View Full Version : Purple vs. Violet

This thread is to debate the difference between purple and violet.

As a child, I thought that violet was invented only to confuse me. Those damned Crayola crayons had no purple, only violet. I remember complaining to my teacher that I had no purple. She told me to use violet, and I just thought, "but I wanna use purple. "

I've never referred to a purple color as "violet". "Violet" sounds pretentious and awkward. :mad2:

It also doesn't help that I'm colorblind. (Technically it's called color deficient, but everyone says "colorblind".) "Violet" and "purple" look exactly the same to me. And then I can get those confused with blue if I'm not careful, not to mention those silly colors like "blueviolet".

I'm sorry you can't differentiate between violet and purple. But the two are pretty distinct colors. Sorta like how pink and red are two separate colors.

I like violet better because it reminds me of flowers. And violence. :twak:

I think you’re on to something! This must be another one of those conspiracies headed by The Federal Reserve. But how can we fight them without becoming another body swept underneath a rug? We may need to consult The Ceej on this one.

To the Batmobile! and so on.

I always heard crayola invented the word purple. They are interchangable.

Lavender and lilac are the superior colors.

This is the only acceptable shade. I call it purple, EoFF calls it dark orchid.

It's a good thing I finished my drink a moment ago or it would have gone everywhere upon reading this.

That violet looks pink to me. But yes, I've noticed this before. Purple is one of my favorite colors and it makes me mad that there's no purple crayons! Screw violet!

A fair few tops of mine are this shade of purple I like this shade of purple, it's dark rich and makes me look sexy!

Yet whenever I wish to buy a purple longsleeve t-shirt or even a shirt, I end up with this colour which is even better, but it isn't as rich as purple can be but it has a certain charm to it and looks great when layed under another colour including dark purple.

I once had to wear a suit shirt that was this colour, surprisingly I didn't mind it looked really nice if a little metrosexual. It looked especially nice when worn with the sleeves rolled up over this colour longsleeve t-shirt

I would however never wear any top this shade of lavender. As a man I have my limits on these things.

Purple is a good colour, as are the other shades. I'm not picky when it comes to colours, they all have their uses somewhere!

Indigo wins both of them tbh. The lighter shades of purple seem sort of washed out to me. Rich purples are nice.
