I made strawberry slush today, and it was yummy, but it wasn't sweet enough; I just blended some strawberries with some ice cubes and added sugar! What is my drink missing?

I love the strawberry slush drinks that are sold at Beard Papa's! I wish I knew how they're made!

Needs more strawberries, of course!
Maybe add bananas? XD

Try adding a bit of lime?

Y'know what I haven't had in years? A Cokeshake. Nothing complicated, it's just Coca-Cola in a glass, with vanilla ice cream added. It'll probably turn out to taste horrible, but I seem to remember it fondly as a kid.

If you are like me, you will find that cranberry juice fills in the gaps.

maybe you went too far in the sweetness and you should try going backwards. What's it like without extra sugar?

Trying adding banana flavor. I had a banana strawberry smoothie yesterday with Huxley and it was delicious. <3

Maybe I should add juice and more sugar. :kauberry:

I urge anyone who sees a Beard Papa's to go to it and purchase a strawberry smoothie; I think that's what the strawberry drink is called. It doesn't have a creamy texture, though; it's slushy. It's the best strawberry drink I've ever tasted!

There are cups displayed in the window of Beard Papa's at Victoria Gardens - advertising the smoothie flavors that are available - and the strawberry cup has pink paper strawberries attached to it. I wanted to steal it, but I didn't see a way to get behind the store counter without getting in trouble!

Tell me how the Beard Papa's strawberry drink is made, if you buy one!

I tasted my slush before I added sugar - it was less sweet!

You have earned a gold star in my book.
Though, I would make more strawberry smoothies/slushes if I didn't eat all of the strawberries beforehand. >_>

Unless strawberries are coated in chocolate or something, I can't eat them. If I eat plain strawberries, I look like Cinnamoroll:

Did you try freezing the strawberries? That way, you don't need to add as much ice and still get the slush texture and more of the strawberry taste.

ooo, I had a smoothie yesterday =D
It was really good.

I added frozen strawberries and frozen rasberries, and then some bananas, and a little bit of orange juice and milk.

Yummy!

Adding ice cubes made from juice would've probably made it taste a lot better.

Wait, why am I even encouraging this EoFF strawberry nonsense?

Oh yeah, yogurt or ice cream helps a TON with the sweetness, but then you have more of a smoothie than a slushee.

My strawberry drink recipes:

1:
Fill blender half-way with ice
Fill other half with frozen strawberries
Fill to tops of solid ingredients with cranberry juice
Blend
Squee

2:
Same as 1 but strawberry yogurt instead of cranberry juice

From Wikipedia:

In Ohio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio), the root beer floats are also referred to as a Boston cooler.

I've never heard anyone ask for or refer to a root beer float as a "Boston Cooler." Why must Wikipedia always lie to me? :(

nevermind

When we made those things in home ec I think we used strawberry concentrate and it made some good stuff. But maybe that was a smoothie. It was a long time ago.

hey those big time store places actually use lots of corn syrup and sugar and things from concentrate to add alot of flavor with a little product.
try this (stop me if i sound like a snob) take the amount of strawberries you want to use put in pot, sprinkle the top with sugar bring to a boil (berries have alot of water in them it will come out) then turned way down to a low heat for 3 min. cool that down then add that back to your blender with ice drizzle corn syrup over the ice and a pinch of salt (brings out sweet flavors as well as savory) then blend it up :D

Hey! I made more slush!

This slush was almost perfect, but it's a little too sweet.

Last night I froze about seven strawberries - like Miriel suggested - but I cut them and added sugar to them before I froze them. Today I put my strawberries in a blender and added five cubes of ice and a little lemon juice. Unfortunately, I freaked out when I saw how stiff my slush was after it was blended, and I added plain strawberries and extra lemon juice; I think shouldn't have. Next time I'll use only two cubes of ice.

My slush was yummy, though! I tried to drink it with a puffer face.

Are you proposing that we make a strawberry slush, then pour the parfait on top?

That would turn out to be rather interesting.

I'm not a huge fan of slushy things, but that LOOKS so good and pretty it would be hard to resist, as is anything strawberry flavored.

My boyfriend makes the absolute best smoothies/shakes/whatever, though. Oh my god. Frozen mixed berries, banana, honey, fruit juice. Num num num num num

Smoothies > Slushies! And you gotta add bananas. They cut down on the sweetness and are the ultimate combination with strawberries, just like chocolate and peanut butter and the Lone Ranger and Tonto.
