So lately I've been wondering, why are dogs so inferior to cats? Is it because they hump peoples' legs, poop wherever they want, and make a whole lot more noise than cats? Is it because they shed like absolute demons and slobber all over everything?

I think the answer is yes. What do you think?

Cats are superior to dogs because they are intelligent and not incredibly needy. They love and empathize with you if something is wrong but otherwise they ignore you unless it is time to eat. They also do not smell as bad and they do not slobber everywhere. Cats generally do not make a whole lot of noise either. Dogs are the opposite of everything I have described cats as being.

Also puppies are ugly and kittens are not.

A puppy bit my penis when I was little. I have not forgiven its species yet.

wow on the filter it is dumb

Dogs have this thing where they do more than just sleep all day and look at you like you're evil. That is why they are better than cats.

Although, rabbits are better than both. Furthermore, I want a pet duck. One of them white ones with the orange beaks. Imagine breaking into a house and having one of those things honking and biting at you. I'd clear out fast.

I was dog-sitting for my sister a number of weeks ago, and one of them would literally run up to me, lay on the ground, pee, then run away. She did this repeatedly throughout the week. A cat would never do that.

You know what's the worst feeling in the world? Having your cat scale you with it's claws just so it can reach your shoulders where it will clutch on (with claws) for dear life because it changed it's mind once it tore its way up your leg and torso and realized up here is scary and moving.

You can't do that! That's like playing a board game, then saying 'oh, you can't use dice by the way'.

I like both cats and dogs for different reasons. I find cats to be better for calm, cuddly moments, but dogs make better friends overall, since they're more fun to play with. Also, I like it when dogs can tell when you're sick or depressed, because they seem to be by your side much more often than usual to cheer you up. For example, normally our dog will lay down in the corner on his rug, but when you're sick and resting in bed or on the couch, he'll come in and lay down next to you on the floor. It's so sweet.

No.. they can't. Because

1. They get lost.

2. They get run over.

3. They poop everywhere they shouldn't

4. They herass people.

If cats arent smarter, they at least have more people skills.

And by these points I mean the avarage dog you can find anywhere. Cat's arent trained as some dogs, so it is extremly unuseful comparing the two.

Ok let's tally up the avarage dog and cat.

Can they clean themselves?

Cat? Yes
Dog? No

Can they walk themselves?

Cat? Yes
Dog? No

Can they "Do their business" without supervision?

Cat? Yes
Dog? No

Can they run away or get lost?

Cat? Only in new enviroment.
Dog? When untrained, yes.

Can they swim?

Cat? Yes
Dog? Yes

Do they herass people because of smells, look, etc?

Cat? No
Dog? Yes

Drool?

Cat? no
Dog? Yes

Eat Mice?

Cat? Yes
Dog? No

Eat everything else?

Cat? No
Dog? Yes

Drool?

Dog? No

Er, nothing, repeat, NOTHING to do with intelligence. That's like saying an ugly person's thick, for god's sake. And the drooling? Again, NOTHING TO DO WITH INTELLIGENCE. I drool sometimes, and so do many other people I know, and that doesn't make me or them STUPID.

Eat Mice?

Cat? Yes
Dog? No

Er, okay. :rolleyes2

1. A dog is a hell of a lot easier to train than a cat.

2. A dog has vastly better social skills than a cat. Dogs can do things based purely on a human's reaction. If you hide something that the dog wants somewhere and then stare hard and point, it can find it. A cat CANNOT.

3. A dog can help a blind person cross a road. Can a cat do that? I think not.

4. As for people who say "cats are too intelligent" to be trained? Um, no. They're often too STUPID to realise what you want them to do.

I removed those and gave you a link. I suggest you visit it.

Because you are being a bit ignorant.

It explains that Dogs have a different kind of intelligence.. You could say the more useful kind.

Why? Because cats don't care. If they are in a maze, they check every nook and cranny for food.

Cats only do things that fit their goals.

There is one report of a cat using a doormat as a doorbell. He picks it up and drops it, it makes noice, and someone comes to open the door.

That's intelligence, if I'm not mistaken.

If a cat was shown to help an old lady across the street it would only think: "Why? I don't need to do that for survival."

They're not social, like dogs. It's instinct, depending on cultures. Dogs for example live in packs, where they have to help each other.

I never said Dogs arent smart, but you seem to think Cats are stupid.

Im guessing you never had a cat, right?

I don't think they're stupid, I think they're STUPIDER than dogs. They obviously have a kind of intelligence; I just don't think it's on the same level that dogs have.

And actually, I've had two cats, and neither were as intelligent as the dog I have now. They were unable to be trained to do any tricks and one was actually stupid enough to forget how to walk through an open window.

And I posted that before I read your edited post. If not noticing a link is ignorant, then I'm sorry.

As for the doorbell thing, yes, that does show that the cat has intelligence but it doesn't show that that intelligence is higher than a dog's, which is what I thought we were arguing about. Dogs are able to do things on that level and higher.

I'm going to post one more quote to make my point, then I'm going to leave. You're giving me an headache.

