square enix has said his real name (or at least his real code name) will be weather related too. what do you guys think it might be? i'm hoping that it's anything but tempest...i'm writing a story with a character named tempest, and i don't want anyone thinking i ripped them off...

It could be anything really, I'm still trying to figure out why we haven't heard a name for him yet. He doesn't really look like a Tempest. Maybe Typhoon?

The blonde haired guy. Maybe Storm. Then together they can be a lightning storm :rolleyes2

I've never understood Square's obsession with weather.

Maybe Thunder. :P THUNDER AND LIGHTNING!

Tempestt is a girl's name. Haven't you ever watched The Cosby Show? :p

Yaridovich said Tempestt, not tempestt. ;)
Anyway, I think that his name is going to suck. They should call him Breeze or something really crappy. That would be fun.

How about Cloud? :choc:

It's hard coming up with something cool and original and still relate it to weather. Raindrop?

They should call him Dry Spell. No one would expect that.

I already said Cloud as a joke.
Maybe Gale, Storm, Rain, Rainjin(or was that Raijin?)...
but definatly not Windy or Misty!

Ouch!

Gale (various spellings) is an actual female name.

Rain might not be too bad if they spelled it as Rayne.

Is Squall an english word? 'Cause I hadn't heard it before FFVIII as a word for storm. It was always an indian term to me

Maybe we should be looking at other languages for words regarding weather

It is English, yes. It's not a commonly used term, though.

What's wrong with Mr. 33cm? He could be the first Final Fantasy character that does *ahem* films. :shifty:

Who decided to coin him Mr 33cm anyway?

touche. well, lightning already sucks. it sounds like the name of a horse for one of those old school singing cowboys. thank god it's only her code name. let's hope her real name is much less lame. as for who coined the name mr. 33cm, that's apparently the name that the team that's developing the game uses for him outside of the game, if that makes any sense...as a reference to his shoe size or whatever...

Or the size of his... ... ... ... pistol.

They should call him Dry Spell. No one would expect that.Drizzle would be nicely underwhelming too.

Apparently, "33 cm" is indeed the length of his shoe. I'm sure Square-Enix had no idea that it was going to lead to a slew of penis jokes.

I wonder if the US version will localise his name as "Mr 12.3 inches"?

That'd be a hella large foot. I think that'd be a 15 or 16 shoe size. :-/

yeah it's supposed to be an indicator of his large build.

Is there a "Drizz'l" in Final Fantasy I or is that just in 8-bit theater? :P

Typhoon seems plausible. I think this is the most likely.

Maybe Thunder. :P THUNDER AND LIGHTNING!

Or this. I can totally see it being something lame and cheezy like this.

Mr. 33cm just sounds funny, penis jokes aside. Then you add the penis jokes, and it's an endless source of hilarity.

Square-Enix said "He had a large Chest and big Feets"
I'd had to double check about the 33cm shoe size, it was stated during that interview, I just can't remember if it was Square-Enix who said that or the reporter.

a random ninja
09-03-2008, 07:12 AM
yes, i'm sure square had loads to say about his 'big feets.' oh, and yeah, even though mr. 33cm is the nickname the staff at square enix gave to the character, i'm sure it was the REPORTER who decided it was based on his shoe size. that makes perfect sense.

He does look like a Gale!

It's the best English weather-related name I could think of for him o.o

Gail = Female
Gale = Male

I know of a few from both genders :P

yeah, even if there are some male gales or gails out there, it just sounds too girly.
