I'm not exactly expecting a whole lot after Nintendo's E3 last year (though, from what I hear, Shaun White's snowboarding actually ended up pretty good...), but still, it seems like we should really have a thread for this. :p There have been some rumors running around of something great being announced, but bleh to the rumors.

I'm expecting Satoru Iwata to talk about the Wii Motion Plus a little bit, and perhaps show how some new games are going to use the new peripheral, and perhaps reveal a bit more about Wii Sports Resort. If that doesn't pop up, I'll be a bit surprised.http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/icons/sprite-spinchocobo.gif What about you guys?

Roto said something about how there's rumors they're going to be showing stuff off that reporters can't tape, or something, so hopefully it'll be something exciting.

Unfortunately I have class so I can't watch much, but the announcement of SDHC support is a pretty big deal. SD cards with hard drive-like capacity = very necessary. Hopefully they'll finally get around to their friggin' open card thing they talked about a while ago. After they announced it was coming, nothing else was heard about it.

edit: Looks like that was speculation on Kotaku's part; I haven't seen anything about SDHC on other blogs. But it is curious that the shop channel is down for maintenance today...

That reminds me of how they said that you could download DS demos from the Wii. After the announcement, nothing was heard for so long, and then they announced the Nintendo Channel. Hopefully, the open card thing won't be quite as delayed and disappointing as that was. :p Not that there's much room to mess this up, of course.

Edit:
McWhertor: Why did the Metal Gear Solid logo just run across the screen?
9:08
McWhertor: Is that just queue up for Kojima's talk tomorrow? Or does Nintendo have something else up its sleeve?
9:09
McWhertor: We're getting warmed up for Iwata's speech, with a little background info on the man behind the lectern
9:09
McWhertor: Here comes Iwata, looking dapper in a leather suit jacket
9:09
McWhertor: And no tie... this man is a rebel

This just in: Iwata = Rebel.

Keep in mind this is GDC. They won't announce anything huge. Nothing Mario related or anything along those lines. A new IP would be nice but thats expecting a little too much from Nintendo.

I hope I'm wrong of course.

I think you're right. But thankfully, Nintendo just announced something good:

McWhertor: Here comes Nintendo's Bill Trinen
9:50
McWhertor: "I'm very excited to come here this morning to show you..."
9:51
McWhertor: "...a menu."
9:51
McWhertor: This is Nintendo's Wii storage solution
9:51
McWhertor: The SD card is shown on the new Wii system menu 4.0
9:51
McWhertor: Leads to a new SD card screen, with 12 channels per screen, up to 20 screens
9:52
McWhertor: Doing the quick math, that's 240 games
9:52
McWhertor: "How can we store all this content in an SD card?"
9:52
McWhertor: With Wii system menu 4.0, Nintendo supports high capacity cards, up to 32 GB

It's not exactly a step ahead of the X-Box 360 and PS3, but rather something that's been needed for a while now on the Wii. I'm glad they finally decided to do this.

Edit: Some Final Fantasy stuff coming, too. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years and My Life as a Dark Lord for Wiiware. Final Fantasy titles will also be coming to the VC. And there's a weird thing for the DS called Moving Memo that I don't understand! D:

Edit: That update is out right now, by the way.

Edit 2: Ohay, new Zelda.

Edit 3: Oh. That's that. Well, that was neat, I guess.

Guess I was half wrong.

It wasn't huge or anything. I'm surprised that two of the things they announced in GDC (the new update to the firmware and the arcade games on the VC) are available today. Then again, that could've also been announced through the Nintendo channel. It doesn't seem like that channel is very popular. :p

The arcade games could be awesome if really unique titles are put up. I think there's too many home versions of similar games already out on VC that might hinder it. But heck yes to FF finally coming to VC.

I think the SD solution is pretty good. I don't think much that the Wii is doing will take more than 32gb, since there's no hard drive install options. It'd be nice if WiiWare sizes were upped to compensate, though (personally I see Animales de la Muerte doing better on WiiWare than standalone). I think it's still fair to say that this kind of stuff should've been day one, but I guess they're at least trying.

There's already an FF:CC game on VC, it looks boring but Misfit was addicted to it for about a week.

oh yeah ZELDA, MORE LIKE CELDA!

Well, I was referring to the announcement that the original series entries are coming to the VC, starting with FFI.

Since it's on the DS, I guess they had to make their own in-game hype train. :(

Will probably get the FFIV the after years, since it will now be available to us.

DSi has interested me from the start, though it's not a priority considering my DSLite works fine still.

The new Zelda could be interesting... not sure yet though. This is a trailer if anyone hasn't seen it and doesn't want to search through stuff: Nintendo World Report - News Article: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Trailer (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=18035)
