So, it looks like this volcano will be blowing fairly soon. I keep seeing people on the news going to store preparing for the eruption, and I was wondering, what can you do in this situation? I would think that you get in your car and leave.

I know what to do in a tornado! Go to a room with no windows, preferably the basement and duck in the southwest corner.

So, I guess this thread is about what to do in emergencies and also to discuss this emergency in particular.

I would be too terrified to think straight if a Volcano was erupting near me. So yeah, I would probably die.

I have no idea what you'd do in a volcanic eruption. Live in a house of concrete?

Also, If I'm entirely honest, I read

"I know what to do in a tornado!"
as
"I know what to do with a tomato!"

...and was completely confused for a second there. I blame your stupid language.

Volcano? Ha. I bet I could beat lava in a boxing match. It would probably be by disqualification but that's okay.

Collect living things, valuables, get in the car and drive.

I'd build a fortress from a cardboard box and put on my colander helmet.

I would DESTROY any lava that got in my way... or the other way around, whatever.

Fight back with your Super Saiyan Ice powers, show the volcano who the boss is.

Will there be a pyroclastic flow?

Dig a large trench around your house and let the lava flow in then you would be the only person in the world with a LAVA MOAT!!! Hells yeah that would be pure awsomeness no one could get you.

A volcano is like, my worst nightmare. Nobody in my family can drive so if there was one around here we'd be pretty much screwed.

If there was a tornado I'd probably hide under the kitchen table. If we had an earthquake (a big one, not that pansy rumble we had last year) then I'd sit in a doorway, stick my head between my legs and kiss my ass goodbye.

The only thing I can remember is some elderly woman getting her legs roasted

Volcano? I got slightly injured the last time we had one of those. It wasn't that big, though.

Useful tips for volcano survival:
-Breathe through a wet cloth. It'll help to filter the ash.
-Leave the area. Goes without saying.
-If there're lava flows, depart in such a way that you're not going directly downhill from them.
-If there's a lahar danger, avoid rivers and valleys.
-If there's a likelihood of a pyroclastic flow, run as far and as fast as you can because you're probably smurfed.
-If you're using a car, bear in mind that volcanic ash will block the air filters, which is problematic for the passengers but especially risky for the engine.

Volcanoes are generally fairly survivable, as long as you listen to the experts and don't act like a complete idiot. The authorities generally know what they're talking about, so don't ignore official warnings out of some misguided wish to "adhere it to the man" as you kids say.
