yuffie and the wutai quest

if you dont get yuffie in the woods after the serpent marsh will the event on wutai still take place after you get cid?

As long as you have Yuffie in your party, the event will transpire. If you go to Wutai and have not gotten Yuffie in your party then the event will not happen.

Seriously, if I could acquire Leviathan without Yuffie I would. She's my least favorite character in VII so being forced to get her so I can get my favorite summon felt like a cheap shot. :(
