Dust off your Wii, it's time to watch a DVD - Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/13/dust-off-your-wii-its-time-to-watch-a-dvd/)

I'm not sure what to make of this, but it may be relevant to someone's interests here.

I already have DVD Players.

Edit: Let's pretend I never said that second part.

lol, thank you.

The DVD playback may not be that instrumental, but ability to play video files off the SD card is something I've personally found extremely useful on my ps3. now wii users can enjoy all their downloaded video torrents on their tvs. Depending on what codecs are supported, that is.

Yeah, the supported codecs are going to be what makes or breaks this.

My PS2 is still my DVD player. :p

mplayer supports like... everything natively. So no worries about that. As to how user-friendly the interface is, well, that's potentially an issue. Geexbox is okay but it's too wonky. I think Wii Media is probably going to come out to be the best of this, judging by the early featureset given by the developer.

DVD support isn't a big deal to me though tbh. Using the Wii as a media center for streaming off my PC/USB drive is pretty awesome though.

mplayer is perfectly user friendly if you don't expect to have a silly menu system
