In light of the remakes thread ...

The Independent Gaming Source (www.tigsource.com) is currently running a "demakes" competition (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2376.0). Basically, the goal is to produce a old-generation remake of a modern-generation professional game. For instance:

Soundless Mountain II, a demake of Silent Hill 2

or Super 3D Portals 6, an atari-style demake of Portal.

Rupture, a demake of Bioshock

Fillauth, a demake of Fallout III.

The list goes on! Anyway, firstly, what is your opinion on this type of thing? Would you play a retro-nized version of a new game? Secondly, if you were to create one, which game would you choose?

I saw a screenshot of an 8-bit FFX once but could never find it, so I'm guessing it was fake/shopped. I would totally play it though.

It was real. It was made by some Japanese students, but I could never get the rom working because the website and instructions were all Japanese.

Screenshots / videos even show that it has the sphere grid. Pretty high tech, because I think they actually limited themselves to the processing power of the NES.

That was the first thing that came to mind. They did it with VII too. I'm strangely fascinated by the idea. Always have been. Not something I could personally compete in. But kudos to the people who do it

I decided to demake Mario Tennis. You can clearly see Yoshi on the left and Donkey Kong on the right.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f8/Pong.png

Wouldn't play one, it'd be a good thing to make to test out skillz imo, that's all ;)

I have a Demake of Mega Man 7 to turn it into a NES game. :P It's pretty neat.

The FFX NES remake only consisted of screenshots unfortunately. The ROM only allowed you to enter a cave and that's it.

I love the idea of doing these remakes on older consoles but none of them are full remakes where you can go from the start of the game to the end so I don't see the point.

Actually, the Silent Hill and the Bioshock demakes I posted about both plan to do just that as far as I know.

iirc The FFVII demake was "almost" the full game, almost meaning MOST story events (with the notable exceptions of Vincent and Yuffie who were both left out)
