The North American DQV DS Site (http://na.square-enix.com/dq5/) is up and running now.

Ugh, why'd I do that? You guys are just going go on the site and steal my chance of winning the sweepstakes (hopes this convinces people to get the game).

So, anyone going to be buying it? Personally it's one of my favourite Dragon Quest games, especially with being able to capture and use monsters on your team. Why, I've actually use them in my team more than my wife and kids (as in the wife and kids you get in DQV). The DS release is also the first time DQV will be released outside of Japan.

I'm kind of curious as to what Debora is like (the new potential wife of DQV). Is she more of a magic caster or is she a dancer with skills that don't cost MP? Also, is she really as evil as she looks?

I loved DQIV, and this game has no shortage of fans singing me its praises. I'll get it the day it's released.

I hope the choice between potential spouses is less obvious than it was in the original. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints with the original game, but I'm sure the remake will be even better. If I ever get a DS I'll pick this up.

I definitely looking forward to this game. I'm loving the older 8 and 16 bit games being re-released/remade on portable systems.

I've only played 3, 8 and IVDS, but I frickin love DQ. Definitely getting it, free 2-day shipping from Gamestop upon release.

The first time I stopped playing DQ8 was because I think the fun waned on me after 60 hours, but once I discovered you can fight with monsters it totally drew me back in for a good 20 hours.

What's DQ V like? I hope it's a bit different than VIII.

You know, from the descriptions I kind of like Debohrah. A women who will talk down on me and treat me like a dog is both amusing and exciting. :jokey:

I so expected you to think that. :roll2

I've always ended up sticking with Bianca, even though I like Flora better appearance and personality wise. With Bianca being a childhood friend and all, it's not really much of a choice. Maybe I'll choose Flora on my first run through.

I guess it's okay to double post since the game is out now and it's kind of like a timely update.

Anyways, does anyone know how to get off of the boat at the start? I know it's a really dumb question, but I tried talking to everyone (including the captain, who was supposed to trigger the trip's end in the original) and I got all the items, yet the boat still doesn't dock after that.

I think you have to go back and talk to Papas again. I'm not sure, since I've long passed that part.

By the way, this game is awesome.

It's not working. He still says go off and enjoy yourself even after I've talked to everyone and got all the items on board.

Okay, I started a new file to figure it out. To trigger the scene where the ship makes port, you need to:
Talk to the guy in the cargo hold who remarks on how admirable it is for Papas to be raising you himself, and
Talk to Captain Blithe.
That's it. You can talk to them in either order, too. The scene will begin when you exit either the captain's cabin or the hold.

I'll start this one up as soon as I finish DQIV. I've played a translated version on emulator before but I could never get into it. The monster recruitment system didn't jive all that well with me.

I just picked this game up. I love games that give you choices that affect stuff. I just have no idea what to name him. Don't wanna name him Hero cause its cliche, or give him my name cause Brandon is a dumb name for a hero, and don't wanna name him Fate, cause that's my Megaten hero name. Hrmm...decisions.

EDIT: First impressions. Okay, I may have over done in the first (second?) dungeon. Remembering what a pain in the ass the first boss of VIII was, I grinded away until I had enough money to buy Copper Sword, Scale Shield, Thorn Whip, Another Scale Shield, and Leather Dress. So they're LV08 now and I'm getting ready to fight the ghost. I was gonna fight him earlier but he pushed me down a hole and left to save.

I am so stuck in the Devil's Tower (after a certain culmination of events in Gotha). :( I can't get past the fire-breathing dragon heads. A little help?

I actually found out the real reason I'm stuck: Square Enix anti-pirated the game so that you're stuck on the boat forever if you aren't playing an original copy of the game.

Thank you for trying to help me out Kishi. Though I guess I'll be sitting this one out, unfortunately. :(

Oh, yeah. I did hear about that, but I didn't consider that you'd have pirated it. Why don't you buy it?

There'll probably be a way around it soon enough. In fact... *googles*... yeah, it's out already.

On topic, I played a translated version for the old system already. I don't remember it too well but I don't remember hating it, and that's a good sign. I'll probably check it out.

I just beat it and I got this to say. This game is sexist.

Why can't the little girl be the legendary hero? It's all because the boy is a blue haired Goten isn't it? Or a super saiyan or normal haired depending on who you married.

Anyway if I go again, I'm probably going to marry Deborah. Just because I figure her dialog would funnier. Plus I feel kinda bad for her. She's just really shy. You know underneath all that *****iness. I mean she has like no friends and spends all her time in her room playing whack-a-mole.

Well, because...

I'm also quite stingy. It's also harder to keep track of so many DS cartridges. If I can't keep track of SNES cartridges, imagine how much harder it is with the tiny DS cartridges. :(

I'm guessing they also did that to Chrono Trigger DS since you get stuck forever during the warping scene...

Ah, I knew there must have been a reason behind her meanness.

I actually find that kind of cute, trying to act rough to cover up her shyness.

Well, I just got to the second continent. After taking about 3 hours to get over 400,000 tokens in the casino and buying my necessity weapons, I continued onward!

Congratulations, you have discovered tsundere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsundere).

Kinda funny that I finished DQ4 the day before this came out, and in that game you don't get the 'Zenithian Sword' until way late in the game (and then Guru unlocks its hidden potential even later). Then I just find it a few hours into DQ5. At least I don't have to go search for it later!

As far as progress, I just got Zoom.

3 possible wives.

3 game saves.

As far as progress, I'm just leaving Gotha to partake of the major mission presented to me there. Stuff happens pretty fast in this game, and I'm finding I don't really have to grind much. A couple of the monsters in my party I've had from the beginning. My Dracky has been a pretty excellent support character, especially once he learned Dazzleflash. Drain Magic is a pretty good skill to use against enemies with strong magic, like Mimics and their team-killing Thwack. Got a Slime Knight not too long ago and that gets all the hand-me-down weapons and armour after my Hero gets new stuff. Jailcat is pretty powerful, and my Chimaera is proving to be relatively useful. Thinking of trying a new team soon for some variety, I'm sure there are monsters who either get stronger or have other useful skills. I haven't actually recruited that much, maybe only 7 monsters total. I should look into that.
