This is a sad day for the internet.

Here's an excerpt:

Rick Astley recently sat down with us here at YouTube to discuss possible 'retirement' of his now internet-famous Never Gonna Give You Up music video. The video started the phenomenon known as the 'Rick Roll' where internet users would send their friends unspecified links leading to a video of young Rick dancing with a woman and crooning that he will never give you up. On April 1st we caused every featured video to link to Rick, effectively Rick Rolling nearly all of our users.

...

YT: So what you're saying is that you think the Rick Roll is over?

RA: Exactly. It's been really fun, and I even received the best act of all time award from MTV. But I think I've had my fun. Honestly, I'm a bit sick of it all.

YT: We still receive thousands of hits on your video everyday, there are still people who enjoy Rick Rolling their friends.

RA: Yes, but it's not fun for me anymore. I was a good sport in the beginning, but when you run into yourself online all the time, it eventually gets old. I think it's time to make way for a new phenomenon.

...

In short, after our conversation we have decided to honor Rick's wishes and have thus agreed to take down Rick's video. It's been fun, Mr. Astley!

You can see the whole interview and read the article here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu_moia-oVI).

This is a sad day for the internet indeed.:(

Did you ever get Rick Rolled? I got Rick Rolled so many times. It's such a catchy song too. I'm sad they took it down.

At least he was a good sport about it in the first place. So few people are with things like this. Much respect for him for having a good time with it for a while.

I don't think I have ever been rick rolled and I am sad to say I didn't even know what it was until early this year >.> I then looked for the song...then I saw the Obama Rick Roll XD They chopped up Obama videos to make it sound like he was singing the song...pure awesome on that one.

I rather like the rickroll fad - it's harmless, irreverent fun, unlike a lot of the crap that's popular on the internet. I'm glad it's still alive and well.

I remember the first time getting rick rolled. I was thinking for the longest time ever that the video wasn't relevant to the conversation and then halfway through I felt stupid because my friends had just talked about it a week earlier and hadn't remembered.

I never got rick rolled, most likely because my internet sucks and would never load the page even if I clicked on it :(

I always see what the URL comes up as before I click a link.

I've only been rick rolled a couple times but only in picture form. Which is more amusing actually.

If you want a video that is really annoying to link people to, try this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33DWqRyAAUw).
Just note that it is really loud, so click at your own risk. :p

Rick Astley himself RickRoll'd the Macy's Day Parade. Your argument is invalid. (http://digg.com/music/Macy_s_Thanksgiving_Day_Parade_Rick_Roll#) <-- This will be the one and only time I even RickRoll anyone. Enjoy it. And it doesn't even count, since I'm TELLING you it's a RickRoll.

I'm usually oblivious to all Internet fads. I only learned of this one because my mother was a Rick Roll victim, and she felt she had to inform me.

The idea is that people generally don't like 80s Love Songs, so when you're excited to see BRAND NEW ZELDA HACKS and get Mr. Astley, you're going to be disappointed.

For those of you who don't know "Rick Roll" is secretly linking someone to a video of an 80's song by "Rick" Astley called Never Gonna Give you Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTZ2xpQwpA) while making them think they are clicking on a link to something completely different.

there will always be someone who will never let it die. then it will be retro, and happen a lot, again. As far as the video goes, nothing ever is completely deleted, so....
