I used to play this game all the time when I was a kid and I've been trying to dig it up as of late. Well, hoorah! Today you can get it for free (http://www.ea.com/redalert/news-detail.jsp?id=62).

Did you used to play RA? Have you continued to play C&C?

I really liked the soviet attack dogs.

I LOVED THIS GAME!

I used to do skirmishes all the time :p I didn't do many missions in the campaign.

The RA series of C&C is the only series of it I'll play. I love Allies v Soviets. Just can't get into GDI vs NOD and all this other rubbish.

I've never played before, so I guess I'll try it. Which do I get-- Soviet or Allied?

Soviet.

Being evil is far more fun.

I wonder if this version supports multiplayer over tcp/ip. I know it originally only supportet IPX or something networks, which only work locally.

Yeah, I used to play both RA and RA2. I'll see if I can get it to work on Vista.

Windows 95 Red Alert is one of the best games in history.

Man i'm a huuuge RTS junkie and C&C is probably my favorite. As far as the first Red Alert, I never really got into it as much as the other games. It is definately fun, a definate improvement using the Tiberium Dawn engine, although everything is pretty much the same...

That's cool it's free now, though.

Strangely enough I've never played a C&C game apart from spending about 4 minutes on my mate's Sega Saturn in 1997 wondering what the hell I was doing. Age of Empires represent!

give me C&C Generals and Zero Hour.

Although I could never get the damned final mission done for China ; ; and anyone who hasnt played Generals I HIGHLY recomend it, ESP the GLA toxic weaponry and mobs armed with AK47's there aint nothing that can stand up to a mob like these lol.

Will this actually work on Windows XP? I tried to install it a few years ago and it twined at me about how it needed to be on Windows version 4 (2000 and XP being version 5).

Either way I'm attempting a download now. I got FFVII running, how hard can this be...?

The key is to get your nuclear arsenal up and running as fast as possible. The only thing you should be doing after securing the base is securing resources in the town for as long as you can. You can't take the GLA base by force, and you really can't stand up to their forces/waves of reinforcements they keep sending. Well, you can do that last part, it just takes a lot of skill. But the mission itself is designed for you to blast them away with like 3-4 different nuclear silos built.

Yeah, Generals and ZH are probably my favorite RTS games of all time.

I used to play this. I didn't like the missions, but I liked the skirmish/multiplayer style. I like to play as Germany or Ukraine.

It was IPX, wasn't it? I wonder if there was TCP/IP support added. EoFF skirmish anyone? :)

I loved Red Alert and played it for hours on end many years ago.
