier, Threads of Fate....get it....nao!!!!

Persona 3 is far and away the best RPG on the PS2. Get the FES version, which is probably the only one you can get in stores right now.

Next to that, Dragon Quest VIII. And, if you're lucky enought to be able to read Japanese and/or have a Japanese PS2, Tales of Symphonia. If you don't have such luck, Tales of the Abyss is a worthy second choice.
