Fixed. This'd be my answer. Although to be honest, I couldn't stand the NES games until they were re-released.

IV- I might be biased here. It is my favorite one.

V- You have to finish this one first before you can judge it. I thought it was rather mediocre except for the job system. Upon completion and reflection, I couldn't have been more wrong.

II- This is another one that you have to play a few times. I had to beat this one twice to realize how great it is.

I- The original is great in a few ways. But a lot of things it's done were bettered in later entries (which should happen by the way)

III- This one was innovative, but terribly unbalanced. The DS version made me like this one even less. :(

Just a testament that these games are true gems, hard to rank, and what Final Fantasy truly is.

why does everyone put II so low on their lists? I happen to find it one of the most enjoyable of the bunch. I actually like the battle system even though magic leveling is tedious. I especially like the remake, it seems much more balanced. Anyone else here have a soft spot for II?

I put II in the middle. It's a good game, just not better than IV and V in my opinion. If we'd included all mainstream games, I'd rank it higher than the middle. :)

1. III (best FF ever, only IX comes even close to its greatness)
2. V
3. IV
4. I
5. II

I've played II on Dawn of Souls plenty of times and liked it. I don't hate the game at all, it's just I enjoyed the other 4 more. ^^"

Aah, a tough question. In the end, I have to say, I have no preference between the two, because both had some flaws and both had really great things about it. III on the NES was a classic I loved playing and in general there's nothing wrong with it for a NES game, but it's battles can be unforgiving and its job system is very unbalanced. III DS had a better balanced job system and made the very great improvement of giving us 4 different main characters. I'm a big fan of Luneth, Arc, Refia and Ingus. Also, the DS version made some major improvements for certain bosses. Like, the Final Boss no longer uses the same attack over and over. Also, some dungeons were very muchly improved, especially the final dungeons. And the music in the DS version is significantly upgraded as well.

Yet in the end, the DS version has flaws just as well. The limit of 3 enemies per battle is very bad and while the idea of mognet didn't struck me as bad, it was poorly worked out and made side-quests a disapointment. Also, the new main characters were not integrated enough in the story.

That's why I can't decide between the two. Was FF III NES a great game? You better believe it was. Was FF III DS a great game? Of course it was! And I don't understand the hate it gets. But in the end, there is no perfect version of III yet. III DS was a nice try, but in the end it received mixed reactions. For me, a perfect remake of FF III would be one that makes the people who played it say: "Damn, this IS a good game after all!"

Wish I could remake FF III to my tastes. Alas, I lack the power or the skill. Regardless, I'm sure that if I could do it, people in general would feel positive towards it.

So yeah, can't decide between III NES and III DS.

II is very enjoyable. However, I found other FFs to be better. But still, that doesnt mean I hate II ;)

All the lovey-dovey nostalgia in the world can't put FF1 above its first four sequels. Sorry.

Seriously... I can't do this. I cannot in good conscious rank these five specific games against each other cause they are all so damn awesome.

On any given day most of them tie in my list of favorite FFs and considering how often I started new files of newer titles and kept having the nagging feeling I should be playing II or III instead just shows me how much I loved these titles. Hell, I stopped playing Crisis Core so I could play the PSP version of FFI and I had more fun going through that game than CC or even Valkyrie Profile.

I'll be the first to say:

V
III
I
IV
II

V is my 2nd favorite overall.

II is the only ff I truly, severely, and very, very angrily hate. And no, not because it's "hard." Because it's frickin horrible.

4, 2, 3, 1, 5. The only version of 5 I have played is the Playstation version. That version has a bad translation and slow loads. Otherwise, I may rank it higher.

I'd have to put IV and V in a tie and the rest of them in a pile. xP

Despite Five basically being an updated version of Three, I had some good times with that game. Plus it had the Onion Kid. Everyone loves the Onion Kid.
