In other words, my laptop's smurfed.

If that's hard to read...

Memory address line failure at 00204040, read DFDF4FDF expecting DFDFDFDF
To resolve this issue, try to reseat the memory.
Decreasing available memory
The amount of system memory has changed.
If you did not change your memory...
To resolve this issue, try to reseat the memory.

What do I do? I've already tried reseating the memory, and nothing changed.

I really need a fix to this ASAP-- the 12-page report I typed last night that's due tomorrow is on my laptop!

Please help me, and fast! ;;

EDIT: After spending an hour with a tech support guy, it turns out that one of my memory sticks are fried. The other is fine, but I have to run on a pathetic 2GB of RAM until I get some replacements mailed to me. Please disregard this thread.

2 GB isn't pathetic unless you're trying to run Vista on top of that :D

You know I run Vista! :kaoupset:

I have, however, contemplated playing around with Ubuntu since it's free.

I already said what's up. One of my 2GB RAM sticks are fried.

Well, normally I have 4GB...

What OS are you running?

Vista 64bit. If I could have more RAM, I would, but my motherboard only supports up to 8GB. :( It's an incredible thing to have when rendering.

I remember my old computer had 16mb of ram, not enough to do anything good, it seemed like. But I was really impressed when I found out it had a whole gigabyte of harddrive space!

Looks like you better get to re-writing if you want to get that report in on time.

I already said earlier that the problem was solved. All I had to do is pop out one of my RAM sticks and I can use my computer normally, just a little slower. I turned my paper in last night via email and I got a reply from the professor that he got everything in time. :D

No. :D

I'd like to have a backup for my hard drive just in case, anyway.

I have probably 2 TB of memory in total.

I have 2.5 gigs of ram

My processor is what will probably not rank. Too bad I don't even know what it is any more.

If we're counting past computers, then I owned a Commodore 64 at one point (64KB of RAM for the win). :mwahaha:

Damnit, I can only boast 2MB of RAM for a past computer.

My parents old computer is the same model as mine but with 128MB. Could I take the 128MB out of that and stick it in my spare RAM slot? (the max this baby can hold is apparently 2GB) I've never heard of 384MB of RAM being used. Is such a thing possible? :D

as long as the ram is the same fit it should work! go for it

We had an oooold IBM when I was really young, I think it was an 8086. But apparently those had a whopping 256k of ram!

Yes, my sister's old P2 machine used to run on 384MB :p Though the Amstrad we used to have was 384KB :D

The first computer my family bought was an Apple IIe clone: Franklin Ace 2200

That thing was amazing and it played all of the cool Apple IIe games at the time. Plus it had the joystick! :D

The best part is that I think my parents still have it stored away in their house somewhere.

Holy crap, I think my late grandpa had one of those. I used to play bowling on it all the time when I was a kid. xD

Hard drive competition begin!

500GB for me right now. I'll have an extra 1TB after Christmas, not to mention an extra 4GB of RAM (8 total). When prices go down some more I may add another TB hard drive. I figure my case can hold six and my motherboard supports four so why not?

I wonder how much our tandy had. Or the TI 99 xD

8bit-Micro.com - Tandy 1000, Tandy 1000TX, TL, TL/2, EX, SX, HX (http://www.8bit-micro.com/tandypc.htm)
Looks like the tandy had 256KB

Memory: 16 KB video RAM (expandable to 192 KB with the use of YAMAHA V9938 - this was not a standard upgrade option but was a user-designed modification), 256 bytes CPU RAM (expandable to 40 KB+256 bytes without bank switching using a 32 KB memory expansion card and also an 8 KB "supercart" in the cartridge slot. However, the Supercart was a user-designed upgrade that had limited support and used the cartridge ROM space.) The 256 bytes was a fast "scratchpad RAM" intended for the TMS9900 to maintain register workspaces. The TI-99.
