View Full Version : Meet The Spartans is the worst film I have ever seen

My brother-in-law works in a rental shop, so when a rental copy they're not yet supposed to put on the shelves shows up, there's a chance I'll be around when they all sit and watch it.

Meet The Spartans was the newest addition to their collection and it is one of the weakest comedies I'd ever seen.

The pacing of the film was horrible; so many of the jokes were dragged out for far too long, particularly the death pit scene and the dance-off, then the much more entertaining gags just happened in the background (I actually found it hilarious when the camera quickly panned past a Spartan ironing his cloak). Some of the production-related jokes were fairly amusing; the bad guys bringing in a blue screen genuinely made me chuckle, but that was about it. Sections parodying the movie itself were also not that bad (but again, totally dragged out; how many people do we need to throw into the death pit?).

When it first came out, I remembered someone saying that the funniest part is where all the Spartans sing and dance to "I Will Survive", and when I read that remark I knew the movie was gonna be bloody disastrous.

The most pathetic thing is that the movie didn't even pass the ninety minute mark... all these opportunities for pop-culture references, parodying 300 itself and product placement and you can't even make your movie longer than what was it, 82 minutes?

What a terrible movie. I can't believe it got past the original pitch, I can't believe it wasn't pulled during production, and I can't believe they didn't start firing people when it entered post production... or did they?

Why would you WANT it to be longer? I'd think, with a movie that bad, the less of it there is, the better.

This is movie just sucked. Saw the whole thing and didn't laugh once, I didn't even pay to see it and it still pissed me off because it wasted time out of my life. Comedy movies aren't supposed to piss you off. I just feel sorry for all the people that paid ten dollars.

The most depressing thing about this is it grossed over $80 million US. They all do.

why would you even think it was going to be a good movie? xD

It's the same guys who did the Scary Movies, Date Movie, Epic Movie, and the upcoming Disaster Movie. What do you expect?

Scary Movie was the only movie I ever walked out on, it was that bad. Of course I had the sense to stay away from the rest of them.

Agreed. Worst, film, ever. The people who wanted to see it with me actually liked it. Me and my friend where like "omg wtf how? *loses faith in human kind*"

Not the worst movie ever, but not too damn far from it. Awful movie with any sense of humor or positive... anything.

Hahaha, that's an excellent point!

why would you even think it was going to be a good movie? xD

I didn't :p It was simply what was on and I feared the worst, but stared in perverse car-crash-theory fascination -_-

Movies like this are why I hate movies.

It bothers me that people think that movies like this are funny. Sorry, pop culture movies typically are poorly written and not funny at all.

I loved Scary Movie 3, disliked 2 intensley, thought the others were alright. Never saw Date Movie or Epic Movie, but I'm guessing they're pretty terrible :| Everyone hates Meet the Spartans, so I won't bother with it.

I actually though Scary Movie 2 was the only really funny one of the lot. :p

And I didn't mind Epic Movie, though I woldn't exactly go see it again.

Meet the Spartans had a few funny parts, but overall was a bad movie, I agree.

Yeah, gotta agree with this. Looked terrible just from looking at it and the reviewers tended to agree with that. I'm not averse to parodies (I adore Airplane!), I just like them done well.

I haven't seen it. I'm sure there's gonna be some parts that make me laugh a lot, but there'll also be parts that make me feel lame for watching xD

My brother and my cousin are like OMG OMG IT'S FUNNY YOU KNOW THEY MAKE FUN OF CHRIS CROCKER IN THERE, YOU SHOULD SEE IT

I like to think that Meet the Spartans is a parody of terrible parody movies. That way it's funny.

Yeah dude it's like not even worth analyzing why the jokes or plot or anything is bad. <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> is <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> is <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> with these movies. It makes me very upset that a) people continue to finance them and b) viewers continue to pay to watch them (thus giving incentives for financers to continue producing them).

I actually watched Epic Movie one night while I was drunk and very depressed.

It didn't help.

I never saw Meet the Spartans, but that's pretty much how I felt about every spoof movie I saw (except Sports Movie, that was actually kind of funny :p).

However no movie that I've seen has been as bad as Speed Racer. :p
