I just beat the Floating Continent for the first time and have gotten Celes to Albrook, and... this game is f-cking amazing.
Kefka making Celes "prove" her loyalty by killing her friends, but instead stabbing Kefka. Then Kefka removing the sword from his chest and kiliing Gestahl and kicking him off the Floating Continent. Then the destruction of the world, and Celes waking up a year later. And finally, Celes jumping off the cliffs after Cid died, then waking up to find Locke's bandana.
Even though I knew about her little "scene" before you get to Albrook, I still cried as it happened. Just goes to show how awesome this game is. x3

Yeah, it certainly brought some emotion to me, unlike a certain character getting impaled in the next game. Meh.

They look similar. =/:laugh: At least when the Midgardsormr was impaled I felt bad. :(
hmm, everyone sites that scene as tear-jerking and all that. I've gotta say, I didn't really see much in it. But maybe that's because it took me three playthroughs to kill Cid. The scene that did get to me when I first played through was the Leo scene. Man, did that make me hate Kefka.

It took me a couple of playthroughs to realize that Celes was attempting suicide. I assumed she was cliff diving to pick her spirits up! xD

I always cried at this part. I mean COME ON, I WANTED TO DO THAT.
Yeah, VI is awesome, one scene that still haunts me to this day is when everyone is reunited in Thamasa, everyone starts laughing... and then you hear it.

I like how Cloud clearly does not have a torso in this picture. But you can see Tifa's ass clearly.

I just got the whole gang back together (including two new peeps, Gogo and Umaro) and am about to go into Kefka's tower.
Any tips for what equipment/levels/party members I should have/bring/be at?

Have you gone into the Forgotten City to get Odin and evolve it into Raiden?
Have you un-cursed the Cursed Shield?
Completed Cyan's sidequest and obtain all his sword skills?
Found Duncan's house with Sabin in your party?
Seen all of Shadow's dreams?
Met Gung-Ho and battle the Hidon in order to get Strago's most powerful Blue spell?
Reunited Gau with his Dad?
Checked the beach on the island Celes was at for a year?
As for advice for the final area, its another 3 party dungeon with several boss fights. If you have been slacking with some characters and playing favorites, I would level them up and teach them a few magic or gain them a couple more skills if you can.

I wouldn't bother evolving Odin into Raiden until after you've given your characters all the speed bonuses you want to give them, since Odin's the only way to do so. I found speed to be the most useful stat to raise to a certain extent as well, since by the time they're levelled high enough the others like strength and magic power become more or less superfluous anyway.

Dont forget to climb the magic tower for the gembox.
If your playing the GBA version then dont worry about not upgrading odin because Cactuar gives speed stats aswell.

however, before climbing the fanatics' tower make sure your characters' magic/ability to survive Ultima spells is good, because it's tough and MagiMaster casts Ultima when he dies :monster: Though the Moogle Charm will help you get up it, at least.

Life 3 (Reraise in the GBA) helps against Ultima as well as the Paladin Shield and Force Armor equips.

I always just used Quetzalli/Palidor. That way there was always the chance I would die and have to do it again. I live on the edge.

Life 3 only lasts a certain amount of time though, iirc, so if you take too long you're smurfed.

I do not recall this. Life 3 should last until you die.
Also equiping everyone with reflect rings or wall rings i think they mightve been called will make sure you dont actually recieve any damage until ultima. Though it does have the occaisional annoyance of healing the magimaster.

As far as I know, Reraise (Life 3) lasts until its used. Its usually the first thing I do for the battle against Kefka since he likes to spam Fallen One and follow it up with Goner. Oddly enough, the one time I didn't use it and died was when I learned that God Kefka actually does know Ultima :eep:
FMA also does good Genso Suikoden characters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUMeKolxvYQ&feature=related) as well

Family Friendly Nintendo: No, no, no! Celes wasn't committing suicide, it was a leap of faith!
...
That scene was awesome. The game is epic and with so many stand-out moments. Someone mentioned Cyan's family being killed, I kind of found it funny when his son just flops out of bed lol. What was very emotional though was when his family got on the Phantom train and he was running to try and stop them. Holy cow, what an emotional scene!

BEAT IT.
'Twas very spic. Probaby didn't need to get my characters up to level 50. All the bosses in Kefka's Tower were wimps.
The ending was awesome. I teared up when they played the main FF theme. I didn't think it was in there.
Now I'm sad cus... it's over. ;-; Although I still have to go beat the others. I got this game two years ago, and now I have beaten it. I guess I can still play the SNES version.

At least a month after beating the game and here I am relistening to old themes.
First of all, they sound WAY better on the SNES than on the GBA.
Second, there seems to be a unifying theme of rising out of the tragedy to find hope and to persevere and destroy evil, which is also the theme of the game.
Effing love it!

Wolfen, in your original post you talked about my favorite moment in FFVI (the Cid thing). Just noting that I am glad someone else liked it as much as me.
Hell, when I first played through that part, I couldn't touch the game for a couple of days because it was just too damn depressing.

I think my favorite part would have to be when Gau meets his dad...haha. But really, when you go back to Figaro with Sabin and Edgar in your party.
Classic
Another thing i wanted to mention is the ending. First off it's long, which is good....I hate when i beat a game and want to relish in my own victory only to have a minute ending for a game i just spent a lot of time to beat. 2nd it ties up loose ends...You know the 2 most important things. Locke almost assuredly ends up with Celes(unless Edgar pulls out some super-pimp moves) And you find out what happens to terra.
I like for my movies and games to have a lil' "Figure out the end for yourself...open to interpretation....." But this game needed solid anwers at the end and it delivered. Top 5 game of all time for sure.....
