Warner Bros should hire Paul Greengrass as the new director and they should beg the Nolan brothers to pen the script.

They should end the Nolan series but continue the franchise with another director going in another direction.

I think the biggest problem the Batman series has now is the usual tendency for third films in a series (especially when a 'comic-book' film) to stink - Spiderman 3, X-Men 3, Superman III, Batman Forever, Shrek the Third etc.

Paul Greengrass is a very good director, but they should try and hang on to Nolan.

I agree with Bunny. Another director should direct the next Batman film. Hopefully someone with a specific vision for a film like Guillermo Del Toro who could really shake up the franchise. Anyone else would just try to recreate what Nolan did and create a realistic crime film just because its what fans already know and want. Well I say SCREW THAT! They should make the next Batman film more whimsical like the Burton films as I always liked that approach. Just not go overboard like what Schumacher did.

I also want Nolan to go and do something else other than another Batman film. I've always preferred his other films more like Memento and The Prestige. Batman is better suited for a more fantasy setting. Nolan made a crime epic with Batman in it and in a way made the recent Batman films more silly than any of the previous ones because Batman is such an out of place character.

More realistic crime film style plz

I believe at one point last month or so, Nolan stated he wasn't sure if he was going to do another Batman film and would rather focus on more intimate, character-driven movies. The article went on to quote him saying that if he were to make another entry into the Batman franchise, it would be a couple of years.

There's NO GUARANTEE I repeat NO GUARANTEE that Nolan will come back.

Well, most of those can be attributed to changes in directors. If Nolan worked on the script for part 3 as he has previously, it probably wouldn't turn out to be a total <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> pile. But there's no explaining away Sam Raimi, really.

I actually like the Nolan films as I always felt that Batman was better suited as dark, gritty, and based in the realm of reality. I still consider The Dark Knight to be one of the greatest Batman films in the series if not one of the best films to come out in over a decade from Hollywood. Course if he chooses to move on, I can't think of a better way to go out.

As for Paul Greengrass, I cannot say I am really impressed with his previous works. He doesn't strike me as a man who knows Batman and what is expected with this modern mythos. I'm with a few that a new director with a new outlook on Batman could be good for the franchise. Personally I'm more concerned with the Spiderman franchise being fixed after the abysmal Spiderman 3...

If Nolan won't do another movie then I think they should just wait a few years and redo it again like they did this time.

They signed Christian Bale to a three-movie contract. Why couldn't they do the same with Nolan? And for that matter, every other non-expendable person involved?

I think it's easier to sign an actor to a three movie deal than a director. If Bale is signed on then there's no way in hell they aren't doing another one. I hope Nolan agrees to it.

Nolan's series is pretty popular and so there's a good chance he'll finish it off. Guess only time will tell. I think people are just afraid of a crappy third movie. O ye of little faith. If I remember correctly no one had faith in Heath as Joker. :p Look how that turned out. So i think we should keep our socks on and wait it out, it's not like there aren't sucky batman movies already. What's one more?

I guess my point is, DC can't fuck Batman up worse than George Clooney, Alicia Silverstone and Chris O' Donald did.

The Dark Knight is the second highest grossing film in US history. Second only to Titanic. It's approaching $1 Billion in worldwide ticket sales. There is no way in hell that the studio is going to replace Nolan. They will sit and wait until Nolan is good and ready to take on a 3rd film because when you have someone who can rake in that much box office gold, you do not replace that person. So they will sit and wait and eventually Nolan is gonna wanna finish up the trilogy. It might take a few years, but I really doubt that Nolan would turn away from it completely.

Is it possible that the sales are so high because of Heath dying and all just as the movie was being released and it being his last?

It's not really his last film. He has one more (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054606/) coming out.

It may have added something, but I think the big thing he contributed to the success of this movie was his performance, rather than his death. :P He deserves an Oscar.

OMG! Johnny Depp, Heath Ledger, Colin Farrell and Jude Law all in one!? I'll be watching for that one! :)

2/16/08. Star Pulse reports that Terry Gilliam has asked Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to pay tribute to Heath Ledger by taking turns playing his role in the scenes he did not finish filming. That means four different actors will be playing one part.

08/14/2008: At the time of his death, Heath Ledger had not revised his will to include his daughter Matilda. Celeb|bitchy reports that Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell all are donating their entire salaries for this movie to Matilda.

That is just amazingly touching. I will surely give this a watch. As for the Nolan series, I guess it all depends. I think Nolan's touch will be mimicked fairly easily. He did not seem to have a b-side nuance to him at all - something that is comparable to the Wachowski Brothers.

EDIT: Nolan will surely write a third. I hope he kills of Batman just end it on an epic tone. I wonder who will play robin *sigh*

The studio should wait for Nolan. He is more than just a director for this series. He is the one with the vision. They ended this movie they way they did for a reason and he had already been in talks with his team about where they would go in the third movie. It might be 3 or 4 years but I think everyone will wait.

You don't want to rush these things and come out with something that isn't what you wanted it to be.

Oh and bipper, Nolan has said in the past that Robin has no place in this universe =D

As for this other guy...I don't really know what he has done so I can't comment. I wouldn't mind Martin Campbell though if we have to choose a replacement. That guy has a good eye for action and building up a story.

But like I said, I don't think this can be done without Nolan.

Edit: Screw Greengrass. I just looked him up. I love the bourne movies but he has not done anything else that would make me think he can handle where this Batman series is going. The Bourne movies do not focus greatly on building up story but on a fast paced story and just trying to stay ahead of the bad guys. Batman is much more than that and the action sequences in Bourne would feel out of place in Batman. Plus he has Bourne 4 coming up so he is busy as well.

I think that's certainly part of it, doubly so because his role was iconic and his acting was legendary. (Notwithstanding that he will be appearing in one more movie.) But I don't know if that's the whole thing. Batman Begins was extremely well received as well, and made (IIRC) about $400mil. That's big money, not record-breaking, but big. Following it up with something as hyped as TDK was going to be a big deal anyway. Certainly the hype was added to by Ledger's death, but I don't know that it shifted things hugely.

I think Miriel's completely right. The execs know they're on to a good thing here, and Nolan can pretty much do anything he likes with a third Batman, because they're going to get retarded money either way. They can wait until, say, 2013 for that instead of 2010.

Other than Casino Royale what has he done that's especially good? I sometimes think that Casino Royale was a fluke on his behalf as I've hated all his other movies.

I thought both Zorro and Goldeneye were good as well. He has had some misses here and there but I think he has done really good when big franchise money and production is backing him and he shouldn't be that hard to get a hold of.

I have a feeling they will offer Nolan so much money and bahookie that he'll do it even if he doesn't want to.

If he doesn't, there are a lot of good directors. In all likelihood they'd get whoever can emulate his style the best.

Martin Campbell directed The Legend of Zorro which I consider to be the worst movie I have ever seen. I hope he stays far far away.
