PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk
Group Says Move Would Help Humans, Cows

WATERBURY, Vt. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.

PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health.

"The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk."

"We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," said a spokesperson for Ben and Jerry's.

It doesn't hurt us, nor does it hurt the cows, if we drink cow milk, so what's the big deal?

Am I the only one that found the notion that ice cream should be made with human milk extremely disgusting? I wonder if it is because the concept is feasible in practice rather than saying something shocking like, "Oh, well, maybe you can eat steaks made from humans since you like meat so much," or something.

And PETA wonders why nobody takes them seriously.

Oh dear lol. Oh PETA, you could be fantastic and then you go and ruin it with things like this and people like that seal lady who got banned. Seriously, it's probably the biggest and most effective animal charity out there, but when they do stuff like this..? Own goals, anyone?

I'm pretty sure, in all practicality and setting the "wtf gross" factor aside, that human milk tastes bad, from what I've read and heard. Wouldn't make for good ice cream, and I sure loves me some Ben & Jerry's Chunky Munky.

B&J's is coming to my college tonight, actually! I wonder if they'll bring it up.

PETA is stupid and can go to hell. The cows NEED to be milked. Their udders would explode (or something equally gross) if people didn't milk them.

Ugh, PETA. They take a noble cause and piss all over it with idiotic actions.

Why didn't they suggest soy milk? I'm going to urge PETA to make their own human-made ice creams.

In spite my dislike of PETA, I am down with this. What's the big deal? The B&J spokesman says mother's milk is best saved for her child... yet it's fine to drink the milk created for the child of another species? IDGI

It doesn't hurt us, nor does it hurt the cows, if we drink cow milk, so what's the big deal?

The way many cows are treated on dairy farms does hurt them. It also hurts the environment to have so many damn cows around.

Well, if I have to pick between Ben and Jerry's delicious, magic ice-cream and ethical treatment of cows, I pick the former.

The ice cream is just too good.

im sure you would taste the difference. goats milk is very different from cows milk (same with the cheese). itll have a different taste, and the mentallity behind it would probably freak people out

Think about it boys. We would have to keep the women pregnant so they keep making breast milk.

I'm pretty sure women keep producing breast milk as long as they keep squirting it out.

Still, it'd be like... a woman farm.

Shlup

Yeah, once a woman starts makin' milk she can keep going until like menopause or something as long as she keeps milkin' the cans.

I wonder how that Swiss restaurant is doing?

Raebus
09-25-2008, 04:20 PM
Even if it doesn't taste different, once I know I'm drinking milk from a woman's breasts my first instinct would be to spit it out and go eat something that wasn't made from women's breast milk.

What about human adults consuming large quantities of dairy products from milk that was meant for a baby human?

I might have to start PETH if this happens...
