View Full Version : Best Main Villain's Entrance

The Crystal

Think about the first time those villains appeared in the story, the first time you saw them on the screen. And answer this question: Who do you think have the best entrance in the story, and why?

It can be because it was a funny entrance, or a weird one, or because the villain was very mysterious, or intimidating, or badass, or whatever!

Go on, vote!

Garland's 'knock you down' was great for both comedic value and the amount of fear it inspired in me.

My immediate thought was Kuja, because very little is given away, the scenes in Burmecia are awesome and it really allowed him to remain a mystery until later in the game. Edea's was pretty nice as well, what with the creepy music in the background. Sin's total decimation of Zanarkand was pretty impressive the first time around when you don't expect it and still visually impressive now, but I don't think it really ranks that highly with me. Vayne's wasn't terribly spectacular, but served as a decent introduction to his character at least.

Thinking it through, I don't think any of the main villain entrances was as spectacular as they ought to be. I voted Kuja, because at least he had style. :p

Easily Kuja, out of the ones I have played. I mean, the party was lying at his feet, the music starts, and he just walks away with style, gets on his silver dragon and flies away. All in gorgeous FMV:

Yeah, so it doesn't count as an entrance.

@ sephiroth post.

I think Kuja made the best entrance as well.

It depends on what counts as the main entrance for Kefka. :P If it's the scene where Kefka arrives at Figaro Castle ("Ahem... there's SAND on my boots!") then Kefka. If it's Terra's flashback, then probably Kuja. Or maybe Vayne. It really sets the tone of the game during his opening speech where you can't tell if he's the bad guy or not. xP Of course, Sin DESTROYING A CITY was pretty badass.

It's hard to choose. xD

I think Sephiroth's introduction was handled quite well. The references to him and his power, and then you see him wipe out a dragon, while you deal it about 3 damage.

But Sin has probably got the most badass entrance. And I think the best.

"I'm baaaaack. Miss me, Galuf?"

I loved X-Death's, he was such a cliche RPG villain and he did it perfectly bossed up in control, "Fools!!!" being my tribute to him under my user name.

Also because I know he'll get the least votes.

Other than him, Sephiroth. His introduction is a giant katana protruding from the back of the (ex) President of Shinra Inc. The creepy music abruptly stopping once you see the site was...the epitome of what JRPGs are all about, telling a story.

I thought that Kuja was introduced while Zidane and the party was watching Brahne and Beatrix talk in Burmecia. Kuja mentioned someting about ging to Cleyra I believe. Well out of the ones I've seen I would have to say probably Sin because the CG was amazing!

its been a while since i sat down and played an ff beside tactics, but i said sephiroth because the first time i remember his enterance was when shinra was full of dead bodies and blood on the walls and the president with a sword in his back. (i do believe this was his enterance..... well, except the promise scene with tifa, but im not sure if that came before or not)

Yeah, but technically its not an entrance, because you don't see him (and it was also Jenova anyway). But that's why I think many people like Sephiroth so much. He is a great villain because he is built up when he's not around. By the time of the Nibelheim flashback, you want to know so much more about the guy.

I went by the big entrance I actually remembered x) the more awesome one. If that had been the president's murder in FFVII I might have chosen Sephy, but unfortunately I can remember his entrance as being where you fight with him in the flashback and his power level is >9000, which I thought was a bit boring.

After everything I've heard about this "Kefka" person, I really want to play FFVI xD

Of the entrances that I've seen, I'd say Sin definitely. Tidus is all like WOOSH and goes for this really spectacular shot, then everything's like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH GIANT WHALE!

Edea was pretty neat, too.

Ouch!

Kuja's entrance was absolutely fantastic. It helps that the theme playing while he gives a brief luck of disgust at your fallen party, struggling to stand as the eternal rain pummels down is made of win and awesome.

I agree. But Ulti's introduction was in Timber's TV Station.

I would say Kuja too. Everything in that scene was perfect. The place where it happened(Burmecia gives a feel of destruction and death), the music playing(Kuja's theme is awesome), the FMV at the end(Kuja looking down at you, and flying away on his Silver Dragon).

In his first appearance, Kuja already gave that feel of power, elegance, and mystery, that make we all love him.

I pick Vayne Solidor, this guy first shows up in the game from the point of view of someone whose is on the verge of lossing conscience (however thats spelled), giving him an aura of mystery. Than we see him again during the his parade and speech, and he seems like a pretty good guy, only to do a switch around later.

Seriously. IIRC, the first time you see him is when you go to Freya's homeland and the party eavesdrops on him. Don't hold me to that, as it has been a very long time.

He certainly goes OUT with a bang, though.

The bit at the beginning, before the FMV also counts. But I still include the FMV as his entrance, as thats only when you get a good look at him, just as Disc 1 ends. Mind you, the bit before that FMV is good too:

Ultimecia, because she basically fooled people into thinking that it was Edea who did the dirty job in the first place. My second choice would be Kuja, of course.

Nice
10-13-2008, 04:05 PM
I will admit that Kuja had a cool entrance, but the whole time I was wondering if he was a chic or a drag queen. It was funny really.

Kefka's entrance was cool, in fact that whole part of the game was. "Son of a submariner."

