About the hat: the pom-pom is made of minky and attached to the hat with a little black wire; it stands up when the hat is worn! The rest of the hat is made with fleece.

In the original game, you can kill enemy ships for parts that they drop or find special ones in chests as as rewards for side-quests. To get to the menu, you have to go to the world selection screen, and find the option that lets you go to the Gummi Garage.

In the second, it works more or less the same, except that you can access the Garage before and after a mission. Follow the tutorials for instructions, or you can visit the stickied thread at the top of this here KH forum for an extremely unhelpful explanation of item details.

It's really just a modified Highwind/Excalibur.

I used to build gummi ships all the time in KH1. In KH2 I didn't feel inclined to do it, probably because the game had a lot of premade ships and I found the interface to be more complex in the sequel. I would do this, but my PS2 is dead.
