First Day of Snow
Barrie, On, Canada
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Winter has always been synonamous with sleep. The world is muffled beneath a blanket of white. Outside is a still and cold silence broken by the warmth of lit houses where people cozy in with the people they care about. Hot chocolate, mittens, sweaters, rum cake and spiced egg nog. The year is being tucked into bed and its time to lay the past to rest. It's a period of grieving for the time lost, a period of reflection on the time had, and a period of gratitude for the time given. Life is always appreciated most during this season and I look forward to its awakening next spring.

S.A.D. FTW.

Snowed yesterday in Oro and Orillia too. Snow means easy hunting, ice fishing, skiing and snowmobiling...(ohmygod i've become a hick)

Also it means putting the snow tires on, though I doubt the ground will freeze before halloween.

I'd say something sappy by reminiscing about my first experience of snow in Canada but that's lame.

When I went to see Glaciers in Alberta there were lots of Asians from Asia. They acted like they had never seen snow before and then they saw the glaciers that their children would never see ever again.

Snowfall reminds me of those glaciers.

What scrumpleberry said, snow is rarer over here then a sunny summer.

Silly Canadians and your snow.

I've been in my first snow of the season already, but it was out in Montana. :p

Ohio weather is fucking crazy. It was 80 degrees last week. This week it has freezed everyday. It'll be hard to predict our first snowfall right now.

Norway hasn't had snow yet, which sucks because being cold is the only thing we're good at and now we don't even have that! :weep:

They have been getting some snowfall in hokkaido so aomori will probably be next. Right now Japan is pretty finicky about the weather. It started snowing here in misawa last year around thanks giving so I'm thinking it will be the same time this year. Can't wait to go snowboarding though.

How much did you guys get up there? I'm from K/W area, and I don't wanna hear snow in the forecast. But I'm also going to NorthBay in November and I wanna know what to expect =(

Ontario still beats BC, also although we've had an uncommonly wet year in Ontario, it's almost always rainier in BC and Newfoundland... well let's just say it's better to not live on the Atlantic...

It's only rainy on the east cost of Newfoundland. :P The weather is pretty nice here on the west coast.

Vancouver is disgusting in that fall, though. There are leaves everywhere and it looks very pretty, but then it rains for like three weeks straight and the leaves on the sidewalks turn to goo. Blech.

Speaking of the East Coast of Newfoundland....

We just had a wee bit of snow/sleet at lunchtime in St. John's. And we had a very small flurry a few weeks ago. At the time I was jogging in my shorts. Yay. Nothing that stayed however. It melted as soon as it hit the ground. Same with today.

We'll get a mix of sleet/snow and rain along with driving winds through until January. Good times. Then the real winter starts, with blizzards, blowing snow and freezing rain.

But that's life when you live on an Island in the middle of the North Atlantic.

It snowed here once when I was in 1st grade. It turned to water once it hit the ground though. But I swear it was frozen-ish on it's way down!

For the love of Pete, it hasn't snowed here in about 30 years and it would take one hell of a storm to do so.
I love Florida.

I can't wait for the snow. I've been kinda amped up for it since a couple months ago. But here in Indiana, you have no idea what you're going to get. Some Decembers don't really have much snowfall. Last year I saw someone mowing their yard on the first of December. I really like snow, but it ruined a trip I was going to take last year. Hopefully it stays out of the way this year!

It snowed a little where my mom works today. She works about 45 minutes north from here, though, when all I got was rain on my way to class.

What? You're in Germany? What part is it?

During the last years the first snow has come in February, and I know it won't snow much and it won't stay long. I miss real snow :(

Snow means cold, and cold means school closures. Unfortunately, I don't have any armor heavier than a simple jacket.

It snowed here today...I'm lying. :(

Hell, it's still sunny here and the highs get to 80 degrees. So I doubt it will snow at all, which it never does by the way.

Snow means cold, and cold means school closures. Unfortunately, I don't have any armor heavier than a simple jacket.

Do we even get closures now that we're in college?

I have a long knee-length jacket that keeps me comfortable in chilly weather and perfectly warm in temperatures below freezing. I love it. I just wish it didn't get covered with lint so easily... it's not waterproof either, so I need an umbrella on rainy days.

It snowed here this morning, then it got warmer, then cold again. It's really foggy outside now, and there's supposed to be more snow coming tonight and all through tomorrow. If it's foggy AND snowing, I refuse to leave. :p

Yes. Colleges will close for weather if it's bad enough. It isn't often that it happens though.