But I've never been impressed by a villains entrance. In fact, the only entrances in a FF game I've ever liked were Shadow's in FFVI and Auron in FFX. But that's besides the point.

I can't really vote yet, since I don't know much about the following villains: Garland (is that the Origins?), Mateus, Zande, Zemus, Ex-Death, Kefka (haven't played through a lot of VI yet), Shadow Lord (I really don't know), Vayne (haven't gotten far in XII yet)

Ultimecia (using Edea's body at the moment) I don't think that counts. It's kinda like clone Sephiroth. The first time you meet Ultimecia at the end should be her sequence.

Kuja and Sin have both got interesting introductions (to me, anyway), but Sephiroth's first villainous act is to massacre a town, stare down Cloud (Zack, Cloud was on the ground), and walk away through a wall of flames. Where my allegiance lies, I shall not know until more info is assimilated.

Exdeath
10-15-2008, 10:07 PM
No love for Golbez? I know it wasn't his fault, but he kicked more arse than Zemus, IMHO. My thoughts otherwise are conflicting between myself and Kefka. Of course, one could say Kefka was a flamboyant Exdeath (There's no space, spell it right), only Kefka wasn't a tree.

The problem with VII & VIII is trying to figure out when the villains entrance is.

Sephiroth - does the flashback count, because he's not actually there. And if not, is his entrance when it's Jenova pretending to be him, or in the Northern Crater when he awakens?

Ultimecia - does her hiding in Edea's body count? When does she actually make an entrance? Is her entrance actually at the end of the game, when she says "SeeDs, SeeDs, SeeDs, kurse all SeeDs". Because then it's quite good. But does it count?

Sin's entrance is quite spectacular though. And fairly clear-cut when the entrance occurs.

Mercen-X
10-16-2008, 02:30 AM
A villain's entrance is the first appearance of said villain in a situation where the heroes realize said is a villain thus Sephiroth in the flashback is his entrance because Cloud realizes he is a villain (despite the fact that his memories are somewhat obscured).

I could swear the poll mentioned Ultimecia's entrance as being in possession of Edea (but I think otherwise personally).

Tossup between Kuja and Mateus.

With Kuja, you've just been handed your ass on a silver platter, your party is half dead and he just walks up, gives you this disdainful look, and turns away. His whole attitude in that scene conveys pure contempt. Then he goes and flies away on a freakin' dragon. That scene is made of win.

Mateus, when you first see him in Origins, is torching a city. (Then sending hellspawn and soldiers to pick off the survivors. Bastard.) He's perfectly calm, too, which just makes it just... unnerving. I mean, he's incinerating a city full of people, with no more thought than one would give to stepping on an insect. Kind of gives you an idea of his general opinion of humanity.

The Emperor of Palamecia: Hi, um, just to let you guys know... I own the world. Oh yeah, and I burnt your home city down. Your parents are probably dead and all... Yeeeeah. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting with the Kabuki fanclub at 3:00...

My favorite entrace is Exdeaths.

It begins with heroes finally getting to the Earth Crystal and it blows up which is not surprising and then starts this cool theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg_FiEr7knY) playing and Exdeath is finally revived. Only thing what makes his entrance a bit lame is that soon is unconscious thanks to one little thunder-magic by Krile.

I would have to say Kuja's.

The Music...
Well, all I can say is that it's great and it fits perfectly with the entire introduction scene for Kuja.

The Setting...
An ongoing torrential downpour as Kuja looks down on upon Zidane, Vivi and Freya as if they were nothing to him.

My Reaction...
Pure excellence. Everything put together gives the feeling that Kuja is an all-powerful villain. The best entrance I have seen for a villain.

Of course Kefka :D
I LOVE him when he appears and says "There's SAND on my boots", and "Edgar, you pinhead! Why do you have to live in the middle of nowhere?" (or something like this). And this is the first time you hear his main theme and his laugh XDD
Actually he can be seen during the prologue, while he leaves Vector, and then in Terra's short flashback, but I think the very first time he makes his entrance is at Figaro's castle.

Wolf Kanno
12-11-2008, 09:21 AM
Don't forget that Kefka's intro scene ends with him torching Figaro Castle and sending Magitech Armor to kick your ass...

I'm with Golbez being here, the guy is mentioned and built up long before you meet him. You watch him bomb Damcyan and when he finally shows up; he's brainwashed your best friend to fight and kill you, kicks your whole parties ass, steals the smurfing crystal you fought to protect and then takes your lover just to spite you (and keep Kain in line). Not to mention his theme is pure win.

Of the choices listed though... Kuja easily has the best entrance, especially since he delivers on the badass potential that scene invokes later on.

Kefka's made me laugh (if that counts as his entrance). Hilarity is greatness.

It was hard, though. A lot of FF villians have really good entrances. It's like their specialty. I really like Edea's/Ultimicia's, too. :) Her's is a close second.

Well, he wasn't actuall on-screen, and he's not even my favorite villan. But when Cloud woke up in that Shinra cell. and there were bloodstains on the wall, I was slightly afraid what was going to happen next. I imagined his massacring the Shinra employees and ending up in the president's office. If that doesn't count, then I like Sin's entrance. He just seems so ominous as he destroys the city of Zanarkand.
