Nintendo just announced their new NINTENDO DSi!

During their Fall Press Conference today, Nintendo have - as expected - announced a new version of the Nintendo DS. Called the Nintendo DSi, it eschews the GBA slot (boo!) in favour of a slight downsizing (it's a little thinner) and a range of improvements. The handheld's screens have been enlarged, and will now be 17% bigger (at 3.25 inches) than those found on the DS Lite. As for the rumoured additions, both have proven to be correct, with "audio enhancements" made to the handheld, while it will also now include a 3 megapixel camera.

The DSi also features an SD memory card slot, making it possible to take pictures with the DSi and then view them on the Nintendo Wii. The DSi features a built-in browser, and it's possible to download games and keep them on the DSi.

For digital delivery purchases, there is a DSi Shop, from which users can download DSiWare from. Pricing categories for the DSiWare are: Free, 200 points, 500 points and "Premium" or 800 points. Customers will get 1000 free points to spend at the DSi Shop that are good until March 2010.

The DSi will be released in Japan, on November 1. It will retail for ¥18,900.

I wasn't going to buy one, but that's tempting. :P My husband has been wanting a DS, so I guess I can buy one of these for myself and give him my old one. xP

I'll wait for user reviews before I drop the money on it.

I don't think I'll get one because my DS works fine.
But then again:
The DSi features a built-in browser, and it's possible to download games and keep them on the DSi.
If you can get FF5 and 6 Advance I'll be likely to get it. FFTA, and FF1 and 2 DoS would be nice as well.

I'm really expecting that for the downloadable games, Nintendo will release a cartridge for other DS owners. I can't see it being a very succesful market otherwise. That's pretty much the sole appeal of the DSi for me and it's really not enough to make me give up my DS Lite.

^^^ This is also true. I wouldn't buy a DSi if I could download games to my current Lite. The other stuff is nice, but not enough for me to buy a whole new DS.

I'd like to have bigger screens, but other than that it's meh. I enjoy the chance to be able to play GBA games on my DS with all that extra brightness. If I ever buy one it will be to pair up with my current Lite, not to replace it. The chance to download games looks neat though.

Sounds too expensive for me.

Lack of GBA slot = fail. I won't be wasting my money on this unless my DS Lite breaks.

At first I was like, "Oh hey! Awesome!" but then I learned more about it and I was more like "Oh... hey... this sucks."

What sucks about it besides the lack of a GBA slot?

Would the SD card open up possibilities for homebrew applications, kind of like the Twilight Hack for the Wii?
