This is the first I've heard of her. I probably wouldn't go looking for her music. Not saying she's bad, she sounded nice, it's just that's not the style of music I like.

I got a CD and listened once and though, 'Ok, that was kind of weird.'

A few months later I listened again. And again. And again.

There aren't words that describe how much this girl grows on you. She's spectacular.

Someone introduced her to me like....3 or 4 years ago. And yeah, I agree that she really does grow on you. I think I have all of her stuff, and I pretty much enjoy it all. She's so different from what I normally listen to, so every time I choose to it's always refreshing, and relaxing.

Of course, whenever I listen to her while other people are around I always get the WHOA WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GAY <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER VOICE HUR HUR. *Sigh*

Pretty much my favourite contemporary artist. (Bob Dylan doesn't count as contemporary, right? Right.)

Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful girl.

edit: something about her voice just weirds me out and amazes me at the same time.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I have both her albums, and she really is great. I think she has a gorgeous voice. I must listen to Ys again later today to remind myself how good it is. That bit in Only Skin where Bill Callahan's vocals join hers...

I've seen her at the Royal Albert Hall as well and that was really good.

I wouldn't buy it, but I'd keep it if I got it as a present.

She is really unique, and as other people have noted her voice totally grows on you. The first time I heard her I was like "what in die hyell?" But I was intrigued and had to listen again, and again, and the first song I heard was Sawdust and Diamonds which is such an epic song. Not many 4 minute songs can hold my interest, but Sawdust and Diamonds clocks in at over 9 minutes and I just HAVE to listen to the whole song every time.

I am hellishly jealous. I've been waiting for her to come to the east coast, but she isn't currently touring. Soooo I will wait ever so patiently.

Her voice is grating to my ears. The timbre in which she sings is simply too much for my ears. I literally cringed the first time she opened her mouth.

An hour or so is sufficient in this case. I may be masochistic, but simply not to this extent.

What songs were you listening to?

Ys is a solid album. Though one time I had it playing in my car and my friend said, "Holy crap, she sounds like Lisa Simpson".

Now I can't unhear it.

I too cringed the first time I heard her. It sounded so childish and unrefined, somehow. Still, it intrigued me, and after maybe a month I decided that I loved it to bits.

I have all her albums. It's good background music to relax too.

I just think she's an inspiration, and a refreshment. It is so good to know there are actual people still left out there you can call musical "artists." In the U.S. especially we are getting too used to Pop musicians who might be able to "sing" but they don't write their own music, or lyrics. Their records are like an assembly line product, and that is exactly how the majority of it sounds like as well. It is just so funny because nowadays we have a lot of artists that are just shoved into the alternative or folk category like Joanna Newsom...About 14 years ago, Bjork was just coming out solo, and she was considered pop music at the time. I think if she had just debuted now there would be no way in hell she would be considered Pop. I just get really irked by how close minded music is now, and I can't even listen to the radio anymore...

i havent listened to the physical radio in years (not an exaggeration), but i don't agree that nowadays music is cookie cutter. with the advent of myspace, all sorts of bands and individuals who both should and shouldn't be doing music have popped up. i think it depends where you look, but if you keep looking at the mainstream media you'll only see the mainstream media, and you'll feel bored.

edit: i lied that is an exaggeration. cbc radio 2 nightly concerts.

I dig her. I have both of her albums, and I think she's quite brilliant and unique. Love her voice as well!

I'd really like to one day see her live.
