Wow, that is insane. It's this part that makes me leery of the competition:

...with hundreds dropping out along the way due to exhaustion or injury - broken bones, dislocations, and over 600 cases of hypothermia.

Apparently you need to be trained to deal with ice water. So maybe that's why Mulley could not enter. :p
