Dissidia Costume Theory Thread

It's been said that there's four costumes for each character. It may not seem it, but that's a truly staggering amount, imo, considering many of the characters have one costume throughout their game of origin. Let's have some fun and guess what costumes each character will have, hm? Each character only gets one. *sigh*

Confirmed costumes are SeeD uniform for Squall, Luneth for OK, green-hair Terra, AC Cloud, shirtless Sephy, and red cape for Firion [no, I'm not joking] I have some ideas, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. I'll put all ideas and later confirmed costumes on this first post.

Ooh and he can dye his hair blond and run around doing nekked cartwheels while somehow covering his (apparently very small) manhood. And he can have problems with his girlfriend and fight with a sword for no good reason when it's obvious that a gun would be much better.

After watching the new TGS trailer, I will be very surprised if one of Bartz's costumes isn't Gilgamesh since Bartz seems to have a theme of using major sword weapons from the series as his play style.

After viewing the trailer and thinking about it. My theory is that every character will have one "color swap" outfit and the other two may be special costumes or even alternate characters.

I know a few are out there but I'm also basing it on what I see their play styles being since the outfits are purely visual and will not change their play styles. Zidane and Jecht are examples of what I mean...

Like that'd ever make it past the censors. And that would turn off a number of fanboys... and attract a number of other types of fanboys. O_o

i think some of the alternate costumes could possibly be other characters...but only certain ones, such as cloud and zack, or bartz and his alternates, however, i highly doubt that one of terra's alternate costumes is locke :p it's a completely different gender!

also, with the onion knight 'confirmations', they're not alternate cosutumes, and it's not Luneth, either, it LOOKS like luneth because it's the same class, but that form and another mage form (sage?) are part of the OK Ex thingy...i forget what it's called, but the overdrive...so i don't think that should be counted :)

EDIT: Amarant sucks, if there is an alternate character for Zidane, i hope to God it's not him....i want Vivi in this game, but he's hardly an appropriate costume change for Zidane :(

I think that since Squall is very well known for an FF character (as opposed to Bartz or Firion) people would feel estranged if he had a COMPLETELY different look. Bits of Amano's work were added into his design (the sash and poof around the waist, for instance)

It really does look stupid though. I think the mix between in-game and Amano art we're seeing right now is my favorite version of Bartz.

No, Dark Knight (Or Black Knight now that I think about it) was chosen cause he was Leon. Though come to think of it, Black Knight might be a better alternate costume choice for the Emperor Palamecian.

Added "More than likely" for the ones I think will probably (hence the P) be included in the game. That does not make them final, it's only what I think are the more likely ones.

Since in all the adaptions of FF1 Warrior/Knight Of Light always had a red armour its possible that he'll have a red alternate armour swap or just an alternate red pallette swap.

Btw... Confirmation on alternate pallete swaps for Onion Knight and Terra. Onion Knight has a Blue Armored design and Terra has a swap where she has green hair ;)

@Wolf That would be Luneth OK, which I already have listed as confirmed, and I'll put up Terra's now. I'll put FFIX Garland under theorydue to the fact that I really wanna see it.

Does it say anywhere that it's Luneth? I mean they look similar, but not more similar than the original OK was to Ingus. The four forms for the OK are obvious - the four colours of the Onion Knights in the original version, each looking a bit like one of the new characters. That means we'll get a green one (probably looking like Arc) and another red one (bearing the looks of Refia).

Yes. It is definitely Luneth. And if anything, Luneth should have had purple OK clothes, like his III DS model. He had blue, Ingus had red (which may be the reason for the blonde hair in the default Dissidia model), Arc had green and Refia had blue (more or less the color Dissidia Luneth has now)

also, what's on the opposite page on the latest photobucket image? i can't read japanese :p but it appears (from the pictures) that you can play a sample of all of the games the characters came from (minus XI and XII [if they include a character]), similar to what SSB: Brawl did...but that's just judging by the image, otherwise i have no idea (but the samples would be from random parts in the game...ie. in the picture of cloud, he has ultima weapon, so you might get to fight with that, or maybe it's the final battle of each game so you get to see the hero and the villain)

speaking of unknown characters, when are we going to find out all of the costume changes/secret ones(of which i suspect there's only one or two)? because it's out in japan and it never takes long for somebody to discover all of the secrets :rolleyes2

Ah, but you see, purple was not one of the original OK's colours. They had two reds, a blue one and a green one. Since the blue one is taken by Luneth, Refia has to have red.

Some of them are EX modes, the final costumes (where they are a pure color) are the random battle version you fight on the chess boards. I'm genuinely surprised by the costume designs especially since the Firion one was partly wrong. He turns into his actual Amano design. Same with good ole Bartz. Kawaii must be squeeling with glee. ;)

i don't think this is the correct thread to post in, but i have something to say about the actual gameplay of this game...

their moves seem very limited from what i have experienced (i have a japanese version of the game), i mean, Square and Circle are the only two attacking buttons (triangle allows you to run up walls and Cross is to jump), and the characters just seem to do the same two moves...i can't read any of the instructions or prompts or anything, but has anybody heard of some way to do combos or something?
another thing that annoys me is that i can't use firion's (frioniel...or something :p) sword...square is a bow-and-arrow attack and circle is magic...so can anybody help me out in the 'attacks' and 'combos' department?

also, i forgot to mention that some of the moves change depending on whether you're in the air or on the ground (eg. firion's 'thunder grapple'-type move on the ground (circle [brave attack]) turns into a projectile ice attack in the air (however, his bow-and-arrow attack remains the same both in the air and on the ground), so they do, in fact, have more than 2 moves, but this makes for a maximum of 3 or 4, unless i'm missing something

EDIT: I'm also happy that the random battles will be 'crystal' people instead of the real-looking ones :) thanks for that, wolf (the info, not the feature :tongue:)

It sounds like the Naruto fighting games for PS2. I would try different combinations of Circle and square with the d-pad. Try Up, up, square or forward, circle, circle. That or find the tutorial mode and play around.

the d-pad just changes the camera angle :( but i'll try with the analogue stick, i suppose...and i will try to find the tutorial, but i have no idea what any of the options say, so it will be a struggle :p

Are you low level? You unlock more moves as you increase in level and do some other stuff as well, I think.

oh cool...yes, i'm still level 1 :tongue: i'm not doing any of the story (until i get the english version), so i hope you can level up in the 'instant action'-type mode...even though i won't be playing much of that anyway (don't want to get sick of the game before the english release :p)

I am kind of suprised and dissapointed that they didn't use the unmasked Neo Exdeath in this game in one form or another. Aside from being rather muscular, he was quite handsome. And we all know how much that factor sells in this franchise...

Not true. In fact, as far as I could tell, his weapon didn't change in his costume switch. The Caladbolg is used for his EX Mode, while the Brotherhood is used otherwise.

The change in his costume is very subtle, and rather sad compared to what the other characters get, but it is there. His shoes are the most obvious change (going from blue to yellow), but the rest of his outfit changed as well. The colors of his first outfit are duller and more washed-out, while the colors of his secondary costume are much brighter primary colors. And the armor on his left elbow switches a little as well, though you don't get a great view of it.

The changes are there, but they are very minor. Tidus's outfit didn't get a lot of love.
