The Platinum Edition DVD of Sleeping Beauty will be released next month!

Are any of you fans of Sleeping Beauty?

I will get it for my collection's sake, but I don't like Sleeping Beauty. This summer I watched it for the first time (basically), and I thought it was boring. I think its soundtrack isn't memorable/impressive/good; it irks me that "sleeping beauty" is sung again and again by a chorus throughout the movie. Also, if I'm not mistaken, some of the dialogue in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is reused in Sleeping Beauty, and one might say that Sleeping Beauty is nothing more than a bad rendition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. \(" 0 " /)

Aurora is cute, but she's absent during most of her movie and replaced by rabble.

I adore Sleeping Beauty. I love the music (being that its taken from the original ballet), the detail of the animation is awesome, and Maleficent is the coolest Disney villian ever. :) Walt Disney even refered to Sleeping Beauty as "his masterpiece".
I do own it on DVD, but will be buying the new edition..

Personally, while I enjoy it to some degree, it's not one of my favorites. It's rather bland and drags out a bit. But it does have a great villain.

Also, the arranged married couple finding and falling in love to fulfill their arranged marriage is a bit creepy.

As a kid I watched all of Disney's classics. We had like 50 video tapes with that stuff. xD

I like Robin hood better. :p It had an fox in it! xD

Or the Aristocats! :O Those were awsome. :p

Aah, that brings me back. I did enjoy them back then.

But even Cinderella was better than Sleeping beauty.

I liked it a lot. I remember being surprised a long time ago because Maleficent says the word "hell".

Mondachan, have you read the fairy tales of sleeping beauty and snow white?

Snow White had a sister Rose Red and they lived out in the forest and got attacked by creepy gnome-dudes and were saved by a prince in a bear-guise. That's pretty cool. Disney thing pales in comparison, but maybe I'm just biased because I hate her shirley temple voice in the movie xD

Sleeping beauty is pretty much about how the disney movie was portrayed! Plus the atmosphere is gooooooorgeous. It's got that macabre twist to it with the grey gloomy atmosphere, Malificent, etc~~~~ Plus Briar Rose is by and large a well-adjusted young female without being annoying like Belle ("books!? OH I LOVE BOOKS! I WOULD HAVE SEX WITH THEM IF I COULD"). She has a mischievous streak with those she's familiar with (the forest animals, flora fauna and merryweather)

anyways I just really like it because phillip's horse is funny and I love the outfit she wears as briar rose :D and because it's GREAT :D

Still, the best version of sleeping beauty is seen in Shrek. xD

I haven't!

I might like Sleeping Beauty, if Aurora sang more than one song and had a longer presence in the movie! Also, I like the evil queen more than Maleficent, but Maleficent is pretty cool. :kaohappy:

I hated the movie, but Maleficent is my favorite Disney villain hands-down. Then again, I did like most of the older villains. Gaston, Scar, Jafar... even the organ thing from the Beauty and the Beast Christmas movie was pretty cool... After that... it all went downhill....

I agree with Monda for the most part, but I still like Sleeping Beaty overall. The only Disney movies I have on DVD are The Little Mermaid 1 and 3, and Mulan 1 and 2, so my collection makes me sad right now.

Sleeping Beauty isn't one of those movies that was made to keep you engaged by constant going ons and lots of talking.
The movie has the feel as if you were watching a ballet which is really a good thing since the music comes from the ballet.
But that is another thing that could easily turn people off. Tchaikovsky AND Disney, that makes no sense! But it works out wonderful.

With that said, Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite disney movies and has been since I was a kid. I personally can't stand Snow White or Cinderella.

Oh come on, no one's even mentioned Pocahontas! I love that movie =)

Sleeping beauty was...eh. It was kinda boring, but I loved the music. I actually Like it better than Snow White.

I'd have to say the best of the best is Mulan. That girl kicks ass. After that though, Beauty and the Beast.

I loooove Sleeping Beauty, definitely my favourite Disney movie, although I'm not quite sure why. There is just something about it for me, perhaps because it was probably one of the first ones I saw. I still watch it all the time. =D

I would like to pick this up as well, since the copy I have is some fucked bootleg that a family friend gave to me when I was like 3 or 4. :P

Pocahontas was my favorite Disney film when I was a kid! I dressed up as her for Halloween! I didn't watch The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast until a few years ago; they're my favorite Disney films now.

The only reason I loved Sleep Beauty was because of Maleficient, she had such a great voice in the Brazilian version (as I was little I couldn't hear the original one I couldn't even read). If my dvd would work I'd buy it my videotapes are getting old :(

Is it okay to still cry over Disney movies even though I am not legally an adult? =( Pocahontas always gets me bawling by the end no matter what I do. And don't even get me started on The Fox and the Hound. I saw that once years ago and was so traumatized by it I have never been able to watch it again. :|

None of the Disney villains can make me go gay for it quite like Chernabog can lol wut kh?

I'll be buying it if it comes out cheap at Costco or Best Buy doesn't charge a stupid price on the DVD. You know, like anything more than $10.

Lion King is better, people. Get it in your heads. And Robin Hood has football in it. How do you not love these two movies?

A lot of Disney films make me cry; even Snow White's funeral makes me cry.

I can't watch The Fox and the Hound anymore.

Well the "animation" wouldn't be any different, it'd just be a clearer, sharper picture on an HD display.

Blu Ray really isn't any different in quality from a DVD 99% of the time if you're watching it on a standard definition display. But if you watch a DVD on an HD display that isn't tiny, it looks horrible.

My Platinum Edition DVD of The Little Mermaid looks pretty good on Jeremy's big, high-definiton TV, but the DVD of The Little Mermaid that I gave him when I bought my Platinum Edition doesn't look very good.

I've never been a big fan of Disney's old princess movies. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc.

Sleeping Beauty especially never interested me. I only watched the movie once or twice waaay back during my childhood.

I watched Cinderella like a trillion times though between ages 3 and 23. Hmm.

I like Sleeping Beauty. Although it's flawed, it definitely has many good sides. The animation is beautiful, and the backgrounds are stunning (almost to a fault; sometimes characters are lost in the lush backgrounds). George Bruns's adaptation of Tchaikovsky's ballet for the music is commendable in its complexity and works quite well (gotta love "Once Upon a Dream"). The film also offers us Maleficent, one of the most memorable Disney villains ever. I enjoy the Medieval feel of the story and although it focuses a lot on other characters than Aurora (thus leaving Aurora rather "flat"), it's nevertheless a compelling film which shows us what the beauty of animation can do. :)

Depending on the definition of 'classic', the answer is different. If we talk about the Disney animated canon (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ultimateclassics.htm) (which is often referred to as Disney Animated Classics and which so far consists of films from Snow White to Bolt), then Sleeping Beauty was preceded by Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons on Blu-Ray. But if you're referring to the "revered" status of a film from a Disney animated canon, then it could be argued that Sleeping Beauty is indeed the first Disney "classic" on Blu-Ray. ;)
