Hey there!

My name is Gwawr, and I'm new to this forum malarky. I'm really into RP games, and I'm Welsh-speaking, so please excuse any awful spelling mistakes I make! Gwawr is in fact my real name - very Welsh indeed!

Other interests include playing the harp - very stereotypical - and cooking. Hope you'll all be nice to me!
Diolch,

Thanks!

My parents are very nationalist (is that the right word?) and went for really Welsh names. My two brothers are called Rhodri and Aled!

Hopefully I can help!

It's difficult to explain though. Touch the tip of your tongue just behind your front top teeth and force air out between the sides. Kinda!

I think I've been to Bangor.

Gwawr
10-28-2008, 07:29 PM
Yeah, it mostly is up here too, but for some reason in Bangor the version with an i on the end has caught on. Particularly in teenagers for some reason. Possibly a text-speak phenomenon?

I guess 'shwmae' is more gramatically correct. :)

Hello there :)
This thread has made me realise how very uncultured I am, I didn't even realise there was a Welsh language! Please don't murder me, I blame living in Australia :D

I could indeed put xox in my signiture, but it's just a habit I think!

My name? 'Goo-ah-oo-rr (rolled)'. Or something like that. I'm awful at explaining pronounciation!

And high-school was a long time ago for me, although I do teach harp in a high school. In answer to the 'where are you from' question, I'm from Bangor, North Wales.

Rantz
10-29-2008, 02:44 PM
You teach harp? That is so awesome.

Gwawr
10-29-2008, 02:53 PM
I know, I know. It's as stereotypical as you can get, but I've been a professional harpist for about 6-7 years now. I studied harp at the Royal College of Music, London, and now play at weddings, orchestral concerts and in various functions. Sadly, being a pro-musician doesn't pay brilliantly and I've had to substidise with teaching the thing.

Rantz

I really adore harp music.

Really? Which composers? I'm partial to a bit of Ravel myself. He wrote a beautiful piece for harp, viola and alto flute which I'm asked to play all the time.

I'm not so educated as to be able to give you names, except for that of Joanna Newsom, who is the only contemporary artist I know that plays harp. And totally awesome.
