So after seeing some rather clear evidence (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/misc_/SLES_02080_26022009_205125_0609.png)that Irvine isnt a SeeD (despite a few confusions (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/misc_/SLES_02080_26022009_203811_0343.png)) I'm begining to wonder why he isnt a SeeD. Ok so he probably wouldnt be a sharpshooter specialist but he has enough battle expertise to pass the SeeD test. But im not sure wether he is even a SeeD student and if he is not then what has he been doing since he left the orphanage? Maybe it's explained later and I forgot about it. Please illuminate me with an explanation or a theory.

(On a second topic i noticed in the scene when Squall is rushing the Sorceress after the assasination attempt he drives a car with the driver's seat on the left side (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/misc_/SLES_02080_27022009_105738_0968.png), However it can be seen by the buses in Deling that they drive on the left side of the road, rather fishy if you ask me [unless thats just how its done in Japan])

I'm guessing he's just still a student at the Garden when they meet him. His not being a SeeD could have to do with what he says in the clock tower during the assassination attempt: "I...I can't...I'm sorry, I can't do it. I always choke like this... I try to act all cool, joke around, but I just can't handle the pressure..."

In Japan, they drive on the left side, but steering wheels are on the right. It's possible that the car Squall is driving is an import, though.

It is said in the game that only students from Balamb garden become SeeD , and anyone who wants to become a SeeD must transfer to Balamb garden ( like Selphie ) .

The Student from Galbadia garden can enter the Galbadia army .

To do the exam, the student has to go to Balamb. As far as I can see, all SeeDs are based on Balamb, which is why you don't see any in Trabia or Galbadia.

But back to the topic, Irvine is obviously just a student who hasn't passed his exam yet. He obviously couldn't just be chilling there if he wasn't a student, but if he had graduated, he would either be at Balamb or in the Galbadia army.

They would need SeeDs for instructors, right?

I think Irvine was a student at Galbadia who hadnt yet passed when Squall and the team arrived, but he was sent with them because of his sharpshooting ability which must be rare in the world of FFVIII. After the shooting he just stuck with Squall and carried on from there:)
