So is Sora's original red shirt and shorts one piece of clothing? Thats what it looks like but its possible his belt just blocks where the shorts and shirt separate. Then again there dont seem to be any belt straps to hold the belt up and it may be purely decorative. I find it difficult to imagine the fate of the universe lies in a kid wearing a sleaveless knee high jumpsuit.

True but atleast they wore it for the occasion that they were saving the world. Sora wore his jumpsuit on an everyday basis. He even lies in his bed wearing it!
It's a clown suit made in order to scare his enemies! Since everyone is afraid of clowns...

It's why the keyblade chose him!
It's why the keyblade chose him!
But it chose Riku first... Sora's taste in clothing is more worthy of the Keyblade's presence than Riku's!
he's just a kid at heart. kids wear stupid clothes.

I think it was an attempt to make him look Disney-ish...

Not to mention he's an outcast to both of them.

I figured his logic was fairly straight forward. Manga sells in Japan, so he bases his designs off manga artists, throws in a few fetishes of his (dangly silver things and belts in illogical places, mostly) and voila, you have the next Cloud or Squall.
