I've kinda noticed that more and more games are popping up with God or some God-like being as the final boss or what have you. I don't mean people with a God complex or the person being worshiped in some crazy game verse religion. I mean picking the swords and storming heaven taking on the Big Guy. So I was wondering why? I'm not all religical or whatever, but what the fascination with taking on God?

Some examples:

Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 2, Xenosaga 3 (maybe I'm still confused on that one :p), Star Ocean 3 (Arguably), Shadow Hearts (maybe, again it was just a space critter that was worshiped)

Probably the whole 'by defeating God, you transcend God' mentality. :p

This has been going on forever. :P Even games like Breath of Fire were doing it. It's a pretty common RPG cliche, really.
