So Microsofts big bombshell announcement at TGS was that Tekken 6 is heading to the 360. Not very shocking seeing as several months ago a Namco representative said the platforms were undecided even though they have obviously announced it at a PS3 exclusive beforehand.

Now I could go on forever about how this is bad but I would just be regurgitating what I said when FFXIII was announced for the 360. Although It is a sad sight to see one of Sony's marque franchises go multiplatform. It was born on the Playstation and other than that god-awful Tekken game on the GBA, the series has remained loyal to Playstation. Just goes to show that any developer is a fiend for money.

But to be honest, none of the above bothers me as much as the fact that the game is coming out in the fall of 2009 in Japan. Hell, people were surprised that it didn't come out this year and now it may likely come out in 2010 in the west. Depressing to say the least.

I suppose this is nice for people who only own 360's, but I intend to get my hands on a PS3 as well in the near future and there's no way in hell I'd ever soil Tekken by playing it with a 360.

Sony were right when saying that third party exclusives are dead. If Tekken can go multi-platform then any third party game can. Sony do have the right idea by pushing all their first party projects which will always remain exclusive.

Still, not the end of the world. And to be honest, Tekken 6 on the 360 isn't such a megaton announcement that wins Microsoft the entire show. Sony are going to be bringing it in the next couple of days so it'll be interesting to see what they show.

It's not as though the 360 has a ton going on in the third party exclusive department either.

Honestly, I agree with Dreddz, third party exclusives are a dying breed in general and with the cost of developing for the 360 and PS3, I can't say I blame them. It's just smart business, but it makes first party titles a lot more important for a lot of gamers. I think that's part of why the 360 has never interested me that much. Microsoft has never exactly been known for first party titles with the exception of Halo (which I don't care for at all).

exclusives are far from dead. :p

Blue Dragon, Disgaea 3, No More Heroes, Ratchet and Clank, and quite a few other big named titles are all third Party Exclusives. :p

Sony only says that since they started loosing exclusive rights to several hot titles. I mean come on, they still have MGS 4, unless I missed teh cross platform announcment on that game. :p

Both Ratchet and Clank and Blue Dragon are second party games really as both Sony and Microsoft own the IP's. Neither Microsoft or Sony are in a terribly strong position right now. It may seem that Sony is getting it worse but that's only because they were in a better position before.

Yay :)

I'll get to play Tekken 6 now. I've played the previous Tekken games and no way do I think I'd soil the experience by playing it on the 360. =P

Well to be honest the 360 version is instantly inferior due to the d-pad. Although arcade sticks prevent that from being a problem.

I'd personally make the argument that Sony is in a slightly better position as far as exclusives, but mainly because Microsoft isn't exactly known for it's first and second party titles outside of Halo and Gear of War. It's all down to taste though of course.

I agree as well as far as exclusive games go now. But the reason it seems Sony are losing a lot is because they were the only company last generation that had worthwhile third party exclusives. What could Sony take from Microsoft that is third party? Very little.

YES!

Now I just have to keep an eye on Versus XIII, but I don't have much hope of that coming to the 360 as well >.>

...wow, I never in a million years thought I'd be an Xbox owner, but I think Tekken 6 will sell it for me.

I reckon since FFXIII has a 360 release date Versus XIII won't be far behind. So Tekken went multiplatform, it's not like it's the only game to do so I feel sorry for Sony in a way, sure they won the blu-ray v hd dvd war but they're losing the console war. I think it's just the ps3 is difficult to develop and it's sales are somewhat lacklustre compared to the figures the other manufacturers have put out mainly because it still costs too much compared to the other consoles even with being down £200 from original release price.

Fighting games fail on the 360 controller compared to the Dual Shock. Though if I planned to get T6, I'd have to get an arcade joypad regardless of whether its on PS3 or 360.

I'm still going to be playing T6 mostly at the arcades, but if I take the game as seriously as I took T5:DR or Soul Calibur 2, I'm gonna have to get the console to practice on. Combined with the FFXIII news, this may just be the decisive factor that inspires me to buy a 360.

Comparing it to FFXIII is a bit premature. It only has a Xbox 360 release date in the West where Microsoft is king. In Japan, (however) Sony still has the upper hand. Square Enix know it won't make money if they released it in Japan. As for profits, since most of their revenue is made on the back of a pinacle FF game, it makes perfect buisness sense not to specialise in a gaming enviroment which is split down the better.

However, the Blu-Ray battle will have bigger reprecussions down the line Iceglow. Blu-Ray is Sony's commodity, and if (by the next generation) we're still using disc format, Microsoft will be in Sony's pocket. Although some experts have argued the next development is in downloads, it goes against many people's complexes. People still trade music, but games?

As for the Tekken news, I couldn't care less. I love Tekken, but its not important. I got to play MGS4, and that makes me happy. :)

We're getting screwed over so hard this year... :(

Then again, I probably wouldn't be getting Tekken anyway, we still got valkyria chronicles, resistance 2, LBP and Socom coming out fairly soon. Not to mention killzone 2 and God of War down the line. Sony still looks better than Microsoft as far as exclusives go (third party and not). It's just really a shame that tradition-epitomizing, platform-defining software to sell its soul like that.

EDIT: Actually, socom's already out...
