View Full Version : JPop
K, Nipponophiles here's your thread. :p
JPop.
I'm not a huge fan, but the very little I've heard, I've liked. My Japanese penpal sent me 3 CDs back when we were corresponding. One was Koda Kumi, and I forget what the other two were (though I remember something like M-Flow or something). I found my Koda Kumi CD today as I was packing, and I put it on my iPod. :D
K. JPop talk. Nao.

Rie Tanaka for the mothersmurfing win. 24 Wishes is such a good album. I could listen to it all day.
..then again, she's the only one I've heard a judge-able amount of music from. The rest of the JPop I like is just anime OPs and EDs that I've collected over time, but I enjoy them a lot.
Suggestions please.

Good luck getting 24 Wishes downloaded, if that's what you meant. The only good torrent I found lived up to 40% or so, then died for 2 weeks, then spiked up to 100%. If you want it, I can send it to you on MSN.

Ooh! Wasn't she the one who sang 'Action!' for CLAMP in Wonderland 2? I love that song!
Kumi Koda, Utada Hikaru, and Namie Amuro are my holy trinity when it comes to j-pop. I also like Ayumi Hamasaki. Look up Ai Ootsuka as well. BoA is great, though she's K-Pop, not J-Pop.
Kumi Koda's new song, TABOO, is so great. The video is so sexy!
Utada Hikaru and Ayumi are more electronic, and Kumi Koda is very club-ish, and Namie Amuro is hip-hop nowadays. Look up Suite Chic if you like Japanese Hip-Hop (hip-pop!)
My favorite songs from Kumi Koda are Taboo, Selfish, YOU, XXX (feat. SOULHEAD), Hot Stuff, and SHAKE IT. My favorite from Utada is Be My Last, Beautiful World, Keep Tryin', and basically anything from her last two albums.

JPop is like EuroPop only even more annoying. Or slightly less annoying. It's hard to say.

I've heard a couple of Ayumi Hamasaki songs. She's pretty good.
When it comes to artists I've only heard a couple of songs by, I really like Marble, Eri Kitamura, Shoko Nakagawa, Round Table, Rie Kugimiya, Last Alliance (well, they're more JRock), and Aki Misato.

Yep! She sings a lot of anime songs (especially songs by Youko Kanno); she's also a voice actress.

I only have about 100 songs on my mp3 player. I collect them by hearing an anime theme, liking it and getting it. Pretty much all are from anime so I'm not sure if it counts as a seperate type of JPop or not.
I love Wada Kouji and Psychic Lover.

Utada Hikaru = awesome.
Ai Otsuka = adorable.
Olivia Lufkin is pretty awesome too, way up there with Utada Hikaru, if you're into rock.
Koda Kumi, Ayumi Hamasaki, Hitomi and Riyu Kosaka are pretty cool too.

Lol, Momiji's all over this thread :)
Back in the day when I went to FCCC, I was always listening to Japan-a-Radio (http://www.japanaradio.com/index.php). I never had the spare hard drive space I needed to download everything that I liked, though :(