Most dogs are very intelligent, which is obvious as they can easily be trained to do tricks, fetch sticks, etc. More specialised dogs can be trained to guide blind people or carry out other specialist tasks such as detecting explosives and illegal drugs. They are also good at mazes. A man called Pavlov experimented on dogs by ringing a bell each time he fed them. Eventually ringing the bell with no food present was enough to make them start salivating. 'Pavlov's Dogs' is a common saying.

Cats are good at judging people and have woken people up with an intruder in their home. Cats have alerted humans to everything from hidden explosives to gas leaks.

Different..

kinds..

of..

intelligence..

You can't compare apples to oranges. you can say Dogs are intelligent, you can say cats are, but you can't compare the two.

Because comparing would be done to our standards, and we are humans, not animals.

Again, no need to personally respond, cause I won't be reading it. If it's for general reading, knock yourself out.

so in a nearby city, about a year or two ago, a dog jumped into taylorsville dam during a flood to fetch a stick, & got carried off. the wife jumped in after it. she got carried off. then the husband jumped in after her. he got carried off. when the flood subsided, days later, they found the missing couple and pet down river on the bank, drowned.

true story.

Things you can do with your dogs that you can't (or most people don't) do with their cats:

Go for a walk/run
Go roller blading
Go hiking
Go to the park and run around and play fetch and frisbee
Go to the beach and frolic in the sand and water
Go to dog parks and hang out with other dogs and dog owners
Go swimming
Play in the snow
Wrestle
Use your dog as a seeing eye dog or to aid you with other disabilities

Cats are good for indoor cuddling and lazying around. But dogs are so much more fun activity wise. Plus you get to socialize with other dog owners if you go to meets and doggy play dates and stuff. Cats are such loners. And not that I'm terribly familiar, but are there cat parks and cat play dates?

I used to have a cat. And I loved her. Just not nearly as much as I love my doggies. I feel like dogs energize you and cats make you feel like taking a nap.

Basically, I like cats because they do whatever the hell they want, and I respect that.

In my opinion, dogs are so much better than cats.

I love dogs. :jess:

I don't know how anybody could say dogs are not intelligent, though. Look at police dogs, guide dogs and assistance dogs.

but I can't really have a dog because they shed so so so much and the dogs that don't irritate my allergies so much are really ugly.

pee. ess.

Any person who doesn't like dogs animals is not to be trusted.

also I like both cats and dogs, but dogs make much better companions imo. Also there can be bloody vicious and extremely intelligent/stupid animals of both kinds, so they're about equal in my book. A dog will love you more directly, but a puttycat will appreciate you over time as well.

You shouldn't need a dog to motivate you to exercise.

It's not about motivating you to exercise, it's the fact that doing outdoor activities with dogs is fun.

Ever.

I prefer dogs. I don't necessarily dislike cats, I just find dogs easier to get along with and more fun to play with. I enjoy walking dogs and playing with them. Though I do think that guinea pigs are pretty rockin'

I would like for a close friend who would live two to four blocks away from me to have a dog.

I would like to live with a cat, on the condition that I live in a house with a decently sized front and back yard (ie, New Zealand or America, not the UK).

Reasons the cat wins over? I don't want to have to clean up an animal's poop. I want the animal to be able to roam freely. I don't like loud barking. I want the animal to be able to sit still when it cuddles up to me, and be able to do so on my lap. I never want it to pee just because it's sooooooo happy to see me - I'd rather it just rub up against my leg, thanks.

However, I'd still like that friend with a dog because I would like to play fetch and all that sort of thing. I like taking dogs for walks on occasion, too. I just don't want to be obligated to take it for a walk.

I think i'm the best person to ask about this. I have 7 dogs and 6 cats. It use to be 7 cats :(

While my Australian Shepards are great for herding livestock the are very hyper. I'm not a kinda of person who runs around with my dogs  They like to play, well the younger one does more so. While they are cuddly and will protect me. I favor cats.

I'm a ranch kid but I hate going outside. The sun is trying to kill me I swear. My cats loves me ^_^ on head butts me all the time. They like attention when they want it but then leave me alone. I'm not trying to endanger myself all the time so I don't really need a dog to protect me. I love my cats! (http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/Lekana/boogie.jpg)

My cats are all cuddly when I want them to be and leave me alone otherwise.

Also another point, I shouldn't need dogs to socialize. It's called social skills! I don't need to use something to meet people. I can do it on my own.

Also another point, I shouldn't need dogs to socialize. It's called social skills! I don't need to use something to meet people. I can do it on my own.

That's like saying, "I don't need school or work or the internet to socialize!" "I don't need dance/book/cooking/yoga/etc classes to socialize!" "I don't need introductions by old friends to new people to socialize!" and so on and so forth.

My point wasn't that dogs are essential or somehow a crutch for making friends. Like a lot of socially related things in life, it's just another avenue you can take to meet like-minded people.

Well you need something to socialize! Unless you just stop random people on the street and talk at them.

Dogs are much better than cats because you can play with them and they won't scratch you/hiss at you/get squished and bleed to death. Dogs are also good to look at while I've never seen a cat I like aesthetically. (House cats that is)

haha, that's how I met one of my best friends too actually. We were walking in the same pace for quite a while. I normally hate people who walk in the same pace as me, but whatever.
